Refraining from sins can cause pain, eg alcoholism, going to 0 immediately will cause withdrawal and you need to be weaned of gently to not die as your body gets dependent on it. But I'm generally referring to addictions
False, you are always in control of your actions. The prefrontal cortex may be weakened due to the addiction and impulsivity may be high but you can set up your environment in a way to prevent yourself from engaging and after some time, the circuits in the brain (relevant to that addiction) will be weakened and you will be more conscious of the impulsive behaviour and the damages it causes. Also, increasing in remembrance of Allah (s.w.t) will aid one exponentially.

From a non-Arabic speaker, This video was extremely distracting and difficult to follow and understand because you kept going and going with the Arabic for a period, and then switched to the English translation but then you went to Arabic again, and then said the translation for that part again. From next time onwards, please either: 1. Say the complete arabic text, then say the complete english translation. OR 2. Say the complete arabic text, and show the English text as subtitles.
I recommend everyone to read Ibn al-Qayyim's books. Both english and Arabic. They're complete gems!
Could you please recommend some books. I don’t know Arabic. I only can read English books

The sins themselves cause chronic pain which sum up to something greater than what you mention.
Addiction is similar to sihr. In that you are not totally in control of your own will.

Is السر really the soul? Literally it is "secret", is one's secret his soul? I am not certain about that.
It means the soul or the self in this context.
