@@sundancer06 well, no. It's not about quality of the FLIR that Aselsan produces. I don't even get where you would hear about Baykar insisting on using CATS FLIR. Aselsan's FLIR was already in development but it was not even properly tested. So it wasn't a ready-to-use product like you're trying to make it seem. Also Aselsan's product was not fit for use on a platform such as TB-2. Later on, they made it lighter.

There was aselflir before Canada embargoed it. But the reason why Baykar does not use it is not because it is new or worse. Canadian production was lighter and simpler in structure. aselflir was heavier and negatively affected the take-off and payload weight of the unmanned aerial vehicle. But Aselsan made this product lighter. also aselflir is better than its canadian counterpart. It has a factory built specifically for camera lenses. TB2 is cheaper than other unmanned aerial vehicles, gives the same effect, and bombs called Mam-L were produced specifically for it. These are light but high explosive bombs. One reason for their success is the bombs. Ukraine could not use these tools effectively, and it showed great success in Libya, Azerbaijan, and Syria and Iraq, which used American radar and air defense systems. We can say that it is a complete price performance product.

To akinci LALE(LONG altitude long endurance attack Uav)

In many military areas they have become independent and take their place in producer countries lists instead of buyers. Especially they have seen the importance of drones early on so they were one of the first on that era and their versions are probably most effective ones cuz they have been already tested in many wars in few years.
But there is still long road to go, only military techs are not enough. They still need to improve in many areas like industrial machines, medical machines, computer techs, engine techs and much more.
And also beyond that, space race is about to start again, this time there are many competitors like China, India Russia and Usa. If any country could find a way to start to a metoroid mining that country would economically boost.
So there are many different areas that a country should focus on. But ofc especially about these drone systems Turkey got the points.

It is.. They have a long way to go. Cheap products is something most western countries just simply cannot do due to economics.
You know what though? I'm happy they are investing in their own people. It is too easy to purchase other weapons and then it be a waste due to rapidly shifting geopolitics.
Like at Germany not being able to give AHEAD 35mm ammo due to Switzerland... That is ridiculous as that ammo is needed to fight exactly these type of cheaper flying drones Iran and Turkey are flying around.
Anyway it might not be the best. If may not be the most capable of have the most success per mission. However it was the best option for Ukraine and other countries who cannot afford something greater from others and is better than the competitors. So hats off to them.
Turkey needs to stop saying it has a fifth or sixth gen fighter that can take on everything with some mockup. That is just as embarrassing as Russian calling their newest fighter "Checkmate". Like homie you weren't even on the board anymore and can't field your current fighter.

  • @Yarenoglu
    @Yarenoglu 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +146

You missed a few details, Turkey always had a very good military production industry, ASELSAN, ROKETSAN, BMC, etc. But what drove them to produce the drones was this: Turkey wanted to buy Patriot air defence systems from the USA, but they refused to sell them for a long time, so Turkey bought S-400s from Russia instead, then the USA used that as an excuse to blockade Turkey from receiving the F-35 fighter jets, even though Turkey had already spent hundreds of millions of dollars for them. So after that Turkey decided to produce their own aircraft. They have made their own attack helicopters and tanks and rifles for a while, now Turkey is producing Hurjet and TF-X national fighter jet etc. which is 5th generation. So, among other military firms, Baykar was formed to get Turkey to Gen 5 aerospace technology. So Bayraktar drones were made with the thought "If the USA blocks us, then we will make our own for much cheaper." And thus Bayraktar drones were born. Bayktar is not the only drone manufacturer in Turkey either, now more and more of them are popping up all the time. Many of them are between testing and mass-production phases, such as Anka-3. Even Baykar has a few newer models which more than doubles many of the capabilities of TB2, such as the new TB-3. Also a brand-new model is almost ready to go into production called Kizilelma, which will be a turbojet-powered drone travelling just below the speed of sound designed for air-to-air combat.

@andrewrogers3067 the following is straight from the Wikipedia page:
The development of the Bayraktar TB2 had been spurred by a U.S. ban on exports of armed unmanned aircraft to Turkey due to concerns they would be used against PKK groups inside and outside Turkey.[11]
Baykar started developing a new combat tactical aerial vehicle system at the request of the Presidency of Defense Industries, after the experiences of its first tactical UAV, the Bayraktar Çaldıran or Bayraktar TB1, delivered to the Turkish army in 2011.[17] The Bayraktar TB2 made its maiden flight in August 2014.[18] On 18 December 2015, a video was published of a test firing of a missile from the Bayraktar TB2, a result of a collaboration with Roketsan. Roketsan's MAM and TUBITAK-SAGE's BOZOK laser-guided bombs were tested for the first time.[19][20]
      Components and technologies
The aircraft previously relied on imported and regulated components and technologies such as Rotax 912 engines[21] (manufactured in Austria) and optoelectronics (FLIR sensors imported from Wescam in Canada or Hensoldt from Germany). Bombardier Recreational Products, owner of Rotax, suspended delivery of their engines to certain countries in October 2020, after becoming aware of their military use despite being certified for civil use only.[21][22]
According to British newspaper The Guardian, the arming of the Bayraktar TB2 would not have been possible without the help of the UK Hornet micro-munitions bomb rack by EDO MBM Technology Ltd. The bomb rack was provided to Turkey in 2015, and a variant of it was integrated into the aircraft by EDO MBM and Roketsan.[23] In response to The Guardian newspaper article, Baykar Chief Technical Officer Selçuk Bayraktar denied that the bomb rack came from the UK. "We are not buying it from you, we never did. It not only does not work under any circumstances but is also very expensive", Bayraktar said on Twitter. "We have designed and manufactured a more advanced and cost-effective one ourselves."[24]
On 19 August 2020 the UK Department for International Trade (DIT) disclosed details of a six-year history of exports of the Hornet bomb rack to Turkey between 2014 and 2020, suggesting that supply of the critical technology to Turkey had continued well beyond the development stage of the Bayraktar TB2 and right up to the publication of the Guardian story in November 2019. 18 Standard Individual Export Licence (SIEL) applications were submitted by EDO MBM Technology between 2014 and 2020 for exports of goods 'related to Hornet Bomb Racks / Hornet Missile Launchers' for end-users in Turkey. Of these; 16 of the licences were granted.[25]
In October 2020 the use of the Canadian Wescam MX-15D system in the drone was disclosed after Armenian officials claimed that remains of a MX-15D system had been recovered from a downed TB2 drone during the nation's conflict with Azerbaijan. That triggered the stopping of MX-15D exports to Turkey while an investigation by Global Affairs Canada evaluates the use of Canadian technology in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.[26][27][28] Turkish industry responded to foreign sales boycotts by announcing provision of domestically manufactured alternatives including TEI PD170 engine (manufactured by TEI),[29][30] fuel valves and the CATS FLIR system (manufactured by Aselsan).[31] Integration tests with that system started on 6 November 2020.[32] Turkish defense industry researcher Kadir Doğan tweeted that cancellation of sales of components to Baykar by foreign companies did not pose a major problem, and that as of January 2021, all of those components have been replaced by locally manufactured alternatives.[33]

Military volunteer, CivDiv, has videos where he describes fighting against Turkey which deployed Bayraktars against his group. Then when he volunteered to go to Ukraine after the full scale invasion, he found himself fighting on the same side as the Bayraktars.
The Bayraktar also played a role in the sinking of the Moskva. It was used to distract air defenses as Neptune missiles slammed into the Moskva and eventually sank it.

In 2020 in Armenian held N-K there was a popular notion insinuated by Russia and the pro Russian Armenians that had Armenia been closer to Russia then they would have been able to prevent the TB 2 drones yet a little over a year later Russia invaded Ukraine and sent armour in parade like formation to be savaged by the same type of drones in Ukrainian service and this notion began to ring hollow

Russia is the reason why Turkey has issues with Armenia to begin with. Russian empire armed and organized Armenians to rebel, and invaded under the premise of "protecting Armenians" only to leave them alone to face the wrath of Ottomans alone. Later they sold it as a "genocide" to Armenians ignoring what they did during the invasion. And west bought it too, despite that fact that they refused it when Russia did exactly the same thing in Ukraine, invading under the premise of "protecting donbas region", claiming Ukraine killing Russians there. Ukraine killing Russians for sure now. But that is expected since west is barely any different to Russia, doing whatever benefits them most. Just look what is happening in Palestine.

Bayraktar TB2 is only of many technologies created in Turkiye. On Idef 2023 in Istanbul they showed an new radar technology what can see 600 km distance in 3D. For example stealth 🥷 F35 can be seen fully, they can even tell which model is flying, live in 3D. When this Turkish radar can see than another very very simple rocket 🚀 from ground to air platfrom knsimple car 🚗 can destroy F35, but also the F22 or any other flying machine. The software is so advanced that these deadly stealth machines maybe 🤔 can be targeted by bullets on pick up trucks 🛻 with machine guns guided by software automaticly.

    excellent video,
TB2 uses smart ammunition that has been developed and tested by Roketsan for ten years. It was successful against obsolete Russian air defense systems. Turkey has largely prepared its infrastructure for the technological weapons that it has not been able to buy from the USA for 20 years, now it has a medium-sized arms industry. This is also behind the success of TB2.

The scale of TB2 operations in Ukraine has been reduced. Because they are too vulnerable to AA systems. (Just like a Predator drone would be).
Though the TB2 is less expensive than alternatives, it is still too costly to risk in high danger areas.
Think the sweet spot for today are small recon drones, that are too small to be engaged by AA missiles, and resonable expendable.
When the target is found and location determained you zip in with a fast, maneuverable smallish drone (payload like 5kg). Fly in 5-10m hight and drop payload at full speed and getting out again.
This would give the target only a few sec. to do anything and because of hight and speed it would be invulnarable to AA and even manpads, only very fast reacting AAA guns would have a chance, and not that many of those around.

Radar systems you cannot, China would need to send their own crew or train up Russian soldiers in its use.

Akıncı was already out for years, tho, it's much more advanced compared to TB2. That's why, it won't be exported to everyone (especially US bootlickers)
TB3 is a naval drone, it is not especially more advanced than the TB2. It's specifically designed to take off from and land on aircraft carriers (or any ship that has an airstrip) such as TCG Anadolu.
If you're looking for more advanced drones made by Turkey, I'd suggest you check out Bayraktar Kızılelma and TAI ANKA-3.
Further, countries like Iran are absolutely incomparable to Turkey in terms of the level of technologies achieved and being manufactured. They can be busy with producing incapable fighter prototypes that cannot even taxi on an airstrip.
