I'm sure that this has been mentioned before but it can't be a coincidence that Marilu played the auntie of the main character in the TV series"Unforgettable. Which is about a woman who can remember everything.
My best friend dated one of those people that has this in college. He saw her interviewed on TV and they asked her about a specific day... which happened to be when they were dating, and she got sad... Apparently he did something that hurt her feelings that day, and he could tell watching the interview that she was remembering it in vivid detail... I would never want that ability.
@@Rundrop I'm not at Marilu's level but I have a near eidetic memory myself. And you are absolutely right, the amount of times someone will recount something that happened that I also witnessed and get it so mixed up and wrong, it does get very frustrating. I get my own back though by reciting the dialogue of movies word for word just before the characters, that tends to annoy others a LOT.
It’s not a photographic memory. It’s a memory of her entire day- autobiographical. So she can’t look at a book at recite it immediately, but she can tell you what dress she wore 40 years ago and what day of the week she wore it.
@@twinsrock12I don’t have visual images or movies in fact she has HSAM. Highly Superior Autobiographical memory I actually have the opposite with no video replay at all which is called SDAM. Severely deficient type.
On August 16, 1977 I had finished my work day in a warehouse (a summer job) and I had just started my drive home. I wasn't five minutes into my drive and about to take the entrance ramp to the interstate when my car radio announced that Elvis Presley had died. Whatever else I did that day I don't remember!
It quite sad because if you search this up there is new evidence today these people have a weird obsession with dates and falsely remember things so much and then believe it is true. It is not a gift.
Damn..... I’ve always had a good memory, but damn..... I can’t touch this kind of memory. I remember certain moments in my life, but I absolutely do not know what happened directly before or after
She's not the only one, Piers. I, too, have an autobiographical memory. Everyone who knows me, has known this for years! I have always wondered how anyone could NOT know the exact date Elvis died. Or JFK, or RFK, or whomever. If you know which year you were born, you should also automatically know how old you would be in any given year, yet most people can't tell you off the top of their heads. I can.
Interesting. I can tell you the year a certain song was popular and I'm always right. I remember songs by where and what I was doing in life, but honestly as you age it lessons a bit.
He should ask her how the meal was at the restaurant, what the total bill was, etc. People never get granular enough lol. I know these people have limits, but it's fun finding what they DON'T remember.
I wonder what her death will be like will her whole life flash before her eyes, why should it she remembers everything, maybe she'll just black out lol
From the second he mentioned that date, I knew she was going to say something about Elvis. Piers is an idiot. All he had to do was research something statistical in her life that the average person wouldn't remember from a calendar perspective, and he could have gotten something way more impressive from her. Hey Piers! Do you remember where you were on November 22nd, 1963? You do! I'm amazed....not.
She has a condition called Hyperthymesia. I think I have a form of it as I remember events with vivid detail in my life as if they were yesterday, however, unlike Marilu or the people who have it, I cannot give you an exact date when many of these memories in my life has occured (at best, I can round it it down to the year an event occurred). For Marilu, it may be a superpower, but for me and others, it can be pretty crippling because we remember a lot of memories, good and bad. It's like popping a DVD to a certain scene and there is no stop button.
Same here. My long term memory is outstanding and something that I enjoy having and using. I recall years and events very easily from decades ago. But Marilu is on a level that I will never see. I envy it but it must be a blessing and a curse.
chess grandmasters have this also......................but mainly about chess.............they can remember every game they ever played and the games they read about in chess books.
I think I have just a little touch of this ?? I use certain "hooks" or touch points that trigger my memory. For me it's sports. I can use a game to remember the day the weather etc... I'm 51. But I can recall events around sports going back to 1980. For instance on March 7th 1986 was a Friday. I had a huge earache but went to school cause I had a basketball game that night. Now if I want to confirm that - I just go on the Internet and confirm March 7th was a Friday etc... Cause now with the Internet I can go back and back up my memory
I recall everything about my life as well, not specific dates tho, usually the season/time of year, and definitely key events by date…But if you recalled a story from the time I was 10 plus years, 40 years ago, and I was there, I’ll fill in all your gaps with details and stuff.. It’s kinda a disability recapping everything constantly. I didn’t realize how seriously rare this (mental?) condition was until I read up on it recently. I should get studied lol
It is like how we remember 911, what we were doing when we heard about the planes hitting. But for people with this mental condition, every day is a 911 for them to remember.
Geez! Of all the days he could have chosen, he picked the day Elvis passed away. I remember many details about my day on August 11, 2014, the day Robin Williams passed away, but I can't remember anything about August 18, 2014. She probably has an extraordinary memory, but that was a lousy test.
I remember significant dates to myself & the country, but I don't have her autobiographical memory. I know that March 15, 2003 fell on a Saturday, but I can't tell you anything specific about what I did that day.
Yeah that one is an easy one. Like John Lennon, I was at the swimming pool when the radio broke in for a breaking news segment. I was 11 years old and alone at the pool sitting on a bench eating my lunch...in Australia.
I think she organizes everything in her mind based on date. Most of us don't think about what date it is during the day. I think she makes a mental note of it and that's why she can recall those memories. It's the same thing as sometimes when you hear a certain song or smell something that links you back to an old memory that comes flooding back. She is using the dates to link back to her old memories. To do that, you have to probably be very conscious of what date it is every day that you live.
