Cry every time I listen to this beautiful song, my dad showed it me when I was younger and this song reminds me of who he was and how good life was back then. Miss my childhood so much.
Indeed...I never was utterly fond of the series...but I have never missed an episode! True masterpiece, a cartoon that cannot ever been remade. Simply, timeless... And this theme song suits the quality of the cartoon...brilliant tune that almost make me cry whenever I hear it :/
This songs makes me burst into tears every time I hear it… When i was little, every time it was on TV, I had to go to my room to cry. It stirs something really powerful inside me, something akin to a poignant nostalgia for a home i ve never had and yet that I miss with all my soul. The memory of an England that never existed and yet still lives eternally in our hearts. It captures all the beauty and sheer poetry of the book the series in inspired by. I’d like that song played at my funeral !
I too used to get very emotional about this song as a small child. I'd completely forgotten about The Wind in the Willows for the past 25 years or so; today something sparked the memory and here I am, sitting in my room and crying while listening to this song. Such a hauntingly beautiful tune. Reminds me of when the world seemed like a more cheerful place. You summed it all up perfectly, fantastic comment!
"Spin me a dream woven silver and gold. Of sunshine and shadow and days long ago..." I can't think of more beautiful lyric than this. This lovely little story, film (for me this 1983 production stands head and shoulders above all the others) and this song have been a constant friend to me since my childhood and now, in middle age, it means as much to me as it ever did. It stirs a great longing in me too; for when I was 10 years old and things were so much simpler. Always remember though that amongst all our human 'issues' lies a capacity for kindness and caring that is so often overlooked in our mad, negative, media driven world. Kenneth Graham didn't suggest that everything was perfect in the Willows world. The wild wood represented the darkness that is out there and stalks us all, but through it all the dear fellows from the story triumph. Remember this friends, today and tomorrow.
marwood1969 My favourite line in the song too… it's generally at that point that the lump in my throat becomes intolerable ! Thank you for your comment.
Proof that Cosgrove Hall Productions were one, if not, the greatest children's productions/animation houses ever to exist. I really miss them! PS: RIP Mark Hall (1937-2011)
Whether you liked this show or not you can't disagree that is top rate in quality and story telling. Gives me a warm feeling of nostalgia, got videos to show my daughter. One of the best kids shows ever..
Thank you so much! We used to watch short episodes with my children here in Greece, subtitled,so we didn't miss anything from the dialogues and the music... Wonderful British work.
I was not a child of the 80's. I was born right at the start of the 90's. I was fortunate enough however that this was the first adaption of "The Wind In The Willows" that introduced me to the story with the Series as well as the feature film and how grateful I am that it was THIS adaption I was introduced to. It is superior to every other in casting, in atmosphere, in animation and period of creation, In fact I have never known a Series made so perfect by the theme, casting, setting and time of making other then Dad's Army. Compared with the other group of Actors voicing the four main characters, The casting for this version of the story was as Perfect as the Casting for Dad's Army. Jason, Sallis, Pearson and Hordern proved themselves the Best team of Actors to voice the characters we had grown to love as children and remember as Adults. It pleases me to see so much positive vibe comes from fans. I remember back in 2015 after so many years after last watching the programme finding the whole series and watching the old episodes I watched on my VHS's as a child and despite forgetting most of the lines all those years back, They just flooded back into my memory as each episode rolled on. Thats how gooder children's programme this is. I myself am a countryman and I may live in the middle of no where, But it gives me great pleasure knowing that I am near to a river a woods and surrounded by fields in Surrey. Whenever I look around the countryside, these characters and this song and memories of younger days, days which are long since gone when life was simpler, happier run through my ears and through my eyes and a slight lump forms around my Heart and I feel this kind of sadness, which is actually deep Happiness. This is a Prime example of when children's programmes were made with love and Heart unlike what children are left with nower days. Though I am some distance from being a father, One of my aims as a father would be for my children to grow up loving this more then mobiles and ipods and ipads. And may this series continue to enchant, enhance as well as touch the Hearts and Souls of children for generations to come.
I watched this when I was a little kid in China in the 80s. The song has stayed with me ever since. I have traveled half way round the world, settled in UK, with my own kids, but the song still makes my heart ache.
I just have to hear the first note and I cry so much. Brings back great memories. Adored this as a child. Watched it on itv1 and RTÉ 2 an Irish channel known then as Network 2.
takes me back to a time when there was no Internet, sitting down with my parents and siblings and watching this together...there was no hint of the 'dark' themed shows children watch today...thanks
even though i m cypriot i grew up with this amazingly beautiful song and tv series. and i always cryied when i saw scenes combined with humor and drama. i suppose these beautifuly animated animals represented perfectly the way of life in mainland of britain between old fellows in small villages
Yes it did feel that way, as a child in England in the 80s. Perfect representation of how it felt. Peaceful and kind and safe. Beyond blissful. Much love to you and I'm glad you got the pleasure of it that I did. ❤️
I couldn't agree more with whats been said already . This takes me back to my childhood and watching this on Childrens ITV ... This song has always stuck in my mind since .. Just pleasant memories
This always reminds me of my nan and my aunty sue when they were alive. I used to go over there when I used to stay over there house for the weekend. Happy memories :-)
It is strange, when I was a child I did not like this show. But I still watched every episode, even though I did not appreciate the quality until many years later when I had grown up. It is like although I did not understand why it was good, I somehow knew that is was good. I liked cartoons, with action. Today I can hardly remember any of them. But this, this I remember!
I loved this series so much, & the beautiful theme song. I thought the characters and voices were so lovable and well done. I loved Ratty and Moley and Badger and silly old Toad - such a heart-warming series. I miss it. :) O:)
I remember watching this with my Grandfather who was very much like the wise, old Mr.Badger, stern and tough on the outside but gentle and loving within.
Thank you for this. Remember it with found memory's when I was a child. My health is crumbling at the moment and it is nice to think back to a time when I thought the future was bright. Thank you.
Of a time when i lived near a river & so many summer time memories in the uk of a time untouched by todays evil & hurtfullness.I was ten & always loved this song as much now as then so thanks for sharing this i see it meant as much to others as it does me now.Have it on my phone mp3 & when life is crap i play this to go back when england was...well not this we all have now.Thankyou
Both this theme song & the actual wind in the willows tv show starring sir Michael Horden & sir david Jason to name a few of the cast is without a doubt 1 of the best if not the best version's of this well known book & tv series.
My son is 23 now, we never missed an episode and it always made us both laugh. When I would sing this song, he would tear up...to this day, I don't know why. It effects me the same. Thank you so much for letting me hear the full song and the video was perfect...
Tears welled up in my eyes, when I heard the theme and saw those beautifully designed characters and settings. So much love was put into this and you can see this in every second of this heart-warming and amazing show. One of the fondest memories of my childhood, when it comes to TV or movies. Thank u so much for the upload, buddy!!
If you feel like crying when you hear this then I heartily encourage you to find a quiet, comfortable place and cry away. There is nothing shameful in tears and I'll bet you anything that you will feel wonderfully at peace when the sobs subside. You'll find that tenderness is not weakness.
this makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, i used to watch this early weekday morings while my mom did my hair. She used to always sing along to this intro.
The wind in the willows sang softly to me Follow my voice wherever it leads From mountains, through valleys, to deep rolling seas Born on the wings of the breeze Spin me a dream woven silver and gold From sunshine and shadows and days long ago Where people are memories and stories unfold Willows the tales you have told me Wind in the willows you just seem to know Who you can turn to and which way to go To unwind your wonderous mind Wind in the willows take me there
I LOVE Badger because he is so cool and he makes me cry every time something bad happens to him which never happens for me with any of the other characters. Also, I love David Jason who is the voice of Toad.
With all the ups and downs in your life.. With all the hectic digital lifestyle around.. 1 thing u cherish & miss the most is ur simple & innocent childhood.. U can't bring it back with all the money and fame u've in this world.. but the memories.. the beautiful memories.. U have them 4 life, this is what keeps you going.. & this song.. this show.. brings it all back in a flash.. & u forget everything & walk down the memory lane amidst those wonderful days.. Thnx a ton for uploading it buddy :')
Loved this as a kid and loved the sound of Ralph McTells voice. He also sang on another program with stories every week. Cant remember the name though..
I dunno...why is my adulthood not as magical as this? Still...I don't even think my childhood really was either...unless I happened to lose myself in something like this so completely...I think that's what they mean when they talk about escape to a place that was never there...oh well...on another note I definitely think that its a competition between David Jason and Rik Mayell as to who was the best voice of toad! I really can't make up my mind!
I am going to see Ralph McTell for his 80th Birthday Concert! It's at the Royal Festival Hall, London. He is still touring and still going strong! That said, his concert is a solo appearance so I don't think he will be performing this song.
I hope you don't mind but I posted a link to this on my "The Wind in the Willows T.V. show" Face Book page? I love this song, It's one of a few favorites I listen to while going to sleep... Makes me have pleasant dreams... :)
Personally I find it really hard to sing, it demands a bit of a range. Plus… I'd probably burst our crying mid-verse … But i always thought it would make a great lullaby ! I am decided to sing it to my lovely little godson one day :)
Not ashamed to say this brings a tear to my eyes.
Such a sweet, innocent children's tv show.
Cry every time I listen to this beautiful song, my dad showed it me when I was younger and this song reminds me of who he was and how good life was back then. Miss my childhood so much.

rosecoloured glass the comforting, slower, caring England of our grandparents and childhood memories.

Omg tears. Brings back so many memories. I use to watch this every evening after school. These days were the best. It was a different time. :')
I watched this when I was a little kid in China in the 80s. The song has stayed with me ever since. I have traveled half way round the world, settled in UK, with my own kids, but the song still makes my heart ache.
Such a wonderful show - my boys and I loved it very much. ^_^ ...and yes, I cried.
100% pure distilled nostalgia. That theme song gets me right in the feels, every time.

We all ready for a big walk in the park with this song
I cried, i loved the show.

Ah... my childhood.... thanks for sharing this song with us...!!!

You're most welcome, you can never beat classics like this.
Thank you for this.
Remember it with found memory's when I was a child.

Here from Denmark. Vinden I piletræerne. Translated slavishly. Loved the show. Very good story with great moral.

Oh my god. I didn't know there was a long version of this song.

What great memories growing up
I was Mr Toad in a the drama we did on parents day in school. It was hard work. I had to stay up late to memorize my part. It brings tears to my eyes.
Absolutely beautiful theme song, probably the best theme song for any children's program ever.
For once a better memory.
I use to watch this on Disney here in the US in the 80s as a kid and dug it.
This is England
I know but it came to the us in the late eighties
This made me tear up... 😭❤️
A lullaby song for the children
this makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, i used to watch this early weekday morings while my mom did my hair. She used to always sing along to this intro.
I loved the episode with the field mice and how Ratty and Moley saved Billy from the 'Weir'. So precious. I tear up to this day.
Absolutely!!!
What was that episode called?
My daughter loved Mr. Toad; I wanted to live @ Mole End, love this song. Thanks so much for posting.
The wind in the willows sang softly to me
Follow my voice wherever it leads
From mountains, through valleys, to deep rolling seas
Born on the wings of the breeze
Spin me a dream woven silver and gold
From sunshine and shadows and days long ago
Where people are memories and stories unfold
Willows the tales you have told me
Wind in the willows you just seem to know
Who you can turn to and which way to go
To unwind your wonderous mind
Wind in the willows take me there

Me too!! But as an adolescent, didn't see it til then ;)

I'd have to agree with you about that I think.
Agreed, i play this for my daughter to help her sleep.
Thanks!

Not at all, I've seen it, I'm glad 6 people like it. I'm certainly glad you liked it too.
I am going to see Ralph McTell for his 80th Birthday Concert! It's at the Royal Festival Hall, London.
He is still touring and still going strong!
That said, his concert is a solo appearance so I don't think he will be performing this song.
This book had a spin-off, I believe, called Frog and Toad All Year. A classic.
my childhood :'(
+Hubaib Habibullah I loved it too - think I saw it as a teenager, rather than child :)
oooooo, well i used to be 7 when this use to come up on television :D
Hubaib Habibullah Wow, lucky duck, seeing it as a child - very lovely!!! :) O:)
:D thank you
Hubaib Habibullah You're welcome! :)
Thank you.....
lagu ni membawa aku kembali semula ke masa silam, ketika zaman kanak² dahulu....
aku rindu zaman itu...😭😭😭
I did too and I own the whole series on DVD.
This might sound silly but this is one of the most beautiful theme song for a kid show.
i like this song i remember watching it!
BBC had some really good kids shows. The older shows had more good stories to them. UK and Canada had all the best kids shows in my opinion.
This wasn't a BBC Show, it was ITV
David Wilson Well OK then, British television then. Sorry hehe. Whatever.
I loved the Canadian shows too!!! :) Totally agree with you :) O:)
I love it.
It's a pity they don't make music like this no more :(
😢😢
quality endures
Soy de los 80s! (83) No me lo perdia con mi hermana.
This is classic
Thanks, you're most welcome Cassie.
Siempre en mis recuerdos 😍
Like summer tempests came his tears.
I hope you don't mind but I posted a link to this on my "The Wind in the Willows T.V. show" Face Book page?
I love this song, It's one of a few favorites I listen to while going to sleep... Makes me have pleasant dreams... :)
Τα ωραία αγνά παιδικα μας χρονια τι όμορφες στιγμές
Esta peli me encantó cuando la ví hace unos añitos jejeje
I have a question for you Can this theme song be also be used a lullaby?
Personally I find it really hard to sing, it demands a bit of a range. Plus… I'd probably burst our crying mid-verse … But i always thought it would make a great lullaby ! I am decided to sing it to my lovely little godson one day :)
Louise lisse
Oh.
+Ruth Barron Definitely, if your range is big enough. :)
Oh.
I WATCHED THIS ALL THE TIME WHEN I WAS YOUNG!!!! Did you know you can buy the WHOLE SERIES on DVD?
🥳🐸
😭😭😭
Toad the first master shake, Mole the first meatwad, ratty the first frylock and badger the first carl :)
I really did think this video seemed most familiar.
This minds me of East Anglia.
