Last year I installed a 'Qettle' (spelled without a 'u') for a customer. It was about half the price of the Quooker, was just as easy to install and is British made. Customer continues to be very happy with it.
Tough time at work but Gary's smile helped to brighten my day

Bad Robot
The tap itself can have an additional filtered water device as well. The only change is a t piece off the hit vessel and another low voltage lead that connects in the back of the vessel to tell the hot tank vessel to shut off when calling for filtered water.
They are clever but very expensive.

I was very surprised and disappointed to see him use mdf skirting boards i was expecting to see oak veneer skirting boards and then oil them.

Oh yeah I want to get rid of the kettle on the side , spend a grand on a poxy tap , but leave the toaster and the magic mix cluttering up the worktop and that’s ok 🤷🏼♂️

I have a Quooker tap. It's not cheap but it works well and we are very pleased with it. The Quooker tap will change the way you do things in the kitchen for the better. Like you we chose the hot/cold/boiling water option but with a seven litre tank. The larger tank gives you enough water for an instant start to cooking; it's not just about tea and coffee. It's one of the best purchases we have made. Top tip - In a few years you may have a little puddle of water under the sink you can't find the source of. It will come from open end of the pressure relief valve tube. The cause will probably be the build up of muck in the pressure relief tube at the waste end in the main sink waste. Blow the crap in the pipe through to solve the problem.

fitted my own one of these but in black a couple of months ago - Also went for the chilled filtered and Sparking options - have to say its amazing
Just a quick note Robin - the condensation hose should be looped to form a water trap which stops any smells coming through and also might be worth considering a water softener system which will stop any limescale build-up in the tank and also protect your worktop - great video as usual 👍

i fitted a quooker fusion tap last year. had a couplea problems with it but mostly it was because the lass had moved the box with the tap connector reducers in it... went all over south shields trying to find 15-12mm reducers haha. eventually cobbled something together and got it all working..... then found the box with the right parts in. The tap is still working class after a year and the lass loves it
“Installation was really quite simple”. Not as simple as plugging in a kettle though.
I find it hard to believe if this is keeping the water boiling hot for ready use ,that's more efficient than boiling 1 cup of water in a kettle when you require it
My 3kw boils 1 cup of water in 32 seconds and it's using zero energy at all other times

I fitted my first one of these last week, must say I was very impressed with it.
After a bit or research I went for the Quooker tap last year, really happy with it, no regrets and a well made tap in its own right

Word of warning. If you fit it under a Belfast sink you won't have enough space so you'll have to cut a hole the diameter of the tank in the base of the unit to accommodate the tank.

Fine and dandy if you do not have hard water - otherwise a maintenance headache and the service kits are not at all cheap.
With a permanent boiling pressure vessel under the sink, I think a child lock might be in order for the cupboard.
Get the anti scale filter by quooker which fits along the vessel.
Chris Taylor Yeah true £90 per copy and £80 cartridge replacement every 6 months. Believe me the maintenance costs (even DIY) are just not worth the candle in a hard water environment. You could buy an £80 kettle every year and still be well ahead of the game.

I installed a £2000 set up for the clients to use a kettle after 6months because they didn’t like the spluttering when calling for boiling water.
Now they only use it for the filtered water 🙄
I've regularly used both qooker and one of the cheaper manufacturers' taps, and despite looking shitter, the cheaper one was a far better experience. The qooker was extremely spurty and continued fractionally too long after turning off the tap. Quooker have the patent on boiling tap, hence why the others are only 99 degrees, but the extra degree makes zero difference (well, 1, but you know what I mean). If your budget is tight, I wouldn't go the extra mile for the quooker, it's not worth it.

@@paulgo1146 annoyingly, I can't remember. Both taps were in two different offices I went to every week for a few years. Lockdown means I haven't been back! I had a colleague who swore by the one she got from Costco, as we talked about it at the time. Once again, I unhelpfully can't remember that make either! Not much use really! Apologies.

I have fitted two Grohe Red combined BWTs and they are excellent. It is true that the water temperature measured at the outlet of the tap is not 100C ( actually about 98.5) but by the time you put it into a cup or teapot it will have reduced anyway due to the much cooler vessel and its thermal inertia. Before the second Grohe I tried another, only marginally cheaper, brand which was hopeless and I sent it back and exchanged it for the Grohe. It seems that these taps are of two main types. Some, like the Grohe, hold the water in the tank at pressure and these work better as the valve controlling the flow is on the outlet. Others, like the other one I tried, have the tank at atmospheric pressure with the valve on the inlet so there is a significant delay both before water comes out of the spout and after you close the tap when water continues to flow. I have reservations about the safety of the latter type as well as if the thermostat fails and the tank boils it will vent boiling water out of the spout. The pressurised type will vent into the drain via the relief valve and tundish which is much safer.
The Grohe is about half the price of the Quooker!
PS I have to agree with Robin about the colour. It looks great in his kitchen and blends really well with the green doors and the very smart handles. Maybe bronze for the handles might have been better than brass.
Interesting comments, guys. There are a very small number of taps that dispense truly boiling water - i.e. 100C. QETTLE is one of them. We agree that it's definitely wise to read the small print - that 1C really does make a difference - especially if you want to make a 'proper cuppa'! QETTLE's clever 4 in 1 design is globally patented.
I'm disabled with only one restricted weak arm and as such cannot lift a Kettle. I purchased a Quooker as it seemed a massive help to me as all I had to do was turn the tap. to me, this was life changing and although it's overdue a service, it has lasted 6yrs now and still going strong. It's not as pricey to run as people think, but even so, I have mine on a WiFi alexa plug, so it's programmed to come on & turn off as and when needed. Very highly recommend them. Only wish I could afford the hot and cold version with a nicer looking tap. Hayho, am happy with what i've got though for the time being.

The Franke Minerva also boils to 100°C but the tank is about 5ltrs and only 135mm high so it fits behind the plinth & free's up the space in the sink cupboard 👍

I've had a Quooker for years and despise the thing!!! It needs servicing annually (sometimes more frequently) £150 if you want Quooker to do it or FOC DIY. New filter is £30, and service kit (foc normally). Depending how hard your water is, that cylinder will be full of scale inside a year, oh and the anti scale units don't work great and have been known to burst apparently. If it sucks scale into the tap, new tap head £100+. Coupled with the initial outlay of £800+ depending upon model - I start to tick when i think how many kettles I could've bought by now! Word of advise guys, don't get one - as my Mrs wont let me get rid of the bloody thing now! Every time it has an issue I make an effort to get rid, and shes having none of it !!!!!!!! Enjoy Robin...... :-)

Good feedback. Every plumber knows that the closer you get to boiling the more scale will be deposited. There is no way around it but to remove the scale on a regular basis. Just look at how long an instantaneous shower lasts in a hard water area before it scales up and that is only heated for a few minutes a day to around 60 deg cent.They give a warranty but it doesn't cover scale.
Skill Builder in any normal tank water scenario people should be installing water softeners to combat this. As you said boiling water is another task altogether. Pays your money.
@@christaylor5291 You should not put a softner on a drinking supply. These units are horrendous in hard water areas and, incidentally they are illegal to fit in the U.K.
@Roger Bisby hi, fully aware not install on drinking water. Perhaps I didn’t explain. Any normal storage tank water scenario that you wash in and appliances, water softener is a great investment to battle scale on bath/kitchen brassware.

Word of warning, ballofix valves are notoriously unreliable (leak, jam, break etc), do yourself a favour and get Gary back and have him fit lever valves throughout the house (Pegler PB300 are pretty good) trust me you'll thank him for it in years to come. Every time I move house its one of the first jobs I do.

not sure about how i felt about water dripping out of the relief down the tundish everytime it starts to heat up but obviously it needs a fair bit to equate to expansion

Your kitchen is looking absolutely stunning Robin, I am in the process of selecting a sink and tap for a quartz countertop we are getting fitted, I think your double sink fits nicely and leaves a healthy amount of strength at back and front. Can you tell me the measurements of your top, front to back, and the size of your sink. Your tap would be out of the question but we were looking at an ordinary tap of similar colour. Hope you can help Robin.

We have one of these at place of work, there's around 100 employee's and it probably gets used 300 times a day minimum. In 12 months its probably only gone wrong once, they're extremely expensive for what they are and I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone getting it for home use unless you've got a fat wallet... But they're very impressive bits of kit and very reliable.
At a work place with that many employees, it would pay for it self but to get the return on it in a domestic environment is asking some.

Do you think the angle of elbows used in the plumbing are too tight ? Like food might get stuck in there easier than if you used a more open elbows , if u get what I mean

Hi Robin. It's a lot to pay to replace a kettle. Also my gran told me that tea should always be made with freshly drawn water. This boiling water may have stood overnight before you use it. Mind i suppose if i had your money, i would probably do the same. It really sets of your kitchen. Your wife will love it.

Very expensive but good taps. Becoming more popular with the kitchens I fit and to my knowledge no one has regretted having one fitted. You'll never recoup the price difference on life time of kettles but to some thats not the point.

I’ve installed loads of these and the different types they do. Personally I don’t think they are as hot as a kettle. People who use these to fill a pan of water baffles me, maybe for gas but the fact that an induction job can boil a ltr of water in a minute approx.
The standby charge a day is approx 2p a day I believe.

Nottingham Forest Forever I thought this but after running one for six months I can vouch for how good they are. The water never tastes like stale water can do in a sink 👍
If the water is stored under pressure in the tank there is no air above it as long as it was properly vented during installation so it should stay just as fresh as bottled water which has a long shelf life
We have an oil cooker and if you take tea from it, it's tastes way better than straight from the electric kettle. I wonder if this would be the same.

Apart from aesthetics in regard to the top, the tank is more nice to have than a need, considering its sole job is boiling water, regardless hkw thats done.

Very hot water tap. First had one in 2009 and so many people stuck their fingers under the tap and burnt themselves.

Hodge-podge of materials in that kitchen. Going to regret mirror backsplash methinks - every water spot/splatter going to show. Rather have separate hot water spout so can choose nicer fixtures.

The overflow pipe can give a lot of trouble, it should have it's own waterlock instead of the little plug, there is a real risk of leakage and backflow of greywater, The solution they came up with for the overflow, a plastic hose and the attachment you drill into your main drainpipe, is finicky at best. I've been called in to fix quite a few installation issues, the grounding is also...not perfect. Even without the device itself malfunctioning there are all kinds of potential issues. Stick a bucket in the cabinet and you might just break the little nubend off the pipe or uncoil the hose, now you have a leak not only from your how water overflow, but from any wastewater that goes into the pipe - it's usually the dishwasher deciding to flood the premises while you're out. On top of that, everyone I've talked to who has one has burned their hands at some point. I'd never recommend. But hey, convenience.

It’s like the whole 3D TV saga. Everyone had to have it and 5 years later it was obsolete. The tech in these taps will filter down to saucepans and kettles in a few years. Mark my words you will be able to buy a kettle that will boil water in 10 seconds in the near future.

They arent always overhanging the sink. Sometimes set back or flush.
