Question about NSS. Does your wiring for the starter bypass the need to use the NSS on the 4L60e transmission? I’m working on a 1990 Sierra 4.8/4L60e swap and in order to use the factory gear shift I’ll need to remove the NSS from the transmission. I know the 90 Sierra has the mechanical style NSS on the column so I was wondering was there anything I need to do with wiring that comes from the 4L60e NSS. The donor is a 2000 Silverado which uses the same fuse box you’re using in the Video. Thanks!
Hey Richard. I use the switch that is on the side of the transmission and also end up having the safety switch from the original truck to begin with, if it had a automatic transmission. I like the ability to look at a scan tool and see as much info as possible, so I just like having that donor ls NSS ( I refer to it as a PRNDL) switch working correctly. They can be bypassed and programmed out of the ecm. I do bypass it in the vehicle being swapped once I have all my wiring done. Eliminating the older wiring and working with the newer. I hope that makes sense. Jerry
@@UglyTruckExperience Thanks for the response! So if you use the donor NSS do you have to wire anything into the old truck wiring? Also what do you do for the shift linkage? Modify it to work with the factory shifter and NSS or is there a kit that needs to be purchased to make it work?
Question about the vss. Where do you get your signal from? I’m using a 700r4 4x4 and was curious about how I will get this signal or if it’s needed. Thanks a lot
Hello Benjamin. We have not done the 700r4 transmission on a swap and I am not sure if the VSS is something that can be tuned out of it. I will send a message to the guy that programs our computers tomorrow and see what he has to say. The engine uses the speed and whatever gear it is in to come up with calculated load and make adjust from that info. We have done 4L60e transmissions and then had to convert a mechanical VSS to electrical for that reason. I will get back to you with what I find out. Jerry
@@UglyTruckExperience thanks a lot. It’s my first swap and I love your channel. Super helpful and this video even more because I have a 2001 5.3L. Thanks for all you do
Hey Benjamin, here's the response from the programmer: "A vss is a good idea for improved drivability and idle control. Some will require it like DBW engines or you can get stalling conditions coasting to a stop. If the 700r4 has a factory vss it will likely work, if it has cable drive speed sensor, you can use the Dakota digital sen-01-4160 inline speed sensor."
Hello BG. You could do it like that also. It would work either way. Doing it by moving f2 to my power source just eliminates me having to run another wire. Thanks for watching and commenting. We appreciate it. Jerry

Thanks Jimmy! You should just have to swap those two pink wires that we showed in this video 26:02 to power up your 4L60E. Keep us posted on your swap! We appreciate you tuning in! --Emily and Jerry
So the c100 and c152 from the wiring harness really are useless for hooking up the 4l60e? And all you do is swap out the 2 pink power wires in place where the rear o2 went in the c2 connector? And thank you for the video, very pleasant to watch.
Thanks Grease Fire! Yep, that should be all you need to do to power up your transmission solenoids. If you tell me what your donor was, I can look up a diagram and confirm it if you like. We appreciate you tuning in! --Emily
Just in time! I'm wiring my swap this weekend. (02 lm7 to 87 v10) I'm not afraid of wiring but it is so much faster and easier to copy you than study all those diagrams!! Thanks!!
Thanks Kev! Our daily driver right now is a 74 C20 with a 350. What it lacks in horsepower, it makes up for in fuel consumption! 🤣 Thanks for watching!
Great Video Guys. Im doing a 87 chevy 5.3 and 2wd 4l80e swap. I have some questions ab the trans maybe you could point me to another vid or answer. first what trans are you using in the video? I watched a conversion video from Godspeed and his harness from a 4L60 to 4L80e swap. he changed pins on the PCM and the VSS sensors on the trans plug. BUT he never tied it into the rear 02 ports like you did to give it power. My rear 02 sensors will be removed from my pcm. How do I make my trans work!?
I got a 73 ford f350 i want to do a engine swap in. Ive never done a ls swap. I think this would be a good candidate for one. Rats ate all the wiring in the truck. So im going to get a wiring harness for it. Love to hear your input and what you think.
Hey Tray! We think that sounds like an awesome idea! You might find some folks in our Facebook group UTX: Swap Talk that can give you some specific pointers, but once you have your original wiring fixed, wiring the LS should be pretty similar to this video. Is the transmission wiring the same for a 2000 Gmc Sierra SLE with 4L60E transmission, how about the torque converter wire?. I'm working on a 1971 Gmc truck.
Hello Jesus! Yes, we just looked at a wiring diagram, and transmission wiring is the same. For your torque converter, you'll just need to supply power in Run and Start to pin 33 on C1 on the PCM. It is a purple wire. Hope this helps, and best of luck on your swap! Thanks for watching! --Emily and Jerry
Hello Eduardo. Just replace that resistor wire with a normal 14 awg or 12 awg wire starting from the block at the firewall. We own a 76 also. I would love to do a swap on it. Thanks for watching. Jerry and Emily
You guys are awesome and I love the keeping the video footage of it not starting the first time cause we all like to know that we’re all human… quick question though … is the obd2 plug wiring the same as 2002 and the 2005 thanks

Hello Dave. We have not done a OBS truck yet. We are keeping our eye out for one for sure. The wiring of the OBS would be similar to this for sure but not exactly the same. Jerry.
I have a 2000 gmc with 5.3 will the wiring be the same and will I be still do 4 wires to run it and what kind of fuel pump did u run or do I have to change my tank
Hello Oliver. The 2000 GMC will be the same as this when it comes to the wires that we talked about in this video to get it running. I used a Holley Sniper 19-369 pump on this truck. Whether or not you have to change the tank depends on what you are swapping into. Thanks. Jerry
Ls1 geniii blue green ecu connectors dbw not shirting no speedo issue. Can you please explain power to transmission from ecu plug or from 406le connector. As fuse boxes u doing not the same boxes. So gather needs power to shift stuck in 1st gear.
I like the ecu mounted behind (or even UNDER?) the seat. I always tend to run atleast a 10” subwoofer in my cars so I can really enjoy my music. There’s so much room under the C10 seat…in my Subaru swap, the ecu is under the back seat, opposite the battery. I installed the OBD2 port in the lower kick panel. I did run a small dedicated 6fuse panel next to the ECU, and another 6fuse,/6 relay panel under the trunk to power the radiator fans, BIG driving lights, horns, etc. The car body itself has its own Painless wiring style fuse box under the dash for everything else the car needs. Can’t stand the old school fuses VWs use. Yanked all that mess out and wired the car from scratch!
Oh boy, you'd get a kick out of the "sound system" in my 70... It has a really nice Custom Autosound receiver, two 15 year old speakers rolling around under the seat that we pulled out of the back of a work van, and a $10 bluetooth adapter. 🤣 I'm surprised there's room for a 10" sub in a VW! Thanks for tuning in, Jon! --Emily

Swapping 6.0 in 85 c10 n using msd 6014 box ,can I use the old distributor coil wire for my keyed 12v source, stuck the multimeter on it n key off it has nothing n key on it has 12.66 to 12.77
You need to run your fuel pump from it's own power source from the battery and make sure it is turned on by the ECM. You wouldn't want a fuel pump to be running with key on. You need it to prime when the key is turned to the run position and then only run when the engine is actually running. Whatever you are using for a ECM should control the fuel pump relay. Jerry
Ok so I’m to the alternator now n tryn to get it to charge the battery, can I use the trucks old alternator wires to send a signal to tell it to charge the battery? I know I can use the L pin on the ls alternator plug n a resistor so what do I hook that wire to to get it to work with charging the battery?
Well, my son had to go back to college and does NOT want me working on it without him. Ordered some parts and will hit it again on spring break. I will send you a video of if driving hopefully. I did get your knife cut out and handles casted. It will still be a few months before it is finished though. I do look forward to some gen 4 content. Hope you are doing well. @@UglyTruckExperience
You guys are great at making videos …I hope they are paying you guys good cause it’s a lot of good info … when swapping the ls in the old trucks old stuff like …didn’t they run a voltage regulator in the old truck what did y’all do about that kinda stuff after the motor runs and the trans shifts … did u have to do anything on the means of a speedometer now ….
Hello Kenneth. I'm not sure who they are but I really hope they do start paying us soon. That would be nice. The charging system from the LS takes over all of the old charging system. We normally use the donor harness and we don't have to change anything with that system. Most of the trucks we do end up with Dakota Digital dash for speedometer, but when they don't , we use a box that converts from electrical to mechanical to run the original speedometer. Thanks. Jerry
I'm not sure why you needed to move wires in C2 block to get power to your transmission. Didn't it already have a power supplied to the transmission being it was the original harness with the engine, Thanks you do great videos
That is a great question Eric. For some reason the transmission gets it's power from the interior fuse block which is never kept or used on a ls swap for the most part. Looking at the wiring diagrams, someone would see the power coming from a fuse block and just assume it is the fuse block that is under the hood. They also refer to the connector as C1 which is even more confusing. The very first swap we did tricked me and I spent a few hours looking at that diagram before I noticed it. Thanks for your comment and we appreciate you watching. Jerry
Hello Jay. It depends on what state you live in on what you will need to do for emissions and what you are swapping. When I send them to the programmer I ask him to remove what emissions that I do not need. The ECM will continue to make all of the emissions work correctly, but just will not turn on a check engine light for that emission. Hope this makes sense. Jerry

You guys are the best at this stuff … Well can I pay you to tell me what wires I would need to hook up from my 1984 dodge d150 originally a 318. I have swapped in a 5.3/4L60e… 2002 harness computer and I will PayPal you if you can tell me what wires to use… for example when you say the starter wire coming out of the Chevy mine is coming off the starter relay on my dodge …. I’m desperate as I have tried using your diagram and just switching it to the 84 dodge wiring but… I’m having trouble with the starter wire cause dodge has there’s coming off a starter relay on the inner fender and that the starter relay is where all the neutral safety switch comes in from the from the old set up … am I suppose to do away with all that …. I know it’s only a few wires but ? I ll pay cause it’s about to cause me to go with a custom harness and I don’t want to go that route I really like what you guys do … let me know how much and …. What do you think …

Thanks!!
Awesome! 🤘 Let us know how it goes!! --Emily and Jerry
Love your square body mine still has the 400 small block.
What year is your donor harness and PCM? Jerry
The Engine, Harness and PCM are all a 2000 Chevy Silverado
I got a 73 ford f350 i want to do a engine swap in. Ive never done a ls swap. I think this would be a good candidate for one. Rats ate all the wiring in the truck. So im going to get a wiring harness for it. Love to hear your input and what you think.
Hey Tray! We think that sounds like an awesome idea! You might find some folks in our Facebook group UTX: Swap Talk that can give you some specific pointers, but once you have your original wiring fixed, wiring the LS should be pretty similar to this video. Be sure to keep us posted! Thanks for watching! --Emily and Jerry
@@UglyTruckExperience thanks...
Thank You for this video!!!❤ doing a 2001 5.3 swap in my 81 Camaro and tried copying off my son's 2003 swap we did last year and nothing was working. Followed you along on this video and Bam!! Fire 🔥 in the wire!! Thanks Again 😊
Just a couple years can make a big difference! We're glad you got it running. We have a 75 Camaro we'd like to swap one day. Thanks for tuning in! Enjoy your swap! --Emily and Jerry
Thanks!! I like watching your videos. @@UglyTruckExperience
Hi, I’m doing a LQ9 swap into my 76K 10 but mine has a resistor wire. How can i Connect to the original fuse box
Hello Eduardo. Just replace that resistor wire with a normal 14 awg or 12 awg wire starting from the block at the firewall. We own a 76 also. I would love to do a swap on it. Thanks for watching. Jerry and Emily
@@UglyTruckExperience ok thanks a lot u guys help me a lot with your videos
You guys are awesome and I love the keeping the video footage of it not starting the first time cause we all like to know that we’re all human… quick question though … is the obd2 plug wiring the same as 2002 and the 2005 thanks
Thanks Kenneth! We like to keep it real! Mistakes happen, and we think it's important to show it. The OBD2 should be the same, but what's the make and model on your 2002? I'll look at a wiring diagram and make sure. We appreciate you watching our stuff! --Emily and Jerry
@@UglyTruckExperience it’s a 02 seirra … fuse block … and a 411 ecm … harness … I’m assuming is the same
Yes, it is the same. I hope we have helped. Keep us posted on your progress. Jerry and Emily
@@UglyTruckExperience thank you so much
Have you done any obs trucks ? Would it work similar ?
Hello Dave. We have not done a OBS truck yet. We are keeping our eye out for one for sure. The wiring of the OBS would be similar to this for sure but not exactly the same. Jerry.
@UglyTruckExperience I just bought a donor 01 Yukon Denali 6.0 . Will be swapping it over into my 89 Dually Obs. Thanks for all your great videos!!
Hey Richard, this video should help you out. th-cam.com/video/FDF76UCmB4c/w-d-xo.html Thanks for tuning in! --Emily and Jerry
--Emily
@@UglyTruckExperience Got you beat! First car was my grandmothers ‘75 Vega and I installed an 8 track player that was so big, it was in a “center console” made out of 2x6s. The speakers were sourced from my grandfather’s old console radio(imagine a fridge laying on its side). It was as impressively horrible a sight as it sounds. I was 13, but that was the start of my automotive journey!
🤣🤣 I think you missed your calling!!

Hey just stumbled on ur channel while looking for engines and saw a old vid of yall doing a ls swap for a 1986 chevy c10. I was curious if yall work on ppls trucks and such as i do have a 1986 chevy c10 stepside i have had from highschool back in 04 and wanting to get it back to a former glory.

what do you use for a scan tool? Thx
Hi Cody, we use AllData for our shop program, and this is a bluetooth scanner and tablet they sent us. Thanks for tuning in!
Are you going to hook up OBD2 port? Great video!
Yep, we'll be sure to have a video on that! Thanks for tuning in! --Emily and Jerry
Thank you. Appreciate your help.
Good morning, where do you find the wiring diagrams you be using
Hi Ernest, we use AllData for all of our diagrams and shop info, but the full version is pretty pricey. They have a much cheaper version called AllDataDIY that gives you all the info you need on one specific vehicle, which is perfect for a swap. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching! --Emily

I like working on everything myself but if I need advice could I pay for advice if needed 1971 c10 I have a 2004 chevy 2wd donor with very high mileage but I have a 1999 5.3 block with low miles
i though 99-02 was cable driven how do you have electric pedal?
There are some out there, but most of the earlier LS's were cable. I believe this donor was a Yukon Denali. Thanks for watching!
Would this work for a c10 1972 donor motor from a 2005 suburban
Hello Juan. Here is a link to video that would be the wiring for a 2005. Thanks. Jerry and Emily. th-cam.com/video/kt9GFJApd-A/w-d-xo.html
Great video! Very informative as usual.

Swapping 6.0 in 85 c10 n using msd 6014 box ,can I use the old distributor coil wire for my keyed 12v source, stuck the multimeter on it n key off it has nothing n key on it has 12.66 to 12.77
Hey Brian. Yes you can. The 85 had a HEI that received all the juice. No resistor wire was used. Jerry
@@UglyTruckExperience thnx for the help, just wanted to double check.can I run the fuel pump off tht wire with it?
You need to run your fuel pump from it's own power source from the battery and make sure it is turned on by the ECM. You wouldn't want a fuel pump to be running with key on. You need it to prime when the key is turned to the run position and then only run when the engine is actually running. Whatever you are using for a ECM should control the fuel pump relay. Jerry
@@UglyTruckExperience ok thnx,it’s a Holley red pump tht goes outside the tank
Ok so I’m to the alternator now n tryn to get it to charge the battery, can I use the trucks old alternator wires to send a signal to tell it to charge the battery? I know I can use the L pin on the ls alternator plug n a resistor so what do I hook that wire to to get it to work with charging the battery?
You two are great. Love the content.
Thanks Aaron! How's the Blazer coming along?
Well, my son had to go back to college and does NOT want me working on it without him. Ordered some parts and will hit it again on spring break. I will send you a video of if driving hopefully. I did get your knife cut out and handles casted. It will still be a few months before it is finished though. I do look forward to some gen 4 content. Hope you are doing well. @@UglyTruckExperience
Nice job
Thanks. Jerry
I hope that you guys remember me when you guys get a million subs
Of course we will! 😀
Thanks you guys are awesome.
Thanks so much, Greg!
Jerry
good morning 🙏
Hi Alonso!
Another great video...
Thanks for tuning in, Scott!
What emissions is it you don't need
