Great video! One of my “bucket list” items is to fly aboard a 747. I guess most of them are being turned into freighters these days. I’ve wondered if it was harder to fly one of the older variants of the 747 as opposed to ones stuffed full of technology. Sure seems like there was much more to keep track of “back in the day”. Great video!
Thank's for uploading this air museum, Mark. I must admit I had not heard of it before - I like museums that allow you to also be 'hands-on'. I too flew in my first 747 in 1981. I had spent 6 weeks touring the US mainland & stopped over in Hawaii for a couple of days. Back then there were no direct flights from Australia to the mainland USA. Hawaii was a great place to relax & unwind. We flew back on a Pan Am 747 - a very memorable flight since as we landed the face masks all dropped down - making us all very concerned until the air hostess assured us over the intercom all was okay over. Turns out the plane was the first 747 purchased by Pam Am so it was old!
The Hiller is a cool place. Hiller was Silicon Valley before it existed. He formed his own company in high school and became a solid defense manufacturer.
I remember seeing that flying platform in the press when I was a kid. It always seemed to be used when talking about science and our bright future. This is a great museum if you're an avgeek. So much cool stuff

Lufthansa still fly 747s between the US and Germany, and there are a few others. But very rare now. 😞
