Hey Luis, thanks for this awesome arrangement!
Quick question if you don't mind, do you record with a MIDI instrument like Garritan Piano or something? I'm just curious about how you deal with the slight delay when playing through a VST compared to playing the actual instrument.
Like, when I hit a note, I hear the piano right away but the VST is always a bit delayed. Did you just get used to that, or does your sound card/computer not produce any noticeable delay? Would love to know how you handle that! Thanks alot

      Hey, thank you!
I do use the Garritan CFX, but I don't record the MIDI through it. I find that delay quite distracting and I have not found a way to sync it.
So what I do is record the MIDI through SeeMusic with the laptop sound off so I don't hear it. I only hear my actual piano when I'm recording.
Then I export the MIDI, paste it on Waveform (you can skip a step by recording the MIDI directly on Waveform but I prefer SeeMusic) and add the Garritan plug in to the MIDI in there. Then I export the audio. Finally, I sync the audio with the video.
It's a bit of a long process. Let me know if something is not clear 👍🏼

Hey@@luisgraca , thank you so much for taking the time to explain everything... That clears things up perfectly.
So if I understand correctly, the Garritan CFX acts more like a final touch or enhancement layer for the recording, especially since the raw piano audio might not be ideal for social media. You rely on the sound from your actual piano while playing, and only use the Garritan sound for the final output you upload to TH-cam. (by using your recorded midi as input of your VSTinstrument )That totally makes sense!
I tried playing through a VST myself and found that slight delay super frustrating.... it’s definitely tough to perform well with it. I think your approach solves that issue by sticking with the live piano sound while recording, and then syncing it up later.
Thanks again for the breakdown, I really appreciate it

@@luisgraca Let me come back to you, my friend, with some very interesting news and something that can be really beneficial to you in case you want to record MIDI directly through a VST without any delay. Remember when we talked about this before? I had the exact same issue and was frustrated with the delay caused by VSTs. I always wondered why it happened, but it’s definitely solvable once you figure out the cause.
The issue is that any third-party VST you add to your DAW will eventually cause delay, especially with third-party limiters, compressors, etc. If you start with an empty session in your DAW and avoid adding any plugins (especially on Ableton, where even disabled VSTs still eat up resources and cause delay), you'll see a difference. For example, in Ableton, if you remove all third-party VSTs and just place your VST piano, connecting your keyboard directly to your computer, you shouldn’t experience any delay-assuming you're using a good soundcard, like a Focusrite, which helps minimize delay too.
I guarantee you, if you keep your session clean and avoid unnecessary plugins, the delay will disappear. You can even check how much delay each VST adds in your DAW, and you’ll see that it stacks up quickly. In my case, I found some delay coming from unused aux channels and plugins on my master channel. Even though they were disabled, as I told you, Ableton still eats up resources. Once I removed all unnecessary VSTs and kept only the VST piano and maybe some native DAW plugins (which generally don’t add delay), the issue was completely gone. ( I assume same issue happen with other DAWs. I dont know which DAW you use)
I don’t have any more delay now. I hope this helps you, my friend. You’ve helped the community a lot, so I wanted to share this with you. ( Now my piano and the sound from the VST are completely in sync and I can play and record through my VST directly. You too can.)
