I am currently reading "Why Religion"? I am 80 years old and I broke down and cried reading this book. Gorgeous, tragic work. I am a "Christian agnostic" and find more "religion" in Elaine's life than it the teaching and narrative of Christianity.
Can't wait to read her book re Buddha and Jesus. At 15 I walked away from the Catholic Church and never looked back. Became and agnostic constantly looking for answers. I have long suspected that the teachings of the Buddha who never claimed to be God had something in common with sayings of Jesus in the gospel of Thomas, that we have the sacred light within us and to nourish it will bring us peace. Not to do so eventually leads to suffering. Thank you Elaine Pagels.
