    He was not only my coach and mentor, but a great friend and helped me through a lot of my teenage struggles like a father. Out of all the locals (Fernando Sanchez, augie Sanchez, enlecio and Oscar Smith, James Crayton, eshea Smith, Aaron Steadman, and of course the slightly younger Floyd) it's really awesome to see that one of us went on to be one of the greatest ever. This pad work is designed to make floyd react faster to the opponent attack
    By giving him cues. His uncle a former champion himself dip his shoulder or turns his hip to cue up a specific punch and floyd simply goes in to his pre set sequence. It's simple and effective ways to train and translates masterful in to the ring. And it show his Uncle and father boxing IQ. Roger might be the polisher of the sword however floyd sr. Is the maker of it.

    • @mtotheg93
      @mtotheg93 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@rolandharris2706 It's an old question but if I may add my two cents. Mitt work in a boxing gym comes with vocal cues at the start. The basic standard from the orthodox stance being: 1 (jab), 2 (straight right), 3 (left hook). In the beginning your coach would yell something like "1-1-2" or "1-2-3". After a while you would add defensive maneuvers after each combination, e.g. after a 1-2-3, you would weave to your left whilst pivoting to the same direction with your back foot. Once you get used to it, you know that certain defensive moves "come naturally" or are intuitive after certain punches. Notice that Roger gives very little vocal cues, if at all. Floyd is working off of visual cues, and I assume the purpose of this is to drill into his brain an arrangement of offensive + defensive movements that will leave him in a relatively safe spot during a fight.

      Facts! Jr was blessed with incredible talent but the tutelage of his uncle and even his pops is what REALLY put Floyd at a master level... Of course Floyd's hard work and dedication was just important..... as pure boxing fan I felt Floyd made decisions to avoid the most challenging fights at least 3-4 times in his career.... from a business standpoint Floyd has been one of the smartest boxers / athletes ever.... he also is gifted and great... but as I said.... from a fan perspective I had my issues which mean NOTHING at the end of the day because it was his life and his career. But I respect Floyd and like millions of other people have been very entertained by Floyd and his pops and his Uncle Roger who let us know that most of us "Don't Know Shit About Boxing!" I loved how down for Floyd his Uncle Roger was that made him super dope to me.... Roger was like that uncle or OG that everybody from the hood can relate too... dude was just as REAL as they come! @Chancyvisuals I used to box for a good 8 years and i would love to coach now but because of work I dont really have the time actually become a coach. And my son been boxing for a year and seems to be loving it so on my free time I do mitts with him and some boxing drills. Im pretty good at doing mitt work. But I've always loved the Mayweather mittwork and would love to learn it
