    What you do with a jig is absolutely amazing! Congrats on that beautiful brown. So cool you got him in such tight conditions. Can’t wait to see what summer brings us🎣👍

      What I do with a jig comes from a lot of hours fishing rivers in all types of conditions. Eventually, you you figure a lot of things out!

      Right on. Thanks for watching. I thought I had a slim chance of landing this. Somehow the fish ended up in the net with my jig wrapped around a branch. It all happened fast but I'll take it!

    Honorable endeavor , many times can be accompanied by great challenge and hardship, and therefore must be overcome and enterprised with answerable courage....in this venerable arena, the angler's efforts here, witnessed in this setting, set him apart unassailably, as a " man among men"...we thank you...

      Right on. I did not like my chances once the net was caught on that branch. It felt like disaster could come at any moment during that short fight!

    Fished the Truckee River a lot when I went to UNR 50 years ago. Always fun to fish. My rivers are starting to run a little hot, but you can usually find a few right up against the bank. Nice brown. May have had a run in with a bird.

      I think it was an otter. It had long scratch marks on both sides of the fin that went half way down it's back into the middle and it looked like the fish wiggled free but the teeth caught that fin and tore off half of it. Of course, that is completely a wild guess based on what I was seeing! I am looking for fish on the sides but when that doesn't pan out I inevitably start firing my jig right into the center where the flow is raging. I plan to head down to the eastern sierra just to see what things look like. I have a feeling I might not even make it up to the lakes you can drive to above Bishop. If that's the case, hopefully the rivers aren't too bad.

    Just love your channel. Trout opener coming up. Have you ever fished the june lake opener ? Our family started fishing Back side of Grant lake in the 60's and camped rush creek until condos were built. Always caught monster browns where rush creek dumped into grant. 14lb'ers

      Sounds like good times. I think I have one video on my lakes and reservoirs fishing playlist where I fished June Lake in the Fall 4 years ago. I stopped to take a break and fish when I was driving from SoCal to move to Reno. I heard Grant Lake has some good fishing but I haven't hit it up yet. I'll get to it eventually. I was going to hit the Eastern Sierra the week right after the opener but I think I'm going to delay it for another week and try to head north before it gets scorching hot in the lower lands.

    I've been fishing the Eastern Sierras for my whole life primarily night crawlers and spinners. I'm interested in starting to use jigs like you do seems to work good for big fish. I was wondering what manufacturer and wait jigs you are using if I could get a pointer that would be great. You're videos and commentary are great keep it up.

      If you go to my fishing tips playlist I have a video detailing all of the jigs I have had success with since I first started using them a few years back. I mostly use 1/8oz marabou jigs and I tie them directly to my line for maximum control.

      I fish around there a fair amount. Most of my planning is last minute, mostly the night before I go. That's one reason I am usually alone unless I plan something out with my high school fishing buddies or my cousin. With that said, out of the hundreds of fishing videos across my channel playlists I'm only fishing with another human being in about ten of them!

    Thats why jig fishing or any other fishing can be frustrating. Thats why they say it's called fishing and not catching. But like you say keep comi g back & trying. Eastern Sierra's opener getting closer.

      Isn't that the truth! The thing that kills is when a nice fish swipes at it within my field of view and then just vanishes. You know it's there but it's done playing ball!

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I fished three times this week between Patreon and TH-cam and I only got one good fish each time out. It didn't seem like I was crushing anything anything until a fish was in the net! It was tough but it worked out every day this week! It was mostly a struggle! With that said, it's been a good few months for nice trout between the two platforms. My last few highlight clips can attest to that and I have enough quality fish from the past few weeks to use for the next one when I get around to making it.

    Brown trout are prize fish. Someone named Anita commented that they lean on the sweet side. May not match up with a rainbow or a brookie. Cooked over the coals make any trout a tasty treat. Invite me to your feast.😅😅

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I like rainbows, especially out of Lake Tahoe, but brookies caught out of a cold water reservoir are gold for eating. Browns are good too. I actually have a few cooking clips on my Variety, cool stuff, playlist but I am no master chef by any stretch of the imagination!

    Where would you say the best trout fishing spots closer to Sacramento are?

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Folsom Lake can be good when the water is cold and there are giant rainbows in Natoma, you just don't get many bites there. My favorite are to fish near Sac are the lakes in the crystal basin recreation area. Loon Lake, Icehouse, Union Valley all have good trout fishing. It get's especially good right around now when the snow really starts to melt. Upper silver creek up there is nice too. The problem with that area is they are repaving ice house road this year starting in May so you might be stuck for a half hour or more while you wait for them to let one side of the road pass at a time.

      Yeah, the last time I tried a few weeks back it was stained and the sides were flooded out in the section I was looking at. I already fished it a handful of times between Patreon and TH-cam this past Fall/Winter but there might be another trip or two left in me.

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have fished it a few times this past Winter/Fall between Patreon and TH-cam. I went to fish it a few weeks ago and where I was the river was stained and flooded out a bit on the sides making the fishing tougher than I cared to deal with. I'll probably take another shot at it before it gets too hot but I'm weary of it being a raging mess as a lot of the higher snow starts melting.

      I haven't but I run into them all of the time when I'm out fishing and I always enjoy chatting with them for a few minutes when I'm out and about shooting content. It's just easier for me to make content when I'm alone and the planning part is simple especially since I usually make the final decision on where I'm going the night before. So many viewers have asked to fish with me at this point I can't fish with one without making it a regular thing and with my job on top of all of this that's one more thing I'd have to worry about. I usually fish with old friends or my cousin and with that said, there's only a handful of videos out of hundreds where I'm fishing with anyone. As far as being a guide, I use a $30 fly rod, cheap reels, and typically only have 4 or 5 flies on me when I'm in the back country! There are way better guides out there than I could be. Besides, I feel like everyone is with me when I'm out making content anyway! I even talk like you are with me!

    You need to bring hedge clippers next time. That was a nice fish. And no more forehead hits.

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That spot on my forehead still hurts! That 1/8oz jig head was like getting whacked by a low velocity bullet it was whizzing through the air so fast. I sometimes have the clippers but I was dead set on skipping all of the stuff that was cut off by bushes. I should have known there was no way I was sticking to that!
