Did anyone else notice how the horse knows not to touch its hoof to the ground while the man is working on the horseshoe at the anvil? Very cool to see. You see it at 5:54.

It's because their feet are a little bit sensitive right after a trim, so it usually takes them a few minutes to get used to, and they tend to avoid fully putting their feet flat on the ground during that time.
Also because some horses actually enjoy having their hooves done. It probably feels like having a lot of built-up gunk under your over grown toenails and then finally getting them cleaned and trimmed then polished.
it really doesn't matter if the hooves touch the ground. Like the others mentioned, its probably a comfort thing for the horse.

its so amazing how effortless u make it look like. i once tried just removing horse shoes (and some other stuff) from my schools horse and me and 1 other girl got 3 shoes of in about hour and next day my muscless were hurting a lot. ngl it was bit harder for us because we had to hold the leg ourself and the nails were really worn out so it was hard to get the hooks open from them

Forget how satisfying it is for us to watch. That horse must be relieved and satisfied to get this done
Beyond just being kinda relaxing, watching hoof maintenance like this kinda makes me appreciate what a cool evolutionary adaptation hooves are, like especially on horses of all the ungulates with how big and thick they are that all this effort is essentially like a manicure, or less even just like cutting your toenails, just artificially doing the thing that would normally happen through use in a way that is in present circumstance healthier for the animal and somehow this rough procedure doesn’t hurt one little bit for the horse.

It actually feels good for them to be rid of the overgrowth-which is why they learn to just stand there. Not doing this is the painful thing.

This actually makes me want to get a horse or help out with horses, but I live in Abington and we don’t have a farm, though we do have a pretty decent sized grassy yard. This is one well behaved and very cute horse!
Whenever Jazzmin comes back from our local farrier, her hooves are so clean and beautiful. I love the work the farriers do, it makes my day ❤
This is so satisfying. But I used to want to get a horse but things to you I realized that they require a bunch more work so thank you I want to be able to get a horse a good life thank you.
I always thought that but then I went to riding school and met a horse called Harry or as people called him one eye Harry he had a bit of s temper and was difficult so no one chose him to ride but when I met him we bonded straight of the bat so much so they gifted him to me so we come to an arrangement for me to keep him on they land and take over his care and upkeep it was such a please unfortunately he died when I was 16 or 17 I'd love to own a horse again
I had a horse for a number of years and yes they do take a lot of work to maintain and keep healthy but the overall companionship and love you get from them is worth all the money in the world

It depends on the temperament of the animal and how frequently the horse is around and exposed to these things. Also it doesn’t hurt them. This horse clearly is well trained and very well looked after. I’m just surprised he’s not kicked in the face. 😅

It's not that hard with a tamed horse who is used to be taken care of.
You can also put the leg on your thigh if you kneel a little, but then you can't turn around the horse or reach and grab stuff lol. This position is somewhat relaxing for them but they might kick by reflex at first, so still beware of not standing right behind them. Once they understand that you don't mean any harm they usually let you do whatever.

Love these uploads as someone who's owned a horse it pains me to se people treat them like dirt if you know the rite people and have the rite land it isn't expensive or hard to look after on unfortunately my horse Harry died a few years ago when I was around 16 or 17 when I first met him no one would ride him due to having on eye and being a handful when I first met him he obviously never belonged to me he was at a riding school because we bonded so well and he responded to me in a positive way they let me have him and we come to an arrangement to keep him on there land and I do the rest like food health care and sorting his feet it was a pleasure and he was a pleasure to ride no animal deserves a bad life just love care patients and respect

Just know this: it doesn’t hurt the horse. For anyone who’s worried that ‘oH nO hEs CuTtInG tHe HoRsEs FeEt OfF’ he’s not. It’s basically a nail manicure for us, so when you cut your nails it doesn’t hurt right? That’s what the horses are feeling. So don’t be scared that he’s hurting it because it’s completely fine😊
what about the hot iron when they press it on the hoof?
@BMAN compare that to the craftsman cutting the hoof, it must have felt worse than being burnt right? well nope. It doesnt hurt the horse since the hooves are made up of dead tissues.. just like your fingernails.

It helps fit the shoe better and mould the metal easier if required.

I have put on horse shoes myself. It was an emergency shoeing.
I have found that farriers have incredible core strength. It may look easy but its not an easy job.

Too much love and care , thank you Sir for being kind to these sweet innocent souls ........ horses do not have fascinations or needs for social interactions with humans , they were sensitive and independent , they only have few relationships with humans which make things even more spical and wonderful when you have a horse friend they are only calm and patient when they trust that you will treat them right
