The problem is not the presence of police the problem is the justice system that releases criminals early.
There will be a new DA once Price is recalled who will act differently in Nov and the judges are under pressure. Things will change.
I will also mentioned that I am born and raised in East Oakland and can tell you, 99% of the people straighten-up when there is police presence. It's highly important.
The problem is that the leftist-party has gotten light on crime due to failed policies, targeting law abiding citizens over criminals & voting for prop 47. How about make a change by switching parties that's for law n order over listening to the same party that continues to lie to the public for your vote, only to turn their back on you until the next election cycle. Remember this clown was out taking photo ops in Oakland when he got hit in the head w/ a water bottle? That's right, it was just before the election...

The level of certain crimes in Oakland suggests that organized gangs are involved, but no one talks about that. You can increase CHP on a short-term basis to reduce crime temporarily, but if there's no permanent increase in law enforcement, the criminals will resurface.

We are taxes already to the hilt. There is now a Mello Roos tax in addition to the prop 13. The properties are overvalued. We have a tax of $1.25 per gallon of gasoline.
As far as crime is concern, according to CA DMV handbook, the CHP who stops a vehicle CANNOT arsk the immigration status of the driver nor the occupants. It goes further that it is illegal for any CA or city law enforcement to help ICE. Next time you stop at the DMV, pick up a handbook with any language you want.

Google “Shoplifting in San Francisco” and you will find more than 100,000 hits. And you will find lots of TH-cam videos, where you can watch a single thief, or an entire gang, walk into an SF Walgreens or CVS and empty the shelves. Most walk in, go about their pilfering, and then walk out, though at least one thief rode their bike into the store and departed the same way, carefully navigating their two-wheeler down a narrow aisle.
We probably shouldn’t call it shoplifting anymore, since that term connotes the idea of a person trying to conceal their crime. In San Francisco, there is no attempt to conceal theft, and there is almost never any effort by store employees, including security personnel, to confront the thieves. The most they do is record the thefts with their cell phones.
Why is shoplifting so rampant? Because state law holds that stealing merchandise worth $950 or less is just a misdemeanor, which means that law enforcement probably won’t bother to investigate, and if they do, prosecutors will let it go.

I’m glad to hear CHP and the governor are working together to make Oakland a better and safer city. The officials such as Oakland’s mayor and Pamela Price are a disgrace. Crimes has gone up especially around Lake Merritt because once you park your car around there, you risk burglars breaking into your car. As a voter, I object to CHP assuming general police duties in Oakland or any other city. They are traffic officers who flipped titles when they assumed the duties of guarding the governor and state offices. They have wanted to be STATE POLICE for decades but met resistance from Sheriff's who are in charge of general law enforcement within their countries. I mean no disrespect to the officers but our state did not choose to enact a State Police when CHP was put in place. Yes, Oakland has a problem but the rest of the state does as well. This Governor is a wreck to the state and this is another example. And he has delusions of becoming President.
