Thank you. You are the only video I have found who takes baby steps and not be so technical where you need an engineering degree. Thank you!!!!!
Glad I could help!
Another great video. You’re teaching so many people. Thanks!
Really appreciate that 🙏🏻 thank you!
The photos orientation thing is utter genius!
Thanks! I’m also doing it for TH-cam, Halide, and a few other apps
Well done, Stephen. Very helpful. I’m making a menu driven app “launcher” for my home screen right now. I’m working toward a focus driven home screen setup and this will definitely make that easier.
Thanks, appreciate it! Once you get it set that’s best for you, it’s a great method 💪🏼

loved the menu!!
Thanks! Really useful.
Great content, like the way you explain these shortcuts and help for us to create them with understanding, seen a few videos already just showing off a shortcut with QR codes to add them, much prefer understanding and creating my own. Keep it up buddy, look forward to more... subbed!
Thanks for saying so, and glad the walkthroughs are helpful! Will be making more like this for sure: th-cam.com/video/JP3IeQjWdK0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=AalexrPWFcW1OADm

My pleasure!
wow thank you so much this helped greatly and now my screen is not fill of folders :D nice!!!! so clean
You're welcome!
I really like your video. It is super useful. Thank you man :)
Glad it was helpful!
Great video on automations menu 😄. One great thing I found out is that if you enable both "Is Opened" and "Is Closed" and set it to "toggle" you won't have to create multiple automation for the same app (Just sharing a shorter method to avoid duplication).
That’s a great method for sure. I found sometimes if you open / swipe home too fast the toggle option gets confused
Maybe I just havent seen them, but I feel like youtube is lacking in shortcut tutorials. This stuff is great. it definitely takes a bit to learn the logic behind creating shortcuts. im also going to check out that guys catalog. Sounds like a goldmine.
Well I'm trying to fill the void! My playlist of all Shortcuts videos is here! th-cam.com/play/PLCnyeuWW0bgaj8ZykefmxpSLZYX9sHdlS.html&si=xcO5z6LmpMrkLefB
This is really good!
Appreciate it!
Nice! Shortcuts seem powerful. Can't wait to dig in.
Is there a file type and size requirement for app icons?
I typically use PNG at least 300 x 300
Thanks for this video.
You're welcome! Hope it helps
Do you have a video about organizing your favorites into those folders when you are typing into the menu bar at 14:06 in the video?
Great videos. Thanks
Appreciate it!
@@beardfmjust tell me how to turn off notifications for every shortcut
This tutorial has just earned you a new subscriber!
Welcome aboard! Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Thank you so much, now I can reach my Spotify quickly.
You're welcome! Glad it helped 🙏🏻
Great video, Stephen! Thank you. Is there a way to generate a QR code that deep links to Settings > Bluetooth?
Hm trying to do it. This is the URL scheme but it doesn’t seem like QR code scanning works with it: prefs:root=Bluetooth
Hey Stephen!! Do you already have automation on setting the car parked location?
You have made the shortcut process and convenient wow
Great to hear! And lots more Shortcuts video on the playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLCnyeuWW0bgaj8ZykefmxpSLZYX9sHdlS.html&si=V2pF8V-CfXMRjLKp
Yeah i have watch some already! Its made my 13 pro max better! Productivity
Oh I didn’t see the link so you have two separate for Shortcuts I’m definitely going to see the other one as well
FANTASTIC you are the best thank you very much , but how do I ad it to my homescreen? i have set it up to open up all my socials but cant get it on homescreen haha
Very nice video. Is it possible to create a shortcut in the Shortcuts app and then run the shortcut from say the "single press" of the Aqara mini button? I'd like to have multiple Aqara buttons run the same shortcut and hopefully not have to create the same action in different buttons.
Since I moved to HomeKit on all my stuff I have been watching a lot of these videos about it. This is one of the best videos I have watched. Thank you!
One question, the open tiktok and set volume to mute is genius!! How to I set volume on an app open automation?
Glad it was helpful! In the Shortcuts app, go to the automations tab, then choose app as the trigger. Say when app is opened, then add the media volume action and bring it to zero!
@@beardfm I don’t seem to have Media volume as an option when I search. You must have an app that has added that option in your options. I made a work around by making shortcut to set the phone volume to 5% then under automations>app>tiktok when open set to 5% shortcut. Still works but not 100% the same.
Thank you
You're welcome!
Thank you for great video! I like automation to turn off the sound when TikTok is opened, but is there an option to prevent it while Spotify is playing song in the background?
There aren't conditionals like that just yet!
Great video, very useful keep them coming!!
How do you remove the shortcut name so it does not show at the top of the menu list as on mine it shows the shortcut name?
Hm, do you have an iPhone 14 Pro or 15? I'm wondering if the Dynamic Island hides it.
XS MAX waiting for my 15 Pro Max to be delivered.
10/10 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you! Another fun shortcuts one coming later today 😏
Stephen, can you do a quick clip on the Level feature for camera?
What would you like to know? It’s pretty great, and you can enable in Settings > Camera
This is fun.
Hi Steven, I have a shortcut for enable the speak screen option, but there is a way to desable the same speak screen??? Thanks.
Congrats to all of your work.
Will look to find it!
Good simple info. New sub
Appreciate it! More tutorials coming soon 🙏
@@beardfm yeah been in apple eco system for awhile just never dove deep
Great tutorial, thank you for the effort you put on creating the video.
And btw the wallapaper you are using looks very neat. Is there a way i can find it anywhere on the internet ?
Thank you! And that wallpaper is here: kirokustudio.co.uk/shop/bound-wallpaper-pack/
It seems that they dont have it anymore !
Stephen, question: Are you experiencing issues with the show Apple TV remote action not opening the correct Apple TV? I have 7 Apple TV’s and using a shortcut action to open a specific Apple TV usually results in iOS/iPadOS opening the last used Apple TV instead of the specified one…
I’ve had some bugs there recently, yes. But with all the new OS updates I’ve seen bugs in many places. Hoping 17.1 fixes many of these
Need to set up a shortcut for my bus routes and schedules, I'm learning. In Safari my bus app is all I use on there, want to know how to setup the different directions north or south? Sometimes I'm at the bus stop and trying to look at my phone when I would like to just use Siri or make a shortcut? I know planning ahead or checking before I walk out there, even then I still would like to shorten the process? Think I'm on to something, I like this!
Hi Stephen, I have been enjoying your videos. Do you know if you can run a shortcut just on the watch and not the phone? The use case is that if I arrive home, I want to automatically turn off the cellular connection just for my watch, not my phone. I often forget it has been turned on on the watch if I leave the house just with my watch. Thanks
Thank you! So you can run Shortcuts in the Watch by itself (like my Home ETA Shortcut) but automations only run on your iPhone. There are some Watch actions that can run via automation, but toggling the cellular setting on the watch specifically isn’t possible yet.
@@beardfm Thank you. That is helpful.
Stephen, do you know of or have created a shortcut to quickly scan a receipt to a receipt folder in my iCloud files folder? If it could also ask to create a folder if I choose to file receipts would be great. Seems it should be easy but not as good with shortcuts yet. There are apps for this but know I can do this manually for free so seems a shortcut can be done. 😊. Thanks. Marty
Thank you for the great content. I have a question. I just created the Choose from menu shortcut and added it to my Home Screen. When it launches it is slow. Before the list shows i get a smaller window with the stop Icon. Then the list of 7 apps shows. Then when I launch an app the same animation comes up. This is my first shortcut and in your videos it looks seamless. Did I possibly do something wrong? I am using an updated 13 Pro Max. My 15 arrives soon. Thanks for your time.
Thanks for watching! Your 13 Pro Max should have no trouble with that Shortcut, although I wonder if the Dynamic Island helps hide / speed up that process. In the Shortcut, do you have "Show when Run" enabled on any of the steps?
@@beardfm I don’t have that enabled on any step. The lag only seems to happen when I create an icon for the shortcut and put it in the Home Screen. In the shortcut app and if I make it a widget it’s flawless.
@@beardfmGreat tutorials! Subscribed…. I too am experiencing this issue on my iPhone 13 Pro Max v 17.1.2. If I run the shortcut within the app, it loads instantly. But if I add it as a shortcut to the Home Screen, when clicked, you see a progress circle with the stop button inside for about 2 seconds, then menu loads. After selecting the app, it launches the app and another window pops up, ending shortcut the shortcut. I didn’t see an option to enable or disable Show When Run…
Great video: thanks! Uh, I have Bear Pro and don’t see any shortcuts for it, though. Any idea where to get these?
Thanks! And that's strange, I see on Bear's website that Shortcuts can't access locked notes. Are yours open? Also be sure to update Bear to the latest version and then open the Bear app on the device you're using to create the Shortcuts: bear.app/faq/how-to-use-siri-shortcuts-with-bear/
Ah, I was looking for full shortcuts, not actions. Got it, thanks!
well done , please tell me how to use shortcuts as I want many time , to turn on Location services and some time I have off it
Can you make a video showing us all the shortcuts that you use and their purpose? Would be cool to see how you handle repeating tasks and give some inspiration
great video but iam not able to create menu shortcut on I phone !5 as iam not getting any option when search menu pls suggest
Hi, as I see circle to search on S24 Ultra , can you help set something similar as circle to search by using shotcut app, then we could optimizing iPhone action button?
Also please reply when i use google maps siri not listening and when i use apple map siri works?
Hi mate where did you get the icon from in the bottom right of your iPhone screen, cheers
I made that in Pixelmator!
You deserve more subscribers and may you have Tesla too❤
appreciate that 🙏🏻 thanks for watching!
Old eyes and a small iPhone screen don't play well together. Could I do everything you did in this video using Shortcuts on the Mac and have them in working order on the phone? Thanks.
great video. I created some shortcut menus but it seems to take a a couple seconds for the shortcut to go off. it didn't used to do this. anyway to fix it?
Which iOS version are you on? A few users have said they are getting bugs in the latest iOS 17.1 and the beta
@@beardfm 17.0.3. If I run the shortcut from the app or from a widget it’s fine. But if I run it from the bookmarked icon then it shows the shortcut processing.
I have a 3rd party app that has no builtin shortcuts items. It presents a screen that requires me to touch one of several possible buttons to make a selection. Touch is the only interface the app has until a selection is made, then a keyboard opens for input. Is it possible to simulate a touch on the screen at a specific location? If I can get that far I may be able to create some functional shortcuts. Thanks for great tutorial.
Thanks for watching! Using accessibility, you can simulate physical touches on screen with touch accommodations. Then depending on how you’re using it, may be trigger-able by a shortcut. So look in Accessibility settings > Touch > Assistive Touch > Create New Gesture
`Thank you. I used to have a shortcut that started voice memo without making any sounds simply by triple tapping the back of the phone and I can no longer do that. Is there a new way to do that?
I have a good one for you for automation
When battery level equal 100%
-speak “battery at 100%”
-off power from your smart plug
This means that u will never overcharge your phone anymore
Oh that's nice!
Thanks, Stephen! This is a great indoctrination into Shortcuts
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Hi Stephen - I have a suggestion for your next Shortcut video: a Shortcut to stop charging older iPhones (e.g. 12, 13, 14) when the battery level is greater than 80%
I believe iOS 17 will bring that option to those older phones. And unfortunately there’s no shortcut action to stop charging
Please checkout inbuilt “share location” shortcut? Is it not working presently? Throws up prompt saying “frame load interrupted”.
Apple I think I’m convinced now
Once you find some use cases Shortcuts becomes really powerful!
Can you make a detailed step by step QR Code for wifi. Where specifically you enter the wifi info
I show it here! th-cam.com/video/JFb1xODsbYc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CpzQ9T3MGJU5Bs5o
I keep my Apple ID locked with a poss code via the pathway below, but it has multiple steps. Is it possible to create a shortcut that selects successive sub menus in settings app so it goes straight to the account changes option? (Eg.: settings > screen time > content & privacy restrictions > account changes )
I gave a dare to every content creator, and no one solved this dare
"When we shoot a photo/video on iPhone, it should automatically added into a specific album/collection [other than "Recent" folder] in Photos App"
Is it possible to auto enable personal hotspot whenever the iPhone is connected to either wired or wireless power with a Shortcuts automation? How?
Yes! In Shortcuts, create a new automation, trigger is "when connected to power" and then add the action "Turn hotspot on"! Going to include this in a video soon!
Shortcut not working when opening app in automation when phone lock is there any shortcut work when iPhone lock? Please reply
Is there any possible way to make custom icon app shortcut have the red notification circle for notifications from the elected app?
Unfortunately that's not possible yet, you can't have badges on the custom icons.
Kool
I enjoy light mode but I dislike it when in photos or camera. I made a shortcut to disable night mode and another to turn it on. Then set and automation when photos app is opened night mode is off. But I would like to readable it when closed but only if it’s after sun set. Any ideas on that automation?
Hey! Technically you can add an if statement in that automation, get current weather condition, and use sunset / sunrise time as the "if" data
Very Great video. Do you know how to remove shortcuts from apps. When I click on edit they just disappear and can't be deleted.
Thanks! Do you mean removing the Shortcuts app entirely or you don’t want to see third party app actions in Shortcuts?
@@beardfm I was talking about the third party ones that appears when you install an app, but looks like it is not possible to remove them.
I created a shortcut for Mail and one for Messages and put the icon on the Home Screen. Is there a way for the icon to display a notification when I receive a new email or iMessage?
Unfortunately badges don’t show up on Shortcut app icons.
Great video. I’m trying to connect to a specific VPN when certain applications open. Then disconnect VPN when the app closes. Which works but it turns off if the app isn’t in focus, eg a message comes in and I open that. Original app is running in background.
Anyone know if there is a way not to run the disconnect action when the app is minimised and running in background?
Thanks! Tough one there. Initial thought is you can create an automation for when app closes, add a wait command for several minutes, then do an if/statement if the app is live on screen. But I can’t find an action to surface “app on screen” yet
Great video. It is confusing. I have a Smart Garage door Genie Aladdin Connect. I’m trying to create a Shortcut w Siri Open Garage Door / Close Garage Door. How can I create such a shortcut?
Does the Genie have HomeKit support? Or if you search within shortcuts for "Genie" does it have any actions available?
for the orientation lock for the photos app, you couldve used the toggle instead of turn and that way you could have only one automation instead of two. Anyway, do you know how to delete an automation?
While that’s possible, sometimes it can get mixed up. For instance, maybe I went into an app like TH-cam and turned orientation lock off manually. If I don’t manually re-enable, now when I open Photos it toggles orientation lock ON, the opposite of what I want. So I like the hard-coded on/off separate automations. And to delete an automation, swipe right to left on it and you should see a delete action!
I tried the menu option but then i noticed iPhone has the option to create folder to group different apps and you can put it in the dock as well. Way easier than creating a shortcut.
Not sure why but I lol that you use threads!
It's getting pretty popular...just sayin
11:00 Hi Stephen! My Mustang Mach-e uses the Ford App to do all kinds of things. HOWEVER unlike Tesla, it doesn’t come up when I search for it in Shortcuts. I would like to create a shortcut that would remotely start my car with the touch of an icon OR even by asking Siri to ‘start my car’. (Starting the car is an action inside the Ford App). Is there a way to do that?
Hey! Unfortunately the third party app has to enable Shortcuts actions in order to do things like that. There’s no user-facing way to create actions
@@beardfm Thanks for taking the time to respond.
How can I add an action to navigate into a speciific section in an app . SayI want my shortcut to open my google home app and select a device.
I created an automation that I use with a smart outlet to only charge my iPhone when the battery goes under 30% and stop charging after 80%. That way my battery health is always at 100% even after 2 years of use.
Could you share it?
@@winggau452 technically its at 80% health, since you never use the 20% that you are protecting with this message.. So not sure if there is any advantage of heaving always 100% health, when only using 80%, over just using it all and having only 90% after few years 😅
how could you possibly stop charging using automation??
@@mr-birdy The advantage is to sale it faster without negotiating down the price.
@@poornesharadhya2561 I am using a smart outlet.
I like the QR code for Wi-Fi but are you able to set it up so that it shares your hotspot from your phone and password to a third-party who needs to link to your phone? I downloaded the shortcut you created for generate QR code but I can't seem to work out, how to put in my hotspot into the coded steps. if you could help that would be great.
The issue with hotspot is that unless the Apple ID is in your iCloud family, your phone needs to be open on the Hotspot page for the network to be discoverable. If you're on that page on your iPhone, you can create a QR code where the network name is the name of your iPhone as it appears to others, and the password you have set on that page.
@@beardfm Ah I see. So there is no way to 'Open settings" in the code line and then prompt to 'hotspot'? thanks for the prompt reply.
I watch a ton of shortcuts videos but for some reason fail at trying them any tips to get it dialed in to really understand it.
Hm where are you getting stuck? Finding ones that are actually useful or are they not running properly?
Do you a pdf on this shortcut? I like using shortcuts.
I don't have a PDF but you can download any of the Shortcuts I talked about in the video description!
So I wanna do the “mute app” automation, can you give me a run down on what do for that?
For sure! Shortcuts > Automations > App > when app is opened (turn off ask before running), then add a media action volume > set to zero.
