Two beautiful people and two fantastic actors. Paul Newman was so handsome and Joann Woodard was so beautiful. I have watched "The long hot summer" so many times in my lifetime. Just sad I'll never get to see great movies like this again. The years have come and gone and only the memories remain of some of the best actors and actresses and movies of all time. Seems like now there just thrown together and who cares for all the violence and curse words through the whole movie. Makes me ill to know this is what has become of the movie industry.
I remember hearing Newman alluding to the fact that they had plenty of opportunities for divorce, times they could gladly have dumped the whole thing. But they didn't, and that says more about the strength of their marriage than anything. I think they were a couple who could have given some excellent advice to married couples about how to make marriage live up to the vows.
BUT SADLY AT THE COST OF LEAVING HIS 1ST WIFE AND

I grew up near the Newman-Woodwards in Westport CT & saw them many times around town
Love how they can't get their facts straight. Joanne was artistic director of the Westport Country Playhouse from 2000 through 2005. The theater opened in 1931. Paul performed there but he did not found the theater.

It was never a “Hollywood “ love story because that would mean it was fake and put on for the public. Their’s was a deep and true love story that lives on through their children and these beautiful pictures of them and the life they built together with their family. Oh to love like this! Once in a lifetime for sure!!
Hollywood love story can mean lots of things. They were IN Hollywood, and at the top of their game as actors. Can you get any better than Paul Newman? Good looking, great actor, seemingly stand up guy. They were definitely a Hollywood couple.

I naively believed his witty analogy of the burger and the steak... Scratching beyond the surface you realize his second marriage begun as a torrid affair and adultery, and that he'd also betrayed Woodward later (Bacon over steak). Loved the actor, the style, and the humour but felt disappointed at his infidelities. But who am I to judge?
