Apparently there was a line in Hot Zone where Rodney was to say "my brother", but David Hewlett asked if he could change it to "sister" just in case they would bring the character on, with Kate in mind.
Funny thing is, they did a movie (A Dog's Breakfast) with Paul MacGillion (Beckett) to get her some experience since they knew the sister might come up in the writing. They played siblings in that, too.
These two actors and the writers are just great. They made the Rodney-Jeannie plot lines so thoroughly interesting and engaging than they otherwise could have been. Loved how his sister demonstrated the human side of Rodney, which added so much depth to the character.
and also I think one of the best is right after this, in the kitchen and "give me your hand", if you're going to show this much might as well show the full scene :~)

The parallel universe Rodney , so different to "our Rodney". I could imagine the character Jeannie shoving her Rodney into the parallel universe and keep the other Rodney

Siblings are hard to write for I have 7 it's very hard to explain to people that don't have them, this is the best sibling relationship I have seen Probably because they are Siblings in real life. As Twilight Sparkle said In a fan fic but it still applies "You can't explain sibling rivalry to an only child.
All thanks to the modification of an off-hand line from Letters From Pegasus, where Mackay was supposed to reference a brother. Tweak it to sister and a bit of luck and we get to see a real sibling dynamic on -screen. Boy do they play well on-screen together. Even in interviews that same dynamic is still there. Love to watch them interact. Wish Jeannie had appeared again in the show. Gives a bit of a brain bug... Jeannie's daughter would be grown by now... Could be a good science character for a revival show.

McKay gave me the most feels of any character on the show. His and her sibling interactions were extremely genuine.
