  • For many the name Niederegger is synonymous with marzipan and the northern German city of Lübeck. The company's logo even features the city's famous Holsten Gate. Niederegger is a family business now in its seventh generation.
    Times have changed since the company was founded in 1806, but their recipe for marzipan remains the same. Owner Holger Strait says the secret is in the rose water. What he's unwilling to reveal is Niederegger's turnover, which is estimated to be somewhere between 100- and 200 million euros a year. Strait is proud to admit that the firm, which employs some 500 permanent staff and 200 seasonal workers, has never made a loss. Joachim Eggers paid a visit to Niederegger, exporter of marzipan to over 40 countries.

    I spent my childhood in Germany. As an Air Force dependent during the 50s. I love the marizapan fruits at Christmas.

      There are marzipan, almond paste
      and pure almond butter.
      I like homemade almond butter,
      at least I know the ingredients.
      Anything processed in factories has added ingredients to preserve it or make it more profitable.

    I've only ever had the Mexican marzipans (De la Rosa) since I was a child. Had no idea they were made of almonds or manufactured until now. Good video

      That's made with peanuts instead of almonds

    • @allidolphin711
      @allidolphin711 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve tried both and they are very different. In my opinion I think almond marzipan is better then Mexican marzipan which is apparently made out of peanuts. But some may think otherwise.

    Obviously all countries that love marzipan have something in common, especially when it's a typical Christmas sweets. I love marzipan, especially made in Toledo Spain. I was just going to eat some almond Stollen pieces, made in Germany. Made shaped like little pigs in Austria, for Christmas.

    • @anaibarangan4908
      @anaibarangan4908 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know that has Al Andalus origins in Spain, and made into figurines that are toasted on top. Why I love those from Toledo Spain. Then there's all other sweets for Christmas, that definitely have middle eastern and Turkish origin.

      And my grandmother used to send us the little pigs every year. She lived in Vienna. I savored every bite.

    I went to the Niederegger Cafe in Lubeck many times when I visited family in Germany. The cakes were amazing but I do not like marzipan at all. Lubeck is such an underrated city. It is so beautiful and so are the surrounding areas.

      In my opinion Ritter sport is pretty good. You can get it from most big grocery stores H-E-B, Walmart might have it it’s pretty easy to find if you have any good grocery stores where you live. I live in Texas so it might be different for u.

      Google and find out where it might be sold in your area. I do have this brand available. It is expensive and can't justify the cost for a frivolous treat.
      Learned to make my own, which is a lot more budget friendly.
