Thankyou for the opportunity to share some of our nation's history and let you know that no true Kiwi supports victory in the unprovoked attack on Ukraine.
We are a nation with a truly rich recent history of helping to rid the world of evil, not supporting it.
There are hundreds of cemetries where people who made the ultimate sacrifice with that objective lay buried.
We now have deep remorse and a special bond with Turkish descendants of the conflict. We also have a good relationship with the German people and others.
When the Russian people realise what is really going on, they will have to live with that truth about the horrors their great country inflicted upon their neighbouring brothers and sisters.
We who are British descendants here are trying to learn more about respect and help put things right in New Zealand even today- a long time after everything our people did to the innocent people of this land.
We are a peace loving country, mate. No one here appreciates your symbol of war and destruction against innocent people. Perhaps you could remove it as it has no relevance here.Tangata whenua are sharing their hearts, beauty and skill with us all with these waiata.
Instead of projecting disharmony, perhaps you could comment on the wonderful performance instead of ignoring it and using it as a platform for manifesting hatred. You could also research and be inspired by the bravery of the warriors who served in both World Wars. Many tipuna died for the peace and liberty we have here in Aotearoa. They were staunch and many were very young. Check out 'the Maori Battalian' for starters.
We love Russians and Ukrainians, not an oppressive leadership with the kind of propaganda you are caught up in.
I hope Kiwis will like my comment if they love all people and Peace.

I am pakeha. My children's grandmother & father are Maori. I took my daughter to kohanga in 1985. A member of parliament planned to come and visit our kohanga.
      So we learned 2 waiata.
It was great fun and I have awesome memories of the kohanga, kaiako, of Nan, and of the strong, strong energy of ❤️ love. I can remember one of the waiata very well.
Please, do it now! Broaden yourself, connect with your people, pick up a bit more of te reo and love your whole experience.
I try to learn new waita these days, but just really struggle to remember. Do it while you're young, Brother.
If anyone reading this can translate for me so I have a way of describing the strong energy of love.
We would walk in and the kaiako would be so full of energy and love, greeting Pepe with such enthusiasm.
When I looked after my baby granddaughter I secretly took her to a nearby Kohanga. All the little tamariki would run to the door to see her and stroke her head.
My people just don't greet people like that- as if they really really matter.

I know how you feel, Brother.
All my children and their other siblings, and all my grandchildren and their other siblings are all Maori (descendants). I am the only one who is not.
As a pakeha I have been truly inspired by the love, respect, whanaungatanga, stewardship, unity and strength of the Maori people. If I could become more like them I would be a better person. Taking a good look at my own culture important as I see the competitiveness and a lack of caring, but I am lucky to be enriched and to see such generosity, respect and welcoming from people who inherited a more kind and connected world view.
I have looked at many belief systems and I think te ao Maori is about the best. It is the connection to the land, rivers, oceans and all of nature, as well as to ancestors, family, elders and grandchildren, that help raise it up so high. It is deeply spiritual in every way.
I think the indigenous people from all over the world have similar connections, but they have been destroyed even more than ours.
Now that our planet is close to total destruction we need to reconnect in a similar way to the needs of mother Earth.

    0:42 1st Song(Waiata): E Te Hokowhitu Atu
    E te Hokowhitu-a-Tu
    Kia kaha ra
    Kati ra te hingahinga
    Ki raro ra
    Ma nga whakaaro
    Kei runga rawa
    Hei arahi ki te ara
    E tika ai
    Whirinaki, whirinaki
    Tatou katoa
    Kia kotahi ra
Nga marae e tu noa nei
Nga maunga e tu noa nei
    Aue ra e tama ma
    Te mamae te pouri nui
E patu nei i ahau ina
    Ngarimu aue
    Anei to iwi e
    E rurutu nei
    E te Hokowhitu-a-Tu …..
    Kia kotahi ra
    Translation:
    Oh brave band of Tu
    Be strong
    Do not let yourselves be
    struck down
    Let your thoughts be
    Always heavenwards
To guide you along the path
    That is the proper one
    We will depend
    Upon each other
    And remain united
    Lonely stand our marae
    Lonely stand our mountains
    Ah! Our sons
The pain and the deep sadness
    Beat within me so
    Ngarimu, loved one
    Here is your tribe
    Lamenting your death
Oh brave band of Tu ….
    And remain united

    5:09 4th song(waiata): E Noho Tuuheitia
    A Tihei Mauri Ora E!
E noho Tuuheitia te hiiri o Waikato
E huri too kanohi ki te hauaauru
Ngaa tai e ngunguru i waho o Te Aakau
    Auee hei auee
Too pikiitanga ko te ao o te rangi
    Too hekeetanga ko Karioi maunga
    Too hoenga waka ko Whaaingaroa
    Auee hei auee
Takahia atu raa te moana i Aotea
Kia whatiwhati koe i te hua o te miro
Te tihi o Moerangi, te puke okiokinga
    Auee hei auee
Piua oo mata ki Kaawhia moana
Ki Kaawhia kai ki Kaawhia tangata
Ko te kupu teenaa a oo tuupuna
    Auee hei auee,
E huri too kanohi ki Pirongia maunga
Ki te rohe pootae ki Arekahanara
Ko te haona kaha o te Rungarunga rawa
    Auee hei auee
Pakia oo ringa ki te Kauwhanganui
Te Paki o Matariki ngaa whakaoati
Ko Kemureti raa toona oko horoi
    Auee hei auee
E tuu too wae ki te kei o Tainui
Teenaa too hoe ko te Tekau-maa-rua
Ngaa tai e marino i waho o Kaarewa
    Auee hei auee
E hoe too waka ki Ngaaruawaahia
    Tuurangawaewae moo te ao katoa
    Te tongi whakamutunga a Matutaera
    Auee hei auee
Taairi te aroha ia, haa haa!
Toro mai oo ringa me aroha taaua
    Aue hii, aue. Haa.
    Auee Hei Auee!
    Tiihei Mauri Ora Hii!
    Translation:
Remain, Tūheitia, the shield of Waikato
Turn your face to the west,
to the waves that rumble beyond Te Akau,
    Auee, hei auee
Your climb is to the cloudy land in the sky,
your descent is to Mt. Karioi
Your boat trip is from Raglan harbour,
    Auee, hei auee!
Tread the shore at Aotea harbour,
that you may pluck the fruit of the miro
on the peak of Moerangi, the hilltop lookout,
    Auee, hei auee!
Cast your eyes upon Kawhia harbour,
upon Kawhia 'sea-food, upon Kawhia people
    of which your ancestors spoke,
    Auee, hei auee!
Turn your face towards Mount Pirongia
to the "top hat" boundary at Alexandra
the strong horn of the Most High
    Auee, hei auee!
Clap your hands for the Maori parliament,
its coat of arms, the oaths sworn there
    Cambridge was his wash tub
    Auee, hei auee!
Place your foot by the stern of Tainui,
your paddle is the Council of Twelve,
for the calm sea beyond Gannet Island
    Auee, hei auee!
    Paddle your canoe to Ngaruawahia
The foot stool for all of us,
The last remaining possession of King Tawhiao
    Auee, hei auee!
Love hangs over him, ha ha!
Reach out your arms and love us.
    Auee hei, auee. Haa!
    Auee Hei Auee!
    Tiihei Mauri Ora Hii!

    Uia mai koia,
    whakahuatia ake
Ko wai te whare nei e
    Ko Te Kani
Ko wai te tekoteko kei runga
    Ko Paikea Ko Paikea

    Translation:
    Ask and you will be told;
What is the name of this house?
    It is Te Kani
Who is the carved figure above?
It is Paikea! It is Paikea!
    Paikea emerges. Hey!
    A wizard emerges. Hey!
A deep-water prodigy is wading ashore. Hey!
    Paikea lands at Ahuahu. Slap!
    Your identity is entwined
    with Kahutia-te-rangi. Amazing!
You were intimate with the daughter
    of Te Whironui - really!-
    who settled at the Lake-of-woman’s-blood.

Sad though it was when I first started school,,any time we spoke our language,,it was beaten out of us,,so most of my, generation pretty much,, shunned our language,,to a point,,where most of those classed as Baby boomers,, can't speak Maori,, but a few of us,who still lived in the old village environment,,never lost it,,but we who still held onto it, only spoke it at home,or in the company of other's,,mainly from our tribe's, who could, and knew what we were saying,, otherwise,,it was, English,,Side story,, I was married to my wife, for 5yrs,, before she heard me speaking Maori,,even though she was, Maori herself,, none of her family,,spoke it,,the look on her face was,,WTH,,🤔😂
