I find it strange that Yuri didn't take the giant squid with him after he defected since its also controlled by mind control tech, and fits well with his weird and strange arsenal.
Yuri has been pretty consistent in his inability to mind control brains that differ from a normal human's. He can't mind control dogs, T-Rexes, or even brutes (which are mutated humans with severely degraded brains). What makes a giant squid any different? The reality is, like the attack dogs, the squids were bred and trained (in the case of the squid by pain-and-pleasure treatment, hence the machine wrapped around them) by the soviets, rather than mind controlled.
I think the Dolphins are better against the Shipyard than Boomers for the same reason you explained when attacking through subs. Shipyards are big and take up many squares of space. Boomers only hit one or two of the outer squares so the damage is calculated on that. However, the Dolphins are able to attack through to the centre, which means damage is calculated on more squares of damage. Then again, I could simply be wrong.
Bigger unit/structure is that the point of Dolphins performance (Just aim in the back of that unit not unit itself.) Also Dolphins can attack ground unit/structure if you attack on ground. I still make bridge trap to kill heavier unit when it passing the bridge.
@George Rome nope, already tried myself and confirmed many times, shipyard cant even be destroyed by nuke or storm, yet easily destroyed by 3 shot by elite dolphin pierce attack, weird
One more thing. When you attack shipyard with dolphine, same thing will happen. if you force attack behind of the shipyard It will show you incredible damage
I remember a custom map that allows you to practice the dolphin trick. They can be very broken when micro-ed well. Force attacking along the length of the ships can deal huge amounts of damage. I remember a case where a con yard is built on a corner next to the sure, and a dolphin can destroy it in seven or eight attacks.
The way I see the factions' naval arsenal is this. Allied is the best at open water battles. They can win against other navy with a mixed group of Destroyers and Dolphins, and Dolphins destroy shipyards like there's no tomorrow. Dolphins with micro can also destroy Submarines. They also have the best anti-air naval unit. Soviet is better than the Allies near land. The Dreadnought is a far bigger threat than an Aircraft Carrier to buildings. More DPS, takes more anti-air to neutralize their missiles than Carrier's hornets. Yuri takes off shore bombardment to another level. The Boomer submarine's missiles travel faster than the Dreadnought and thus are harder to shoot down, the Boomer itself comes out earlier and is harder to detect. Worst at upfront naval battles though, 2 Submarines or Destroyers can destroy 1 Boomer easily.
Not always, me actually Soviet fanatic and for example on the Tsunami map I can take control over the sea... because i can make submarines as the nacal yar is built but You can make Dolphins after battle lab wich takes time, time to me to make submarines. @@LeoMidori Actually I never got this. Yuri has a real weakness there. It is hard to exploit but there are situations where you can just attack by air from the sea and there is nothing that Yuri can do to prevent this. His floating disk can easily be shot down by a aegis. Or a few sea scorpions (they always where kind of meh). So with a few harriers you can basically prevent yuri from using sea transports at all. Island map? Well, just build an air base and 4-8 harrier and either a spy-sat or just go scouting with your planes. And then he is land-locked. All of this could have been prevented by giving yuri a floating gateling gun or something. Also it is insane how one aegis can just lock down air traffic for a whole region.
@@keineangabe4434 These are valid criticisms. I guess Yuri has the advantage of Boomers just being annoying and all, but his one sub policy does hurt his naval forces' flexibility in an ironic twist. You're right in that a gatling boat would be an interesting prospect for him, even if it was cheap and largely ineffectual against other sea units, or even land attacks for that matter, it would still fill the gap for him in a big way.
Dolphins literally uses the same attack as Disruptors from TS, infact the only difference is that Disruptor fires a continuous beam while Dolphin fires a single piece of the beam. considering its a Sonic based attack, its quite accurate in both cases I still remember that using Disruptors by force firing them behind structures causing much more damage then directly attacking the structure. Also one more thing which I don't know if confirmed or not but when Boomer Submarines surface to fire Cruise Missiles on ground, Squidwards can then entangle them like they do ships, not confirmed tho.
Destroyers can attack submarines with their cannon if they force attack a location a submarine moves onto, or if they shoot a tile that has a submarine you can't see (but that's harder to show when testing against friendly units).
Dolphins seem to use the sonic emitter properties from Tiberian Sun, just with a really short firing time that results in a short, projectile-like beam which explains why it deals more damage by firing through targets and why friendly naval units take friendly fire.
Once a submarine has been surfaced by an attack, you can then target it with other naval units. Overall, dolphins are the best naval battle units given per unit of cost they outweight any other naval battle unit, if you use them correctly.
back in the days we used dolphins a lot in competitive play. counterintuitive as it may seem, they dominated navy battles by blasting through the enemy ranks and making short work of shipyards. of course the pre-requisite is having a battle lab but that is the point at which navies become worthwhile anyway... before that, no naval siege units... then came Yuri's Revenge and Boomers started to dominate all navy maps, mostly because they're buildable without a lab. people just re-rolled (quit early without loss) when it was Yuri vs another side of theirs on naval maps...
