Are the Best BORDEAUX BLENDS Actually Made in Bordeaux? (Wine Blind Tasting)

  • Now this was an amazing wine blind tasting! In blind tasted 6 Bordeaux blends from all around the world, including Bordeaux region itself, to determine where the best blend can be found. I tried to assess which one is which and see how different terroir and winemaking can influence the final wine. Check out how I managed this task.
    The wines I tasted in the video were kindly provided by 8Wines. Be sure to check out their wine web shop 8wines.com/. They have an amazing selection of wines, which they deliver to all of Europe, including UK!

    A fun & interesting video, thank you Agnes. I did guess most of them correctly, though I couldn't figure out the South African one. Bordeaux blends are enjoyable whenever you are in the wine world. I think it could be interesting to do a Bordeaux blend tasting with wines from Eastern Europe and the Near/Middle East. As they wines show their terroir quite well and the indigenous cultivars add a fun twist to the blends.

    • @NoSediment

      Well, for me the most confusing was and still is the New Zealand one. I kept re-tasting it over several days and make a profile of that wine in my head, so I know the next time I am blind tasting! 😅 unfortunately, I myself am not as familiar with Eastern European wines in general, therefore, I would be struggling more. 😉

    Isn’t the El Enemigo that got 100p (from both Robert P and James S) the ”GRAN ENEMIGO "GUALTALLARY" 2019”, which is a vineyard specific 85% Cab Franc, 15% Malbec. While the ”GRAN ENEMIGO 2018” is 50% malbec, 20% cabernet sauvignon, 15% cabernet franc, 10% merlot and 5% petit verdot.

    When you mentioned Eucalyptus, I immediately thought of Napa. I remember all the Eucalyptus tree row windbreaks there, placed perpendicular to the wind direction (just as I had in my backyard when growing up in So Cal). Why do I mention the Eucalypus trees? Look where they put the large bins/hoppers during "crush". Right under the trees! (A secret revealed to me by a wine insider.) That is why young Napa reds taste like you've been hit by baseball bat, and why they need to lie down for a bit. I don't know if the windbreaks are still there (they did serve a purpose), but the "bat to the face" is what I remember of Napa reds.

    • @NoSediment
      @NoSediment  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sure You right. 🌱 We each have our associations. For me Eucalyptus on the nose immediately takes to Australia. Apparently some of the leaves constantly would get mixed into the grapes, and because the aroma of eucalyptus is so strong, it is enough to add that distinctive flavour to the wine. 🍷 Cheers!

    • @mikegarwood8680
      @mikegarwood8680 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NoSediment I should have mentioned that the Eucalyptus trees planted in California had their origin from Australia. They were originally brought here during the Gold Rush as a possible source of lumber (which failed); they were later set up for wind abatement (yes, I am a trained historian).

    • @NoSediment
      @NoSediment  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thank You for the lovely comment! 🙌🙌🙌 and my Vizsla - Obi Wan also sends hi! 🐕 Regarding Your question - complete blind tasting is of course way harder, and I cannot for 💯 say that I would have placed these wines in their respective origins. However, I wish to believe that Chile, Argentina and California would have been wines I can spot. But, I also say this only because Chilean wine was based on Carmenere and Argentinean was based on Malbec. If both of those wines would have been based on Cabernet Sauvignon - that would have made it more difficult! 😓

      Very good note! 😉 I have a line of great Tuscany reds prepared for another video - otherwise I would have included one for sure! 🍷😅

      Unfortunately no.. 😢 it was because I had another video made, where I tasted only Super Tuscan wines, and I didn’t want it to be repetitive. 😣 But yes, of course Super Tuscany would fit nicely here.. 🙌

      Well, they do have some great wines, no doubt! 🥂 But they also produce a lot of ‘everyday quality’. And I am sure that at some price categories other origins can offer better quality-price performance! ✨ Cheers! 🍷

      I am so really sorry, yes, there should have been a Tuscan red here, but I excluded them because I had planned another video that highlights only these wines. Coming soon… 🤞hopefully You will enjoy it.

    In Bordeaux vintage is very important. As you certainly know. 2017 is one of the weaker ones. 😉..cheers👋

      Yes, of course, In Bordeaux vintage matters a lot! 🙃 2017 was really not the greatest vintage, but then again there have been producers capable of making good wines. Saying that, this wine could have performed even better if I had chosen another vintage, agree with You! 🍷
