Short track skating and speed skating is actually quite different. Short track is four skaters in the same lane not seldom (by accident) pushing another skater off the ice and is the sprint, while speed skating is more of a marathon or a 10 000 meter race. Usually, a speed skater won't do short track and vice versa.

It never crossed my mind that The Winter Olympics is not as popular as The Summer Olympics worldwide, but it's not surprising when you think about it. Personally I'm not interested in sports, so it's not a big thing for me. When it was send at Sveriges Television and TV4 I used to watch the opening ceremony and figure skating, one of the very few sports I appreciate. But I watch very little TV and don't find it worth the money to pay for additional channels, so nowadays I'll have to manage without it. It's not a big deal, but I can feel a bit like an outcast at times during these weeks. ;-)
oooh I hadn't thought about watching the Opening Ceremony, I might have to check it out! I'm sure you wont miss too much though, you can just catch up on the highlights on TH-cam instead ;) but I know what you mean!! that was me during the skiing world cup... couldn't stop hearing about it and yet I had NO idea what was going on😅
Just the other day I read an article that the IOC wants to even out the two games in size and viewership. They're considering moving several indoor sports like handball, basketball, perhaps table tennis, gymnastics, wrestling, boxing and all the other martial sports from the summer games to the winter games. Hey, they could move the swimming from summer to winter as well, but perhaps that would take too much focus from the real winter sports. Nothing is decided yet and I suppose 2026 is too soon but perhaps for 2030 or at least 2034?
What? Talking about weird winter sports and not mentioning curling in that segment? :) You had a bit odd "must sees", both Kalla and Nilsson might compete in a few events when the better athletes need the rest, both of them are pretty much there to fill up in case someone gets sick and we need an alternate for the relays or something like that. Sandra Näslund in skicross might be something for you to watch, big favourite and the sport is non stop action. And also the three different curling events, Sweden and GB (Scotland) are among the big favourites in all of them, there is some rivalry going on there. :)
haha I was already giving the curling a mention later on, so I felt like I shouldn't pick on it twice😅 thanks for the tip off about Näslund though, I'll keep a look out!
I am not too surprised with the third one ski and shot targets. I am only surprised that it was not the Finns that made that activity because of the Finno-Russo Winter Wars in the past.
So you mention luge, but not the totally crazy sceleton, which is just the same as luge, but you go head first! As for biathlon, it’s really a perfectly “constructed” sport, since the athletes really have to balance the two completely opposite parts. Too much effort put into the skiing will mean a lot harder time at the shooting range.
