I just have to tell you Rob. I was listening to this video while my 2 y.o son and I were eating dinner. All of a sudden he just keeps saying "Doctor" over and over again! That's the first time he's ever said a superhero/villain name and he picks Doctor Doom of all things! Thanks Rob!
Very biblical! Ecclesiastes 8:9 states that man has dominated man to his injury. Which is why we need to be subjugated under God's government. Left to our own devices, we ruin everything 😔
I'm glad someone finally remembered this story existed. Read this a long time ago, and bought the graphic novelization. It's what I point to when anyone says Doom's not a good leader. The man solved the world, and only let it go cause he got bored...
Yeah. Doom is honestly a good leader. However... His methods are not great. Especially here, where he manipulates everyone into letting him climb to the top. If he honestly went through the proper channels, in the real world? He'd probably improve the world quite a bit. He wouldn't lead the entire world, no, but he could massively improve it.
After people regained free will and grasped what Doom did.. I’d imagine that “Doom Was Right” memes would be all over the internet and t-shirts would be selling like hot cakes.
Hey Rob - the way I see it, even Doom feels his victory is hollow and he is unsatisfied. He doesn't feel the way he expected. He knows the world is changed but in an artifical manner. The real victory would be to truly convince the world to do what he suggests and have them choose to do it. Hawkeye at the end reflects this, because humanity has the power to go either way, but due to the nature of free will, they won't know until time rolls on. Doom reminds me of myself when I use cheat codes on a video game. I'm loving it for about ten minutes, then I feel like I've cheated myself of the challenge and satisfaction of overcoming the difficulty. It would have been nice to see Doom's personal reflections on these events and how he might influence or manipulate those same positive changes to the world without using any secret schemes, just Doom as the respected leader of Latveria sharing wisdom and foresight, and maybe resources to make it happen.

By all accounts, history and modern business has shown that dictatorships are a very effective form of management. But as the volume of things needing oversight increases the effectiveness is diminished based upon the experience and intelligence of that dictator. This is why we see small businesses often function better than corporations and why the world had fewer wars and a better quality of life when you had countries divided into smaller kingdoms with a government overseeing a population. Even in those situations the limited scope of authority meant a corrupt leader would drive away their subjects due to it being easy for a citizen to uproot and move to another kingdom thereby creating an incentive for leaders to be servants of their people rather than exploiters of them.
Honestly, im siding with Dr Doom on this one. Stopping Doom is cool and all, but whats the *Better* solution to what Doom did? Not finding a BETTER solution and allowing things to go back to "normal" was the problem. Dr Doom and Hawkeye had a great point
That begs the biggest question, would you rather have free will thus having potential chaos around every corner, or be controlled into be an equality peaceful way of living?

This was a kinder, gentler Secret Empire- including the question that you ask here. In the end, humanity wouldn’t have learnt anything. If you think about it, Marvel has been consistent in saying that you can't Super hero or Super villain society to a better state. We cannot rely on one man, one ideology, one country to make the world a better place. We have to do it, individually, then as a group then as a world.
So long as the purple man remained alive, everyones will would be bent to doom without question. After purpleman dies, thats no longer true. They wouldn't rebel unless doom ordered it to be. Thats why doom eventually got so bored he just let it all fall apart. Because they wouldn't do anything out of doom's order of "obtaining peace and prosperity for all" The imposed order wasn't because doom took over on his own merits. He took over using the mind controlling powers of purpleman. Outside of those few loose ends he took care of, everyone was under his control and were absolutely obedient.
I respectfully disagree. Dr doom took over his kingdom of latveria from the ground up. It would have been easy to kill the baron turned king and wear the crown himself. But that wouldn't change anything. Instead, leading his people, they all fought and EARNED their fair state of government. It can be done its just a matter of how you go about it. I feel like Avenger Doomsday should have several teams in action, each team has at least 2 loved characters to unite the fandom: The Thunderbolts (Yelena, US Agent, Bucky, Ghost, Taskmaster, Sentry, Red Guardian) Fantastic Four (Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, Thing) West Coast Avengers (Hawkeye, Vision, Shang Shi, War Machine, Wonderman, Antman, Captain Marvel) Mighty Avengers (Captain America, Spiderman, Thor, Hulk, Black Panther, Wong, Falcon) Fantastic Four (Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, Thing) X-Men (Cyclops, Storm, Jean Gray, Beast, Iceman, Colossus, Photon, Binary) Dr. Strange, Clea, and America Chavez on their own adventure thru the multiverse Then after Doomsday they can make the movies take place in different parts of Battleworld. Spiderman 4 can take place in a massive Manhattan composed of many different versions of NY The Blade movie can take place in an area of Battleworld that is filled with darkness and monsters. In Dr. Strange 3 we see Dr Strange trying to cope with his failure to save the multiverse. Finally in Secret Wars it can be about Tom Holland Spiderman, Dr Strange, and Mr. Fantastic (Who's family has actually been taken by Dr. Doom to be his own family), recruiting Multiversal heroes to fight the different barons of Battleworld to release the enslaved heroes who have forgotten how they got to Battleworld by Dr Doom. Team 1: Wolverine, Toby McGuire Spiderman, Thor and Ghost Rider (Nic Cage) have to fight the Maestro (Played by Eric Bana) in the Wastelands. Team 2: Deadpool, Tom Holland Spiderman (Black Suit), Blade (Mahershala Ali), and Andrew Garfield Spiderman end up in zombie territory (cameo fest of zombified marvel characters) Team 3: Dr Strange, Mr. Fantastic, Captain Marvel and Prof X (James Macavoy) have to fight King Magneto (Michael Fassbender) in Genosha, we also get to see Evan Peters Quicksilver, and the younger xmen from the 2010's as citizens of Genosha
Julian McMahon is still the best Doom portrayal we have seen so far imo. It’s a shame we didn’t get to see the duality of his character and power that he’s been granted in comics over recent years to make him one of the best anti hero’s. RDJ is still iron man to me haha
Listening to this, this just reminds me of the Earths Mightiest Heros cartoon. Probably this is the story they used, especially the scene forcing Cap to watch the screens Also Rob, I believe ultron has joined the avengers rn in the comics
I would LOVE to see a story. where the Avengers and FF finally came to the conclusion that "Look, Doom has spent his entire life figuring out how to save the world from itself, maybe we should let him try", and, as they say, going to Doom first.
Doom is actually a deserving, intellectual and hard working guy. He doesn't have any super powers but he competes against the entire Avengers by himself.
Doom has, inherently, some of the most potent magic on the planet that his mom made a deal with Mephisto to give Doom. Those are superpowers. Go read some comics, please.
If they are forced to become better by a single ruler. When that ruler falls, for whatever reason, no telling if humanity won’t go back to their old tricks. We have to get there on our own. And remember, Doom will do that but will flay the skin of the first person that disagrees with him
I think the question has a bogus premise. That peace and prosperity under Doom would never work out that way. Due to human nature, even dictators eventually fail. Entropy rules all systems.
He danced a little in Wandavision I think right? Pretty sure, but it was a more romantic and slow dance if I remember correctly. I think it was when they were in black and white still.
Sounds like this story inspired an episode of Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Except in that episode it was Vision who woke up a month later to find the Purple man had Stark take over with a bunch of IronMan robots.
That was a good story, I did feel bad for the Purple Man having to be held captive, I wonder if they could have harnessed his powers without ruining his existence.
Thats crazy. The new Dr Doom Series is on its way. I just read Storm issue #3 and at the end of the issue World Emperor Doom request a audience with Storm. Interesting

@ but the mcu fandom like her and Bucky
Major pleasure gaming with you tonight. You’re always welcomed in a game I’m in.
This story would have been great to see adapted on the big screen with Henry Cavil as Wonder Man
Don't know if I'd want cavill as wonder man but it would be cool to see in screen
Doom is the Omnissiah
Yea Until the unbeatable squirrel girl come around lol!
Julian McMahon is still the best Doom portrayal we have seen so far imo. It’s a shame we didn’t get to see the duality of his character and power that he’s been granted in comics over recent years to make him one of the best anti hero’s. RDJ is still iron man to me haha
"it's on like Donkey Kong", I'm talking chest pounding, barrel tossin', princess kidnappin' kinda shit.
Listening to this, this just reminds me of the Earths Mightiest Heros cartoon. Probably this is the story they used, especially the scene forcing Cap to watch the screens
Also Rob, I believe ultron has joined the avengers rn in the comics
really!!!?
Is it still pym or are they separated yet?
I would LOVE to see a story. where the Avengers and FF finally came to the conclusion that "Look, Doom has spent his entire life figuring out how to save the world from itself, maybe we should let him try", and, as they say, going to Doom first.
Doom is actually a deserving, intellectual and hard working guy.
He doesn't have any super powers but he competes against the entire Avengers by himself.
Well, he’s a sorcerer so that kinda counts as a superpower.
@parsman9914 A learned superpower like science.
Doom has, inherently, some of the most potent magic on the planet that his mom made a deal with Mephisto to give Doom.
Those are superpowers.
Go read some comics, please.
@CrashBanooca-d7n Thank you. I read manga too, maybe I should give you a quiz on YuYu Hakusho.
@chrisleaf idc about what Manga you read. You got your little 'fact' wrong. Delete your comment and take the L
They save free will and avoided world wide slavery. There's no question, only Doom.
All The Avengers saved, was free will. Which is what makes a human human... So, yeah. They also saved humanity.
1:26 that image to me looks hilarious
"I slugged 'er."
"DUDE! Do you not remember that team meeting about Ant-Man and Wasp last month?!?"
Of course I did.
Rob. You are insane. You are the villain. You are the bad guy. Rob, you are the best.
Sir rob thank you!!*!* You're the original bad ass of comics on Utube. No one does it better brother.
Well deserved tbh. Doom does as Doom pleases, and what Doom does is best.
I need that one panel that said doom brought independence to puerto rico and frame it cus goddamn
In 40k the Emperor of Mankind uses the argument of "the necessity of tyranny " to justify his rule as well.
Freedom always trumps security. Cap essentially always espouses this and I wholeheartedly agree
Freedom trumped unity. And the innocent and powerless suffer for it
Love these chronological tellings I can listen to without buying the copies. Thanks!
If they are forced to become better by a single ruler. When that ruler falls, for whatever reason, no telling if humanity won’t go back to their old tricks.
We have to get there on our own.
And remember, Doom will do that but will flay the skin of the first person that disagrees with him
Well said. Latveria is pretty well off but incredibly harsh to those who step the slightest bit out of line
I think the question has a bogus premise. That peace and prosperity under Doom would never work out that way. Due to human nature, even dictators eventually fail. Entropy rules all systems.
The core to his plan was that the entire planet was mind controlled. His subjects were only willing cuz they were compelled
This story parallels to modern day geopolitical/economic strife is wild. And there’s clear thru lines that can be drawn to modern day leaders.
Vision dancing to dancing queen is now something I need to see happen.
He danced a little in Wandavision I think right? Pretty sure, but it was a more romantic and slow dance if I remember correctly. I think it was when they were in black and white still.
Great reference with They Live! "I came here to kick butt and chew bubblegum. "
Avengers EMH had an episode called "Emperor Stark", where they (somewhat) adapted this
To answer the question, Doom did both the most good and the most evil. Very on brand.
Sounds like this story inspired an episode of Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Except in that episode it was Vision who woke up a month later to find the Purple man had Stark take over with a bunch of IronMan robots.
I would say it would shortly after he released the Madvillainy album with Madlibs. That was the height of his power.
I can't wait for West Coast Avengers 2024 to finish and watch the video of you covering it cause I've read issue 1 and I'm itching for more
Doom giving south Africa back tho 🤣 my man never forgot about storm
bro had Namor subdue Ultron and didn't even use the robot who can hold his own against the strongest of Avengers...
It would never work without a purple man. People would hate Doom for his generosity
That was a good story, I did feel bad for the Purple Man having to be held captive, I wonder if they could have harnessed his powers without ruining his existence.
I don’t he’s a villian 🦹
@@LNT379 me either
Best- Movie-Reference-Ever
Doom's number 1 enemy: boredom.
Thats crazy. The new Dr Doom Series is on its way. I just read Storm issue #3 and at the end of the issue World Emperor Doom request a audience with Storm.
Interesting
I remember this episode of Avengers EMH!
Doom fought his greatest enemy, Boredom - and lost.
I was going to have a few drinks while watching this video but sadly… there’s only One Beer left
God I love tigra
