Google Lens can identify the type of flower you're pointing your phone at.
*Crowd stays calm.*
... It can also automatically connect you with your friends WiFi.
**Crowd goes wild.**
anyone who goes to a Google io won't be going outside! lol
That Google I/O presentation was outdoors... Just sayin'.
Counting that the diference of complexity in flower recognition vs digits its tremendous, its even more amazing.
I suppose that people who go to these events are in their mayority just "sheeps". We got digit recognitions since the 80's.
Pd: you will have to excuse my primitive english.
Google I/O is mainly targeted towards developers. Flower type recognition is impressive, but OCR + automatic WIFI connection is something developers can hype about. It also demonstrates how Google Lens can differentiate between different types of objects (flower, building or text), contexts and action types: Should it show details about the object or perform a possibly related action automatically?
I totally agree with you that the amazing part its the contexts and actions types decisions. Im thinking that the rules are probably "hardcoded" in the sense that its a person feeding them, like if x and y conditions are satisfied try z, etc.
On the other subject i can´t understand how a critical minded person can stand the hours of marketing and showing off that these events are. (Im grateful to "The verge" for this 10min summary)
Again sorry for my primitive english, greetings from Argentina.
the google lens looks insane!
RIP Samsung BIXBY (2017~2017)
It looks muuuuch better than goggles ever was, and I'm happy about lens because goggles was forgotten for a long time.
_Cough cough_ Bixby vision
So where's the difference?
Apfel Schorle Samsung hasn't been collecting data and working on artificial intelligence for decades.
lol
"I'm excited to announce..."
I hate this expression with all my heart.
Miguel Ferreira while simultaneously saying that phrase in the most monotonous voice ever
TODAY TODAY TODAY ... pirates can use more exploits than ever with these new apps/services/functions.
Atleast it's not termed as "Magical, revolutionary, perfect, Amazing, Awesome, whike the producr being revealed is boring as ever and just a remix of someone else's ideas, *cough* Apple *cough*
Boom.
Always checking these "in ... minutes" videos instead of the full presentations, it's a really good concept!
TheSupermazter A lot better than sitting through all of that.
Ollie yes absolutely!
Also these are better than engadgets' as well. Love these though
They are, the editing is done really well to keep you watching
Since I got into 21st century, 10 minutes is all my chicken brain can handle !

The last 10 seconds of this video is what an annoyed editor does.

Yo the crowd went wild when the phone got the wifi code just by holding the camera on it😭 that was INSANE
TODAY TODAY TODAY ... pirates can use more exploits than ever with these new apps/services/functions.
Med LEB why are you copy pasting same reply to every comment??
Razin Shaikh People must know the truth bro.
Razin Shaikh I guess I'm not violating TH-cam comments laws as a spammer.
Med LEB I don't know about TH-cam spam policy but I know for sure that it is not pleasant to see the same thing pop up in front of your eyes everywhere. Also, you are not create much impact by those comments
i literally just finished watching the whole 3-hour thing and i could've just watched this instead
It was 2 hours, not 3.

Siri is getting left in the dust... RIP Siri
RadandRylo Siris been dead. My girlfriend will continue to inquire about things everyday and shes never been able to help. I always laugh whenever I hear her ask Siri anything. What a joke Siri is.
Don't worry Apple will copy them in 2 years

Google Lens = new Google Goggles
Diogo Almeida Google Glass
Not the same thing (Google Goggles is an APP)
Diogo Almeida they shuda have a major update...I hate google they have like 3video calling app instead of 1 major one smh I think that's a bad move...
right! I feel like they are always speaking to iPhone users (or "new users") because I've had android for a long time and they keep repeating features as if they're new... just because no one else has adopted them
King Nawfy agree. they have very functional features but the UX is extremely fragmented and boring looking...
Thank goodness for the Verge.

This is honestly scary...
Google knows EVERYTHING, from passwords, to bank account data, phone numbers and even all of your photos.
This is freaky...
FearOfTheFuture Even if that was all true Google doesn't care about your bank account because the make that in a day
H Jack more like every second
Only that google is not a person but a service.
Oh and you forgot to mention location! :p
H Jack They make like over $700 per second or something crazy like that actually.
It's quite scary how much data Google collects about you, especially given that their entire business model is built on making that data to money.
The Rest Of Us tell me one one tech company who doesn't collect data
The Rest Of Us for Google it's not cause ,they have enough tht u just let them .
I mean every pic u take they study everything
The Rest Of Us stop acting like Google would care about you. literally so many people use Google why would they single u out, and like what would they do with your stuff
TaterTot.info What do you mean? They literally single everyone out. That's how they literally make 99% of their revenue. How do you suppose they afford giving you everything for "free"?
Sumitro Bhaumik Most tech companies collect some data of some sort. But you can't brush off the HUGE differences in what they're doing like that. Apple for example collects the MINIMUM amount on data they need, and they never use it to make money. One look at their financial statements and you'll see that. That's not their business model. Microsoft is sort of in-between but still doesn't rely on your data for around 80% of their revenue. Google does rely on your data for 99% of their revenue. That's literally all they sell.
Thank you verge!

So you can get assistant on iPhone but not on most androids, great
You can get Assistant on all Android phones.
BeBeVe
Yeah, but the massive majority of us are on Lollipop, KitKat & Jelly Bean. Just check the statistics.
Google: TODAY
iOS: we made that years ahead of you guys
Google IO in 3 words -> Machine Learning Everything.
what to take from this:
1. lots of names that crowd starts cheering without knowing what is it.
2. every presenter is excited.
and machine learning is new trend in everything now
It seems they're very excited to announce things. Today.
Who else didn't watch the whole event and waited for this video?!
I honestly dont understand Google. Why bring google assistant to ios, you're giving away something that makes android better
Joshua Newkirk Also why not allow all android devices get it, many can't get it even when they have enough firepower to run it.
Joshua Newkirk I think it helps them broaden their user base which in result makes the assistant better because it has more devices to learn from. Something like that
Because Google makes a lot of money from user data I think that they did it because they would get more money from user data vs. the # of people who would come to there devices
It helps aggregate datas on Apple's user base if they aren't Google patrons already which is most likely.
Came here after watching WWDC 2017. Love this more. So much more straightforward and useful.
PiP only with youtube red right?
Nazar Maksymchuk no, for all video forms. video Calling in duo, TH-cam, etc
Correct, you need TH-cam Red to use PiP.
thanks for this condensed version of this. save me a whole lot of time from watching the whole developers conference
FINALLY I CAN TAKE A PIC OF MY ROUTER AND NOT HAVE TO TYPE IN THE LONG *SS PASSWORD 🙌🙌🙌
chokarkar You know you can just change the password right?
The point is not that, the point is its context aware and knows what to look for, which can be used for many other applications like medicine, taking notes etc.
chokarkar that's why there is wps button
You have such a tough life!
First World Problems
I'm stoked on literally EVERY thing in that conference!
Google can bring every service to apple devices. Why can't apple bring services to google devices?
Collin Eichkorn because it's Apple
Because google services are cloud first and apple completely ignored cloud. Its still trying to catch up and has lost the race almost entirely. Google's pinnacle advantage is its dominance in cloud. Apple's forte is device manufacturing and UX / UI execution which they do pretty well. These two should collaborate on the iPhone / Pixel not compete for the better of all.
Because they know how dumb that would be. The only advantages Apple devices have over Android is iMessage and maybe facetime. If they brought those to Android they would lose any advantage they have.
Think about it. If you buy one thing apple, you need to buy a bunch of other apple things to work with the first thing. Sadly, they make billions through that. I guarantee you Apple will never support their software on anything other than Apple devices.
TLDR; Its not a decision problem its a resource problem to solve.
Um if you use one thing google, you use other thing google too. Its an ecosystem, same with Microsoft all companies do it. The only difference is Google, Microsoft have a proper cloud which can support them 3rd party accessories/vendors even more so because most google products are born in the browser.
Apple on the other hand has a pile of legacy stuff that they need to clean up in order to even begin to make it real, with the huge deployment they have its almost impossible to get it right. They are working in that direction with the recent movement to a better file system and more developer friendly APIs but their ecosystem is filled with apple only "hacks" and non documented, non standard behavior which will be a nightmare to support on the plethora of android devices and form factors. Even Google has hard time doing that.
Marvelous. Now all I need to do is to wait for 2018 for any other phone but the pixels to get this update.
Sorry, I must've missed it, when are they releasing this stuff?
Love to the editorial decision in the end there, premium quality ;)
Today?
today
Ryan Handrahan 2dae,tuuday,2day
Ryan Handrahan no, tomorrow.
The Verge was clearly more prepared for this keynote than the Microsoft one that they made with an abrupt ending and without music
i wish apple was this innovative and progressive.
Vitus Bröse sadly Google abandons most of there projects
Apple is just as innovative and progressive but they don't have cloud or compute offerings. Where they excel is UX and device build quality and have done loads of work in that space. Google' is almost impenetrable in AI/ ML etc just because of the sheer amount of data it collects.
Vitus Bröse it was.
No man. It takes COURAGE to remove the headphone jack
Well, its a 100 year old jack. And tech needs to move forward not stay stagnant that jack is literally bigger then half the logic components on the board. I don't remember anybody complaining when we stopped shipping albums on Cassette tapes or how android phones don't have Cassette players and VHS export add-on inbuilt in the phone.
The jack and wire causes more problems then it solves, try any wireless headphone and you'll immediately notice the convenience and flexibility also moving the sound card away from the device will allow better headphones and audiophile grade headphones to bypass the limit of what a phone can ever deliver. Its an engineering problem and coming up with a proper replacement takes research, big money and LOT of risk.
Same with Google, Google has innovated a lot since Chrome, they just have to polish things that they have started. Google has many failed products in the past few years and have a huge backlog of engineering problems to solve which is left unanswered, Heck literally supporting TH-cam at scale is a research thesis on its own, then the smart detection of images at scale is another very very hard problem to solve.
Android's file encryption, or battery management with background apps, or static compilation of code to analyze vulnerabilities they have a lot of things that they need to do now in order to not blow things up. For instance Apple have had some of these features since forever in the iPhone. Its easy to come up with a fancy new feature that nobody will use and call it innovative which many vendors do but polishing it, filling holes and providing better customer experience is a very hard problem to solve.
Google's AI Stuff that they showed this year is insanely awesome and is a very good direction moving forward. Apple just recieved a patent for a fingerprint detector which is inbuilt in the screen itself, so cooler things are underway on their front too.
Making a comment to call apple or any company with multiple PhD researchers trying to solve problems is easy try solving them.
The "I'm excited" phrase is like the "exciting content" from videogame presentations.
excuse me did you said " today "
- "today"
I love how excited everyone gets over Lens automatically connecting you to the wifi hahaha
half the people there have an iPhone in there pockets
Zak more than half probs
You know you're a damn awesome guy when something like 7:35 happens to you. 'Android commented on your picture'. Classy af.

All I can think of is...man, this is too scary. If privacy was a myth before, it now seems it never existed in the first place.

Google Lens: Flower / Not Flower
Why does this show up when you type the dab? I typed
No Pixel or Chromebook news.... 😖
Justin Jeffries different Keynote maybe on October.
Awesome edits. Thanks for uploading this!
Why are they releasing the Google Assistant in Spanish until the end of the year if Spanish is like the second most spoken language in the world?
Joshua Chavana It's Chinese
Tim Li Chinese is the first!
And BTW I'm talking about native speakers.
Joshua Chavana First is English right? 😂
I think the same..... this is because US companies do not want to give importance to latin america I guess..... so they delay the service..... otherwise there is no much sense :P hahaa
I cannot believe how much google has improved technology for these past few years.
Today today today I will study.today
This vid is a time saver, 10 mins feels like i have seen n heard it all!!
Is that Darude Sandstorm Instrumental in the background?
Chris Is. Idk but why is there music in the first place?
Chris Is. ohh you..
Everything sounds so much better! But seriously background execution limit and notification dots! ;) ;)
at this rate google can take on microsoft any time soon
Wha... Wait hold on 8:48 I didnt know Jodie Foster gave up acting career and works at Google
She's hot!
Indians fell proud for sundar pichai
0:35 OMG, Now we also have the pokedex 3.0 I must catch that plant
4:55 When he was talking about Google Home, my Google Home went off when he said "Ok Google...Show my calendar for Saturday." lol
Loved the I/O Event, kicked off with some great products, ready for what Google brings in 2017!!!
Wow, with the amount of times they said 'today", hearing it all at the end made it sound like some sort of foreign word
Today, Today, Today, TODAY!
Googles own live stream had so many dropped frames that entire seconds were gone. You can hear it and see the random lags and missing chunks of video.
why keep on releasing new features and Android versions because we don't get any of those unless u have a pixel
Tech Era This is one of reasons why i switched to iOS
wilsebbis I dont like how the hardware looks
Google supports iPhone so well that its obvious they are not interested in stealing iOS users.
Tech Era To be fair to Google, it is out of their hands at that point, it requires OEM's and in some cases, carriers to approve the new features on their respective devices.
If you want the latest and greatest fro. Google, get a Pixel. If you want Bixby, get a Galaxy S8.
So get a Pixel.
Today, Today, Today, Today is gonna be the day that they're gonna throw it back to you
Pshh Google isn't intuitive. Apple already designed these features 6 months in the future.
best comment here!
Yeah, but Google's 3D touch is going to work on EVERY phone that gets Android O, including the budget devices proving its not an exclusive hardware feature as Apple touts it to be.
Nithin Thomas ... So, How many phones are getting Android O?
REALLY great video, hit just the key points, no bs. Thank you!
what about stable Android apps on Chrome OS?
selwyn gonzales Who actually uses chrome os...
Bartinater ! duh people who have Chromebooks, noob
And who uses chromebooks?
Terran Dunklee a lot of people, dude. Get with the times.
They left out a cool part about Google Lens. Just before the reveal of the name, it says that the lens can, for example, remove the fence out of a picture of a girl batting in front of you
Too bad only like 3 phones will get this update.
Uber/Tube Glad I have it
Uber/Tube so true
I have litteraly thought about the Google lens thingy before..I can't beleive it actually came through
TODAY !!!
Who else had their Google Assistant turn on repeatedly while watching this lololol
2 billion users? How many are running Nougat? -_- 😒
You left out the VPS system! Amazed me.
wow, the one feature that made bixby cool. lens destroyed it lol
All I am hearing is "By plugging into the machine completely....we have shallow prizes for you!``
This kinda creeps me out
What exactly creeps you out? Technological Progress? So go to live forrest.. without comuters, smartphones, internet, etc..
Nah mate they collect to much information now they analyse al your pictures your voice goes to databases to be analysed its just to much it would be nice if they could do it just localy on your device
And what the problem with all that data collection? I'm personally nothing to hide.
Soon there will not be personal data storages (HDD, SDD). Everything will be in clouds.
@ Wolf
robindoherty.com/2016/01/06/nothing-to-hide.html
you should read this
@the Verge, 2 and half hour long keynotes edited into a 11 minutes video..thanks a lot.👍

This is just fireworks that nobody will ever use.
Privacy Privacy Privacy....that's all I'm gonna say
Abdul Aden Yeah, but we all die anyways. Might as well just order take out through Google and get it over with
Always look forward to verge in 10 minutes, and verge never disappoints!
10:39
TODAY!
The notifications "dots" look familiar. It's almost like the only thing needed is a pressure sensitive screen. Wonder how they could do it.
spying spying spying.
Terminal Root you can stay in the past
Or join the future and get your privacy invaded, and maybe hacked! woo!
Jim Dayton and blame donald trump after that
The obama administration was doing a pretty good job of spying on you too.
and donald is doing a great job of selling it all to russia
I have the same feeling as when I just got my first phone. All the fuzzies of what my phone can do and what I can do with this phone.
Haven't experienced this in years (around 3). Hopefully I can put life back into my original Galaxy Note with these new features; I still use it daily btw.
