Apparently there was a line in Hot Zone where Rodney was to say "my brother", but David Hewlett asked if he could change it to "sister" just in case they would bring the character on, with Kate in mind.
i agree, it just makes the show even more perfect with their interactions

Funny thing is, they did a movie (A Dog's Breakfast) with Paul MacGillion (Beckett) to get her some experience since they knew the sister might come up in the writing. They played siblings in that, too.

It's missing one of the best scenes... the one where John introduces himself and Rodney says "Yeah, yeah - back off, Kirk... she's my sister."
It got copy righted unfortunately but I do somehow have it on one of my other videos Rodney and John being an iconic duo :)
and also I think one of the best is right after this, in the kitchen and "give me your hand", if you're going to show this much might as well show the full scene :~)

I know David Hewlett & I was telling him about how my favorite episodes of SGA & SG-1 were of him & Kate being siblings, since they actually are in real life. He said "oh yeah me too ... But I taught her everything she knows about acting which is why she didn't suck!" 😂 He talks big, but he adores her, they are close & this was a brilliant move on the writer's part!
That sounds like Mckay to the T... yeah she's good but I taught her lol.
The only person on earth who can diss Kate is David ... he does it all the time, but she gives a good as she takes ...
..but god help the person who even implies she is not entirely perfect ...

"Acting" ... that's them in real life ! Minus the travelling to different galaxies, and fighting aliens, investigating parallel universes, and secret pseudo government organisations ...
These two actors and the writers are just great. They made the Rodney-Jeannie plot lines so thoroughly interesting and engaging than they otherwise could have been. Loved how his sister demonstrated the human side of Rodney, which added so much depth to the character.
Well they are ACTUAL brother sister, so that's how they worked so well together.

Their interactions are just too pure. Zero acting. And the producers thought Kate would not be actress enough first 😂

They actually made the movie to get Kate some experience, and also to screen test the dynamic.
No matter the ego he has, no matter the pride, he still will bow before his sister when he's wrong.

Siblings are hard to write for I have 7 it's very hard to explain to people that don't have them, this is the best sibling relationship I have seen Probably because they are Siblings in real life.
As Twilight Sparkle said In a fan fic but it still applies "You can't explain sibling rivalry to an only child.

McKay gave me the most feels of any character on the show. His and her sibling interactions were extremely genuine.
One of the prettiest women in all of stargate.. And this is a franchise with many extremely attractive women..
