Dreams are strange like that … sometimes there’s something terrifying but your not scared other times you wouldn’t be scared but are in the dream. It seems to be your brain seeing what gets a reaction and maybe forcing you into a fake reaction.
6:13 I noticed this, but If you cover the left half it looks like a guy threatening you, but if you cover the right half it looks like a super happy fella
My favorite creepy sketch I've made was just a woman turned upside down and standing on the ceiling in a hallway. Since at the time I was terrible at anatomy, she accidentally looked really tense and unnaturally posed.
Offsetting the face scientifically makes things more scary. It is an action all of us do subconsciously, usually when we are listening to someone. In other words, when we are focused on someone. Something that can be defined as “scary” like the things you draw here being focused on you tingles those little neutrones in your brain, Telling you to run. These things are so fun to analyse and use when you know a little about body language!
Hi I love my analog horror and these videos really help a lot on using procreate and the uncanny expressions and your videos have opened a lot of doors of new ideas and drawings thank you :) ❤❤
I’m a young teen artist who? Loves to draw on paper most of time and really appreciates how you discribe and teach how to really make things Uncanny. I also draw very upscure images and often draw things more humanoid with big claws & often with no eyes!
Seeing the process of a scary face also helps make it a bit less scary, I have an issue with pieces like these because they get me a lot, and I keep thinking about them in the dark... But like this it is a bit more grounded, thank you!
Some people call me crazy just because I like to draw something different from others And it is nice to see more people like me drawing uncanny or just unsettling drawings!
the thing you said about the cocked head made me think: a cocked head evokes a sort of gentle, animal curiosity, implying that as humanoid as this creature might look, it is decidedly _not._ being looked at straight on implies intelligence- and, maybe worse, fixation on You specifically. there are gears churning behind those eyes and you can't know what they're processing.
When it comes to uncanny human faces I like to think of corpses! It’s actually the theorized origin of the uncanny response, where it would dissuade ancient humans from getting sick by messing with corpses. Bloated, dilated eyes, slacked features, and sunken eyes are my personal go-tos.
I'm actually too scared to draw one of my OCs front view. He looks too psychotic in front view. It's as if I tried to fit the eyes of a wild animal on him.
What I really struggle with is that when I try drawing these kinds of creatures I can never tell if it’s scary I have seen so many horror movies and played so many horror games I have seen a lot of f***ed up sh*t so I can never tell if something I make is scary or nerve wracking. This was pretty helpful I will probably be using these techniques in the near future thanks for the help.
In my experience, using the mirror tool while drawing a face you want to look uncanny can help. There’s just something about a perfectly symmetrical face that feels off. Combine that with certain exaggerated facial features that are tweaked just enough to be off putting is something I love to do.
Dude thank you for being one of the first to watch! I think without a doubt you could achieve something equally creepy if not more so in your own way. It’s definitely all about practice and research!
I have a few of my own I made, and I used the default studio pen and turpentine from procreate! I’m glad you’ve taken to drawing creepy art, it’s a really fun style to play with
i think it would be very interesting to see your process of drawing on a canvas or paper since the materials are different! im still trying to find my footing in horror art and you are a wonderful role model :)
I have just stumbled upon your channel, and I must say it feels like the biggest discovery in a long time. Your art speaks to me a lot. It is very eloquent, striking, and the way it conveys raw emotion and a nightmarish sense of dread is just sublime. I first discovered the feeling of uncanniness some twenty-two years ago, when I first watched the Japanese movie Ju-On: The Grudge. I had never had been exposed to anything like that, and it certainly crawled under my skin and remained there for a few days - and their restless nights. What terrified me the most about that movie was the complete inability to find an answer to the question: why? Why does Kayako - the female ghost - behave like that? Why does she move, stare, like that? What is she thinking? Does she think at all, or feel for that matter? Or is she completely dead, dead beyond death, if that makes any sense? Or just empty and irrational, like someone afflicted by some extreme and inhuman mental ailment? To be honest, the fact that she killed everyone who unknowingly crossed her way was not even that horrifying compared to her mere presence and… well, uncanniness. I got really obsessed with that movie and that character, and I recognise many common traits between your art and J-Horror, even if I don’t know if that’s your intention at all: stark black and white contrast, gaping mouths into the abyss of empty souls, and absolutely crazy and terrifying eyes. It brings so many memories, and you have become an instant favourite of mine. Sorry if I don’t make a lot of sense, since I’m writing this comment after a long night of work - and I don’t even know if you’ll ever read it - but I just want you to know I really appreciate what you do, and the very didactic approach to your videos. Absolutely stunning work!
I'm a very, very amateur horror drawer, I draw a gorey and creepy kinda of horror (like a man looking at you with a very opened face with his flesh showing up and his skin falling while he touches someones shoulder and the person doesn't have a head), but idk, there is something missing, and idk what, idk if it's the shadow or the quality, so if you can do a video of the uncanny proportions, I would be thankful
Man, i really love your work, you're one of my favorites artists and i inspire my artworks on your drawings (Sorry about my bad english i'm fro Brazil)
Uncanny is one of those horror genres (?) that I like a lot but don't really know how to put it into practice. This is fantastic, definitely helps work out the kinks in how the uncanny valley effect is done! Horror art in general I'm pretty good at, but its that uncanny effect that I lack
There was that one, singular scene in Attack on Titan, where they were trapped in a tower and getting besieged by titans and Reiner opened a door into darkness and a titan face appeared, which was the scariest most uncanny face I have seen in all of AoT and is definitely in top 5 of the scariest anime faces (without counting Junji Ito creations)
i believe i had a nightmare once as a kid about some mechanical, industrial looking worm that would "swallow" someone into a tube, filled with angled crushers and saws, bent at odd angles to mulch someone up to use for fuel, and i think you could make a really interesting looking drawing for you, maybe with some blood seeping out from the hinges too, reminiscent of its last "meal".
So I currently dont have access to digital art, but I was curious if you could do something utilizing only pencil or pen and ink? Im inspired a lot by your style but I feel like its hard to translate in that medium
Personally i think making that face happier would make it uncanny. Just imagine some random stranger (who on top of being a stranger does not even look right) just being super happy to see you. As if that random person you do not know has been waiting for you for years.
once I saw a man like this but his bottom lip was more like this: } he slowly kept opening his mouth in my doorway.then 5 worms that slowly ate away at me came out of his eyes and mouth.it was horrorific.this was all a dream but the hall he was creeping out from was a exact copy of my hallway.then I saw a symbol.I don’t know what symbol I just know there was one
I love your videos I have been watching a few people on youtube lately because I have had a lot of issues over the last 15 years and over the last 6 months I don't really know why but I started wanting to kill myself and see things and I tried to kill myself 5 times and the Police made me go to a hospital for a bit to speak to people and I wouldn't talk to anyone but one of the Nurses was so cool and she was talking to me about stuff and my Cat and she asked me what I like ect and I told her when my cutting gets really bad I try to write things on paper and have lots of sheets of just weird writing and she asked me to try drawing and she actually gave me a pad and a few pencils and I got out of the hospital and started drawing demon faces and putting them all over my walls and then found it was helping if I felt sad I would draw a demons face that was sad or angry or however I was feeling and then started buying over the last 3 months pads and charcoal and pencils and now recently really been enjoying fine liner ink art and scribble style very aggressive because some of my favourite drawings are the ones I have done something and hated it so just messed around with the drawing in an unnatural way and it's turned into something I actually like so I started using pen because I can't make mistakes I just keep going until I find what I am feeling and I love drawing demons or stuff like you and it actually helps me not want to cut because I calm down when I do it and I posted a lot on my youtube community page if you can tell me what to do to get better and a couple of recent videos and the Police lade came to my house because they had to do checks and my wrists were cut open and she asked me to draw her something to calm down and it's one of my fav drawings I wasn't even thinking and I just aggressively attacked the pad with a charcoal pencil and drew a parrots face then did a pentagon and then the shadow behind the pentagon of the parrot but the parrots face at the front is normal and the one behind is sad and depressed then I wiped my blood all over it and it is a bit weird I know but it's actually one of my favourite things I have done, I will post that one again just now so you can see it.
I had a dream about a giant sunfish in the sky once. It doesn’t sound very scary, but it would be pretty terrifying irl.
I hate sunfish so that sounds terrifying to me!
@@pitchcanker why the unnecessary hate man 😭

Im a horror artist too, its rare to find proper horror artists beyond a speedpaint. Im inspired.
I almost went the speed paint route, but I’m happy I’ve been explaining the process more! Thank you for watching

Low key the perfect place for a jump scare- thanks so much for watching dude!
Did it scare the shit out of you?
You should make more of these "uncanny aspects" videos, really good work
I might make it a mini series! It’s been fun so far
I love spooky scary, and creepy looking caricatures. Need more content like this on youtube
I’m trying to fill that void! I’m always looking for scary art content but can’t find a lot
