- Hi Guy's, welcome to this video where we explore the beautiful village of Punta Allen within the SIAN KA'AN biosphere reserve a UNESCO world heritage site of 1.3 million acres in the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico.
This is not the easiest place to get to. Access is via the end of the beach road in Tulum town and then your journey really begins!! It took us two and a half hours to drive the rustic road to the village from Tulum. The road is full of potholes and we only averaged speeds of 10 to 30 KM per hour. Is the drive worth it? Watch and see.
We spent two nights in the village and our accommodation was located only a few feet from the beautiful Caribbean Sea where we woke up each morning to a wonderful sunrise. On day two we hired a private boat to explore the Lagoon and then out to the Caribbean Sea to spot wildlife and snorkel. One can see many different animals, birds and sea creatures on this eco tour. These tours are considered wild in that there are no animals in captivity and you are relying solely on your guide to spot Dolphins, Manatee's and sea Turtles to name but a few. Thank God Punta Allen hasn’t been wrecked! I have watched with sadness as Tulum went from an outpost where you could rent a palapa to camp near the beach to an overcrowded, expensive zoo. Hopefully they will never fix that road.

Awesome video! We're heading to Punta Allen next November to check off the hubby's bucket list item of fishing in Punta Allen. We're thinking we'll rent a car so I've been really trying to get a true sense for the road (have heard horror stories!). Our dream is to retire in Mexico also but for now, we're living vicariously through you!! 😃

Wow guys that looked amazing....we would absolutely love that area what a great adventure and you were so fortunate to see so much wildlife...totally agree you need to have an understanding that it is a natural setting for the wildlife they are not "on show" they are just in their natural habitat sometimes if your really lucky you can see them sometimes you don't take it al in stride!!...That baby dolphin was amazing!!!...we would have to rent a car to go there when we come but I think it would be worth it!! Thanks for the video we never considered going there but we will now!!..Viv

thanks for the wonderful tour! we are headed to akumal soon and are wondering if you need to drive to Punta Allen to get the boat tours? Do you know if you can get those boat tours closer to the Muyil entrance of Sian Ka'an?
Hi, yes from memory you can certainly arrange a tour from Muyil. We actually did a video on Muyil and had a guide for the tour of the ruins. The guide also does boat tours and speaks excellent English. He is an expert on Birds and will tell you all the names etc. I believe we linked his contact details in the video. We would highly recommend this guide his name is Eddie and you can find him at the Muyil ruins. If Eddie can't take you on the tour himself he will get you sorted out with a decent guide.

Hi Nathan, Glad you enjoyed the video - thanks so much. I’ve dropped the link to the boat we stayed in and also the fisherman lodges website. It gives all their rates. Breakfast was included with the stay and we found dinners reasonably priced (also considering they have to boat in or drive in groceries) I hope this info helps.

We didn’t rent a car in Tulum (it is our own car that we own we drove)
