He has stopped making videos due to some personal problems. He has arthritis. His wife died in 2016 or 2017. He said that in a video I think. His relationship with his adopted son or Step son isnt good. And they had issues. The guy had many personal issues going on hence he stopped making videos. Watching his videos was fun. But with the very low subscription and views there also isnt any money. Hence I guess he left the channel like many others. The first one was shavebusta then Nothern shaver then Nick shaves and the list goes on. However some wet shavers are still making videos that's pretty good. Recently Michael also stopped making videos.
HI John I hope you are well. Just crossed to your videos this weekend and I am loving the content of all of them and learning a lot. I hope you do more videos soon. All the best
Hello John! New subscriber here. Have been wet shaving for longer than I care to mention, and I can't believe I haven't stumbled upon your channel until now. Have been binge watching for hours, and it feels like I'm chatting with an old friend. Thanks for the content!
Good morning John! Happy Saturday!! I am truly enjoying this series. You did say upfront that this series was an overview and you would be highlighting, so those negative comments are uncalled for. Gillette had two things dialed in. 1) Razors that worked on 97% of faces shaved...close, comfortable, shaves. 2) Maximizing profitability...first by using bait (razor) and hook (blades) sales strategy, then protecting their products via patents and updating the patents to the next improvement to stay ahead of the competitors. Of course, Gillette had a marketing campaign that was second to none. To me, the best shaving razor of this period is the New Norfolk (short comb, common bar handle). The corner teeth on the one I had were bent...so I traded for a pre-war Fat Handle Tech. The Tech does indeed shave nicely, but I fully agree it doesn't seem to do as well as a daily shaver. I could feel as few rough patches no matter how many passes. 3 days worth of growth, it delivers a BBS. YMMV. I do love the Aristocrats. I have the 1946/47 US and a #16 British. I don't think I can afford a 1934 US. Again, thank you so much John.
For me that's part of the appeal of these Vintage Gillette razors. There's a legitimate history with each razor. The other aspect I really enjoy is the quality, craftsmanship of these razors the fact that these razors are in some cases 70,80 years old, and can still be used is very attractive to me.
Haha. Give em an inch and they want a mile. I only discovered your fine channel April 2019 and I am really enjoying this series. Thank you again and cheers!
True gentleman! Enjoying these video and looking for part 3. Might I suggest that the intro/outro music is lowered a bit, it is very loud compared to the sound in the video so it can shock once in a while - like a brass band blowing your head of. Liked and subscribed
Thank you, John. This Gillette history is so interesting. I have watched part one and two several times since you brought them out. I''m eager to see the next parts. You are doing a good job, like all your videos. Thanks again. Greetings, Patrick (Switzerland)
Another informative video! And true trying to explain every Gillette razor would be wayyyy too much for anyone...so many different kinds! Right now I'm into using my old type, and maybe looking to get a 1904 version. Ps. Awesome that you tried the advice, and the fact that u read the my comment is all that matters to me. Thank you!
Great video as usual! I had a blade in my pre-war tech when the video started. By the end my New LC is locked and loaded for my daily shave. Keep up the good work!
I really like the 1934 Gillette Aristocrat because I like an agressive shave and have a tough dark beard also love the history behind Gillette production keep them coming Big John all the best Jarryd.💈💈💈💈
John, people that knit pick about the most ridiculous things and who have nothing to do but criticize others for something they themselves are not doing or not providing the community with, are simply douchebags (excuse the harsh english lol). I always say, If they don't like what you're doing, then LEAVE... change the channel!! I appreciate that you've done this series. You're a great asset to the wet shaving community. Cheers!
In this video I used Croma Diamant blades. I use a variety since I've acquired several different ones over the years. Kai is my favorite, Treet Platinum, Croma Diamant are the ones I have the most of right now.
Hi John nice videos the long/short comb are my personal favourite DE Gillette razors, I personally find the long comb slightly more closer shaving than the short, both of my ones have The husky handles. Keep rocking the videos out!
Thanks John for the historical overview of Gillette razors. I am really enjoying this series on Gillette razors. So far the only Gillette Razor I have is a 1948 - 50 aristocrat and out of all my razors aristocrat is the razor I am currently using the most. out of all the Aristocrat razors produced which Aristocrat is your favorite? keep up the good work making good videos and I will keep watching them.
I would say the 1946 Aristocrat but sadly my near mint specimen mysteriously disappeared as did several other things of potential value around my house...long story. So that leaves in it's place my No 58 British 1956 Coronation Aristocrat or my well used 1948-50 Aristocrat
New to your channel and love your videos. I'm 28 and have gone on a vintage Gillette buying spree. Currently I have a short handled black beauty, a fat boy, a super speed flare, and a thin adjustable. Can you do a video discussing your fav soaps/creams.
I’m sorry to hear that Sir. Hopefully you can get back on track soon. I like your content and I’m going to subscribe anyways. Have a nice day...God Bless.
Oh no. Sorry to hear that brother! I hope he is able to get help and get passed that sickness. It's doesnt justify what he done but you hear of this far to often in today's age. It's sad they do it's worse that they do it to the ones that care for them the most. Sorry for my choice of words on first comment. I will delete it
what groups are you in that you have to deal with such nitpicky buffoons? not razor and brush, surely? your videos are great, john. you're doing people a favor of even doing these, thanks again
I have a Gillette razor from every decade and the other day a friend asked me "what is your favorite" I thought about it and replied "my 1912 single ring" best shave for me!
John: Thank you for these very interesting videos. One comment: You mentioned that Gillette made the Tech razor until the 1980's. But wasn't that just when Gillette ceased marketing the Tech in the U.S. As a practical matter, the Tech has never gone out of production, and overseas Gillette still makes the "Gillette 7 O'clock Stirling" razor in India, which is a Tech with a long, fully plastic, handle. (I have compared the head of the Stirling with a mid-1960s Tech, and I cannot tell any difference whatsoever.) In the early 2000s I purchased a Gillette Tech made in Argentina at a pharmacy in Charlottesville, Virginia, so there was, it seems, a general continuity of production for overseas markets. And of course, there are a number of non-Gillette knock offs of the Tech from China, India, Egypt, etc. I suppose this is understandable: the Tech's design is simplicity itself, and, as the video suggests, its form, fit, and function are outstanding.
The Stirling razor costs $10 and under in E-Bay, shipped. It might make an interesting video. Also, I have a Pearl travel razor, and the Tech or any of its knock offs fit he Pearl's handle. I'm thinking about including in the Pearl's case a Stirling head, just to give a milder alternative to the Pearl on the road. Anyway, thanks for the reply, and best wishes .
They are rare only being produce about 3 years. You just have to watch for them in the buy-sell-trade groups and on ebay. I'm sure they are also occasionally one that shows up in antique shops in the wild. Once obtained guys usually hold onto them, get them replated, etc. Like myself, I've thought about selling mine occasionally but the urge usually fades quickly.
Hello John, you don’t know me. But I have a insight for you that might be of some use for you! First of all I would like to remind you of Job. Secondly you need to be aware that the gift of knowledge you have received is not for yourself, harsh but true. Now my brother, remember my promise, we’re two or more shall be gathered in my name. There I shall be also. He shall wonder the earth looking for all that he can devour, but those who stand in the blood shall fear not, for i am the lord thy GOD. Which none has dominion over. Fear not my son, for i am at your right hand.
