  • Homage to great TH-camrs : 1musikpensionaer
    Zara Levina (1906-1976) (Ukraine)
Piano Concerto No. 1 (1945) *MUST HEAR*
    Pianiste : Leonid Brumberg
    Dir : Vladimir Kin
    1- Allegro (13.22)
    2- Andante (11.25)
    3- Allegro (10.25)
Nota : After having uploaded more than 500 videos, 1musikpensionaer suddently deleted one to one all his videos, without indicating the reason of this lamentable decision.
Created on 2011, July the 16th, by a great collector, « 1musikpensionaer »'s cultural musical channel, subtitled « Rare Historical Recordings », presents more than 450 works of romantic inspiration, mainly for piano and orchestra. All nationalities are represented, from the American Joseph Alfidi to the Russian Yuri Znatokov, from the English Arnold Bax to the German Julius Weismann. An important part of these works, which are summits of the modern romanticism, has been edited by some Russian labels or broadcasted on German radio. In this wonderful catalog of often rare works (in the case of famous works, the performance is rare), we especially recommend you :
    Adolf Wiklund's « Concert piece for piano and orchestra » (1902) and « Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor » (1907) ; Ricardo Villa's « Rapsodie Asturiana, for violin and orchestra » (1906) ; Théophile Ysaÿe's « Piano Concerto in E flat major » (1907) ; Riccardo Pick-Mangiagalli's « Sortilegi, for piano and orchestra » (1917) ; Mana-Zucca's « Piano Concerto No. 1 in E flat major » (1919) ; Hans Grimm's « Piano Concerto in D major » (c. 1920 ?) ; Henriëtte Bosmans' « Concertino for piano and orchestra » (1928) ; Joseph Marx's « Piano Concerto No. 2 "Castelli Romani" » (1930) ; Rio Gebhardt's « Concerto in E flat major for piano and jazz Band » (1932) ; Charles Wakefield Cadman's « Dark Dancers of the Mardi Gras, for piano and orchestra » (1933) ; Rudolf Kattnigg's « Piano Concerto » (1934) ; Janis Medins' « Piano Concerto in C sharp minor » (1934) ; Eduard Künneke's « Piano Concerto No. 1 in A flat major » (1935) ; Gerhardt Frommel's « Symphony No. 1 in E major » (1939) ; Evgeni Golubev's « Piano Concerto No. 1 in A minor » (1944) ; Theo Mackeben's « Piano Concerto in B flat minor » (1945) ; Don Gillis' « Symphony No. 5 ½ : A Symphony for Fun » (1946) ; Ennio Porrino's « Sonata drammatica for piano and orchestra in D minor » (1947) ; Sergei Barsukov's « Mediterranean Suite, for orchestra » (c. 1947) ; Gotfrid Gasanov's « Piano Concerto No. 1 in A minor » (1948) ; Tatarkhan Kokoiti's « "Azau", Piano Concerto Fantasy » (1950) ; Lucija Garuta's « Piano Concerto in F sharp minor » (1952) ; Lydia Auster's « Piano Concerto in G major » (1952) ; Hans-Georg Görner's « Piano Concerto in A minor » (1952) ; Yuri Znatokov's « Youth Piano Concerto in E minor » (1954) ; Voldemar Wal-berg's « Holiday in Paris, ballade for piano and orchestra » (1958) ; Nikolai Rakov's « Piano Concertos No. 1 » and « No. 2 » (1969) ; Anatoli Alexandrov's « Symphony-Concerto for piano and orchestra » (1974) ; Evgeni Svetlanov's « Piano Concerto » (1976).

This is truly great sweeping, passionate music that derives from Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev yet is very unique in scoring and pacing- would love to learn it myself!

Neo-romantic work very successful! This Russian composer who admired contemporary composers Rachmaninoff, Scriabine, Prokofiev is Jewish. Ok but what is the relationship with the music? Are we interested in the religion of Prokofief for example? This is personal and does not interest anyone.

I have to agree with the previous comments, this is a concerto of profound complex mixing of instruments and experimenting with the whole orchestra. Brilliant.

The place to start is your local orchestra. It's what I'm doing. At moment I have a list of 25 female composers I'd never heard played (after 70 years of attending performances) and twice that in fabulous works that need to be heard. I'm going to the director, or whoever creates the programs, to request exposure.

Huge muscular virile work. Prokofiev channeling, but WOW....the momentum never stops. Should be performed everywhere today!

Respect !

Thank you for that information. I'm sure that maintaining a busy You Tube account is a lot of work (and I'm very grateful to you for all the work you spend on yours), and I guess he simply got tired. It is a shame, though; he had posted some wonderful rarities. I will miss them.

Outstanding ! Prokofieff and Rachmaninoff would feel half moved, half outpassed. Brilliant! Imperative this is classified as masterpiece and played as such worldwide. Hallelluja, magna gaudio vobis - Habemus Genium !

I'm sorry, José, but your reaction far surpasses the merits and enjoyability of this piece, at least for me. It's quite excitable, passion-driven, but to mention it on the same page with Rachmaninoff when it employs such simple repetitions and sequences, well, sometimes it's boring, at others annoying. But this is, of course, a matter of taste. Not for me.

Btw, he is the greatest collector of Piano Concertos and has all the original LP, Tapes and CDs. A whole house full of recordings from the basement to the second floor.
I speak about original pressings, not mp3 from the Internet. His collection is quite astounding, but he gives away a lot of it- also to me- to just get new space.
