In late 2020 Canon released the C70, a camera bridging DSLR video shooters with cinema camera users. It includes all of the features of the larger C300 Mark III (which shares the same sensor) in a smaller body that is more appealing to indie filmmakers. The camera uses Canon's latest lens mount, RF. The RF mount features a shorter flange depth allowing lenses from other mounts (like the more common cine lens mounts like PL or EF) to be easily adapted to it. It has features like a dedicated timecode port, user assignable buttons, built in ND filters, an array of audio ports, and Canon's full suite of monitoring tools.[10]
Damn….I can’t wait to get mine. Get busy, Fam!!
I bought a C70 used about 5 months ago coming from a C100 M2. I went in with both eyes open of its strengths and weaknesses. I don't own any RF lenses but the compatibility with EF is great. Built-in Audio, ND filters and Cooling fan are essential and you truly can't go back once you're had them! It has a lot to like, but Sony kicks it ass on autofocus, the super 35 sensor compared to full frame is not a low-light champ, and I agree the 4K out of this camera is not blazing sharp, but still very good. I don't like the build quality overall of the C70 compared to the C100 and don't get me started on the display hinge. The lack of even an optional EVF is a huge miss by canon IMHO.I can't believe that Canon would not offer one as an option on a camera clearly geared to documentary run-and-gun people like me. The C70 is a "odd duck" for sure, but it's a big step up in image quality for sure and it's a great transition camera to 4K for me. Sometimes I feel I've been foolishly loyal to Canon, but I love the color out of the camera and I'm not ready yet to sell my collection of EF glass at a huge loss to go to another system just yet.
It’s funny that you mention the c100 because the unboxing was all shot on the c100 mark 1 with DPAF. After getting the C70 I gave the C100 to my friend. I’m going to make a video explaining why. STAY TUNED YO
Great video man! I learned and laughed. Salute for not selling out!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Loving my c70 too, Rick.
False colour is brilliant.
Audio is spot on.

I’m used to using waveform. I definitely need to start using the false color.
Maybe you confused the EF-R adaptor with the interchangeable PL and EF mounts of the larger C cameras, which I think are screwed-in?
You’re probably right. I can’t confirm that because I haven’t looked into it. It would’ve been cool for a more permanent solution for EF lenses though.
The R5 MK II is coming out next month and the R5c prices are going to plummet because supposedly it's getting CLOG2
The R5C would make a great secondary/ backup for the C70. Does the R5 Mark II have internal NDs?
@@MrFox619sadly no. You need the EF to RF adaptor with the NDs if you want them.
