Squatters' rights is an oxymoron.
Squatters rights is actually commonly misunderstood. It only applies to an unoccupied and otherwise neglected property. You have to live there for a fairly lengthy amount of time without anyone coming to evict you, ask for rent, claim the property etc. Basically at some point the state considers the property abandoned and let's you have it with some arrangements. It does not apply to "I just stopped paying rent and refused to move out" and indeed if at any time before that golden length of time someone comes to kick you out or claim the property, squatters rights are gone and you will not have claim to the property

Actual single digit IQ take. Squatter's Rights helps tenants that are being screwed over by their landlord. Take a scenario like this for example: You live in the South where it gets well over 100 degrees in the summers. Your housing's AC stops working, and on the lease it says that the landlord is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of appliances and home amenities, like the AC/Heat units. You call your landlord about the broken equipment, but you never get any kind of follow-up from the property maintenance or any HVAC technician to fix the problem, so you're stuck in 95 degree housing the entire time. You cannot just break the lease, without substantial fines and your credit getting shafted. Squatter's Rights allows the tenant to effectively stay there and refuse to pay the rent until the landlord fulfills their end of the contract. Because failing to pay rent makes you by law a "squatter".
Is it really fair at that point for the landlord to neglect their duties, force you into uncomfortable housing arrangements that they were required by law to fulfill (by the terms of their lease contract), then kick you out and sue you for the missed payment(s), breaking your contract, and their legal fees? Squatter's Rights aren't giving bums free reign, meaning it doesn't apply to the defendants here, it helps people to dispute landlord negligence and dispute unfair treatment. You may sit down.

They ignore the eviction notice, stop paying rent.. no matter what, that's SQUATTING. So they go to housing authority, falsify a protection order.. these are all exactly what squatters do. Pathetic.

But they didn't stop paying... she evicted them in October, but she accepted checks for October and November She seems like a slum lord to me, and they were trying to get over on her. Both parties are degenerates IMO...

She gave them a legal notice to quit and they ignored it, that makes them squatters , then they retaliated by calling housing authority and looks like false claims against her. Defendants are professional victims!
She continued to accept rent from the in October and November after the date she told them to be out. can’t have it both ways. Accept rent and call them squatters.

Tenants are awful .... I feel so bad for the landlord. Squatters are the worst. The mother is horrible also. Shame on her... enabling her daughter when she is 100% in the wrong. The landlord deserves the max $5000 for having to put up with this horrible couple. This is why people dont' want to be landlords anymore.
They admitted, even in police report, that they saw her on January 2nd. But claimed they couldn't pay rent for the apartment they were squatting in November and December because they could never see or hear from her. 😂😂😂

If a landlord gives a notice to move by a certain date and then accepts rent after that date it effectively cancels the notice to move. These defendants are very horrible and immature scammers. So funny they think the landlord is in the wrong.

After running a restaurant for many years, I have encountered many of these kinds of people who (equivocally) eat the entire meal and then don't want to pay because "they did not enjoy" the meal.
