When you went to pay your Utility bill, couldn’t you have used your online bank app to make the payment from your bank account ??? I believe it’s still would’ve been considered using cash

To me the real problem is people need to control their impulses and develop financial responsibility. I cannot understand why people use a credit card as if it was free money and does not have to be repaid.
I feel more pain when I use my credit card. I know if I overspend I'm in trouble and if I don't pay it off by the due date I will be charged interest. That's more potential pain than overspending with cash.
Using a credit card also helps you to budget. All your purchases are recorded in real time and even categorized for you.

I think using cash is a good method for a lot of people BUT it does come issues. As you pointed out ATM fees, needing to get to an ATM, or leaving your wallet etc. The reason I don’t use cash is convenience. I just bring my phone which has a small pouch for my license and a credit card if some places don’t take Apple Pay or Google pay. No one forgets their phone but it seems more people forget their wallets.
If you are learning to budget then only using cash should not be your solution. It doesn’t fix the core issue. Budgeting requires responsibility. Here’s a better solution: only have a certain amount deposited into a checking account. Say 500$ of a 2k paycheck. Have all of your bills taken out of savings because it’s a necessity to live and everything else is limited by the amount in tour checking account for wants or general needs such as groceries and toiletries. My dad does this and it’s worked wonders for him. You don’t need a super high tech bank to do this. Just one with a general user friendly app. Also set up banking notifications so you are not disconnected from not seeing the cash leave your account or “hand” That’s my advice.

Is this an American thing because as an adult I keep my wallet, use mainly cash and no debt. It's crazy to use what is basically a loan to buy essentials. No wonder Americans have so much personal debt.

What I am doing is using my bank account, which is a local federal credit Union to pay my bills and the rest is cash and saved
