I didn't like it on My first listen because of the production. After a few more listens I understand that the production was used very artistically and the lyrics and his rapping abilities were phenomenal. It's now probably my most listened to of Em's albums. This album is just so Honest!!!!
Real stans have always loved this. Eminem makes himself leave the comfort zone and experiment with his craft. People were mad about that and tried to cancel. But we will keep Eminem around forever. We will fight till our hands bleed for a better future, and he embodies that to his core.
Wow. I don't think nobody tried to cancel him because of the album, the album just didn't largely for the most part resonate with people and that's that. People tried to cancel him for the other stuff that many got heat for at the time and some got actually blacklisted for saying certain words in the past and stupid stuff like that totally out of context of the times etc. Also the track Foolish Pride he made when like 15-16 years old is what he has been apologizing for now what the fourth time already got risen up again. Nobody needs to fight till their hands bleed, the man can hold his own. Everythings fine.
@@aleksisuuronen5969 your a very literal person aren't you? Check out Eminem's whole discography. He has fought tooth and nail to make his future better. I'll never understand how a lot of ppl didn't like this song.. Its a master-piece tbh.. The blood, sweat and tears this man has been putting out for decades.. The lives he's saved with his music and still ppl seem to hate on everything the man does.. *Now take your best rhyme.. out do it, now do it a thousand times* (Which he's done) - - Like Joe and Tyler calling this the worst song they've heard.. like WHAT?? This is purely beautiful poetry..
Beyonce does the female vocals on this track. You've heard enough tracks by now you should recognize and agree that his pursuit of more and more and being better is a never ending journey. Even back to Rap God with the lyric "But look at the accolades these skills brung me / Full of myself, but still hungry". Its like rap was his one and only reason for existing (besides his kids). Its his life, and his passion. If you notice through most of the video on the typewritters, he is typing nothing but random letters and gibberish. But as it gets later in the video there is clarity and he is typing actual words for the track Stan. Still looking forward to seeing you do some content in his interviews/documentary videos :).
Those last 3 words is a double entendre. "I wrote Stan" as in he wrote the song Stan, but also as in he wrote a letter to Stan. What's even more interesting, Stan's first 3 words in his first letter to Eminem (after the salutation "Dear Slim") are "I wrote you". It's also a metaphor. Stan represents a fan that has expectations from an artist. He expected Eminem to write back. Although it was too late, Eminem indeed wrote Stan back. This song (Walk On Water) deals with Eminem questioning his ability to give his fans what they expect from him. By using this Stan reference of him writing Stan back (and therefore fulfilling the fan's expectations), he basically confirms it. But yea, even without understanding this second layer underneath, Eminem bragging about writing the song Stan still delivers the same message.
@@ShesJustAsBoredAsMee If you want some more... "Why are expectations so high? Is it the bar I set, my arms I stretch, but I can't reach" 1st layer: In terms of rap he set the bar high and it's hard to reach it (even for him). 2nd layer: The word "bar" has become a slang term denoting a double entendre or a clever/shocking/interesting line or rhyme. The words "stretch" and "reach" both mean an interpretation of a bar that the interpret himself didn't intend. So Em is saying that he's trying to "stretch", but he can't "reach". Like he can't write a stretch/reach. Everything he writes he means it. He's unable to write something basic or something without deeper meaning. But this could be a stretch.
Just imagine.. Well none of us can imagine, the pressure.. Every time he puts out an album to his 40+ million fans and every single thing has to be better than your last. It is absolutely insane. When a rapper put something out, eh it's either good or bad but when Em puts something out.. He is tested for every single line he spits. The pressure of that!
Yes, listen to Believe next time if you can. It’s a really motivational and raw song. It perfectly showcases how strong Em is and he’s just always able to pass that energy onto the listener.
Eminem has been a huge part of my childhood growing up. Coming from a broken home as well his music has helped with the suicidal thoughts and being in a dark place.

Stevie knight once said.. Em wears his ❤ on his sleeve.. and it's sooo true.. not only in tracks like this but ALL his tracks.. the good the bad and the ugly
Thank you! Thank you! I love this song so much! This is the one Em song that reduces me to tears pretty much every time I hear it. Because it is so relatable. He has other songs that are tear-jerky - When I'm Gone, Like Toy Soldiers, etc. But although you can feel them even if you aren't in the position they portray (a parent of a child, a leader in an effed up "war"), they are still conditional. But this one isn't simply because it doesn't matter WHAT you do in your life, whether it is rap, programming, teaching or cooking, everyone know what it is like to doubt yourself and be afraid of disappointing others. That why this one is so universal imo
Walk on water is the first track in the Revival album. I feel starting from this first tack, this whole album is very underrated as Em himself has stated. Great reaction as always. Thank You.
So many people hate this song - personally I think it’s great and so honest. I love the songs where he bears his heart with his pen this is one of those. His use of language and admission of weakness and insecurities deserve a lot of love and respect.
Skylar Grey and Eminem did a great live performance on Saturday Night Live: th-cam.com/video/GxkLy_mvGXE/w-d-xo.html (Walk On Water/Stan/Love The Way You Lie (Medley/Live From Saturday Night Live/2017)
This performance is absolutely perfect, thanks for reminding me of it so I can watch it again. Skylar is so amazing as well. Beyonce, Dido and Rihanna are so good, but Skylar does all their parts so perfectly in this.
Always love the end of the song. He spends the whole song breaking down how truly vulnerable he is and how everything affects him. Laying his heart and soul out to tell you I'm just human, but don't you forget I'm still GODLIKE on the mic and FUCK YOU. Perfect encapsulation of Eminem.
I know right! Just at the beginning you feel like a kid in a candy store. With high expectation, waiting to listen to Eminem's next song. But then you feel almost awful when you hear him struggling with insecurities of making God tier music. When in the end we just want to tell Marshall that we know he's human. And we appreciate everything that he had shared. That we know that he's just a human (with amazing brain to create masterpieces of songs). And we are forgiving when he falls again and again. Because like he had said before, (I'm paraphrasing) his worst is anyone else's best PS. I always struggle singin along at Beyonce's verse because it's just so raw and honest that it never not got me in my feels
Exactly. As an empathic person on a similar journey of working on me, I can feel his pain but proud of how he is so honest about his struggle and still overcoming. I’d so love to just make sure he knows that he is seen and appreciated.

This song is a masterpiece the way Em bared his heart & soul onto this track was just so emotional and yet so revealing Beyoncé vocals are amazing too this song has a sad yet uplifting message towards the end and to answer your question this album got heavily criticized just cause Em chose to take a different creative direction from his previous albums which was unexpectedly great and yes it’s a masterpiece Em The Goat!👊🏽🐐🔥💯(Please React to Eminem “Beautiful Pain” Ft. DeShaun (Dupree Holton), or "Proof" as he was known, was Em's best friend, the one who had his back. The "brother from another mother". His death was sudden and violent.
Again, not sure if anyone said it but, a fun fact about this album is his first line on the album from this song is, “why are expectations so high” and the last line on the album from the song arose is “now I know” Just a lyrical genius. Love your reactions my brother ❤
What a great song. Em is wearing his heart on his sleeve here, though the last sentence may make you think twice. It's kinda like he says :"HA! Got you! " Pure genius anyhow. And a great reaction as always 🙂 It seems from the comments that this album actually is the favorite of many. I think I'll have a go at it and listen it through. But I feel like I need to read the lyrics to catch more than 70% of it, as I'm Norwegian. Take care, Chris ♥♥♥
Not really a ha got you in my opinion, it's just finishing his thoughts. He feels like the song at times, gets down, but at the end of the day he still knows who he is and overcomes the bad thoughts. Everyone is like this. Think bad, but snap out of it, do what you need to do, be proud of your accomplishments.
Revival got heat that it didn't deserve. In time it will be recognised as one of the greats. Things are already shifting for it. It's an amazing album.
It's not really about people expecting everything from him, it's about himself expecting more from himself and it's never gonna end, because that's how perfectionists are
I love eminem his music has helped me so much when going though a hard time in the past , also Stan in my opinion is one of the greatest songs ever written such a class lyrics and story telling
You should check out "Jay Z ft Eminem - Renegade". There are several lyric-based videos for this song. Keep in mind this was 2001. Jay Z took a lot of heat for Eminem surpassing him on his own track. Truly poetic!

I don't know if anyone's mentioned the "DeShaun" reference and I couldn't see anything, but it's a reference to Proof who's name was DeShaun Dupree Holton. So when he says "But the only one who's looking down on me that matters now's DeShaun" he's basically Proof is watching over him and that's all that matters. Love the videos btw!
Absolutely amazing reaction video, everything you said was on point to what the song was relaying which a lot of people overlook because they just dont get him
Unfortunately don't have time to watch right now. (I am at work 😏.) But wanted to thank you first for doing this reaction. One of my all-time favourite songs from Em.
We would love to interview you. You are such a wholesome person and a wonderful role model but you always keep yourself from diving into things you want to say.
Hello Larry! I love your content and I am so glad to see someone around the age of my father discovering the beauty and depth of the hip hop and rap culture. I would love to see how you gonna like some of the underground artists which are again very talented just with a bit harder language but in some cases having even deeper bars. I would like to suggest you Vinnie Paz and RA The rugged man and songs as a start maybe "Keep movin on" and "fraudulent cloth" from Vinnie and "First born", "Contradictionary" and "Afterlife" from RA. And maybe one of their colab songs - Vietnam Story. Hope may be you find some great artist in this part of rap as well. Anyway, great job.. keep it up. Wish you all the best! :)
I feel the same way and numerous other as well! lol. Doesn't matter how many times I hear it. I just want to give the guy a hug and tell him everything's going to be ok!
That’s Beyoncé in the chorus and bridge. All of the EMINEM’s sitting at the typewriters typing gibberish is a reference to the saying that if you put a thousand monkeys in a room with typewriters and let them go eventually one of them will randomly type the entirety of Shakespeare’s works. Throughout the video they are getting closer and closer to typing out the song Stan and at the end when the lyrics say “I wrote Stan” is basically saying that they achieved it. It goes along with the theme of the song that he is constantly trying to outdo himself.
Once again great job on another reaction. I’m so glad that your son used you for this so other people that didn’t like Eminem understood the lyrical genius that God put in his brain and heart. My pastor was just talking about culture influencing us instead of we as Christians influencing culture. Such as the sports world or the entertainment world, we put so much trust or loving in these people that we compare them to God because we can see them. But failed to realize that God created these people just like us that we need to put our all in God. But I love Eminem because just like he said he is only human and he make mistakes just like us. He also tells us he is not God because he is not perfect so remember that.
You might have heard me say "he's right at the door" referring to Em. It's so clear that he understands these principles, but hasn't apparently connected the dots...
I've never really liked this song for some reason (hoped it would grow on me but it never did but oh well) really glad you did tho :) The singer is Beyoncé btw

Again, not sure if anyone said it but, a fun fact about this album is his first line on the album from this song is, “why are expectations so high” and the last line on the album from the song arose is “now I know” Just a lyrical genius. Love your reactions my brother ❤
Thanks so much!
Sorry to read about Freya. Take care 'AL' patti
@@patriciajohnson9654 woah how do u know about our little freia. rip she is probably as many boats as she wants in heaven😇
Thanks brother!

I smile whenever I see that you've posted a new reaction video. You're AWESOME!
Aww, thanks Aaron!
I have been waiting for this one!
Great reaction to one of my favorite songs! :)
This song is awesome and i really liked your take on it!!
Revival got heat that it didn't deserve. In time it will be recognised as one of the greats. Things are already shifting for it. It's an amazing album.
Unfair expectations is the realest think I ever heard
It's not really about people expecting everything from him, it's about himself expecting more from himself and it's never gonna end, because that's how perfectionists are
Hope he Learns to give himself some grace more
I love eminem his music has helped me so much when going though a hard time in the past , also Stan in my opinion is one of the greatest songs ever written such a class lyrics and story telling
You should check out "Jay Z ft Eminem - Renegade". There are several lyric-based videos for this song. Keep in mind this was 2001. Jay Z took a lot of heat for Eminem surpassing him on his own track. Truly poetic!
It was originally an Eminem and Royce Da 5'9" song. It was later gifted to Jay-Z by Eminem, along with Em's verses.
@@Daymare_666 not really relevant tho ngl
@@Francis_Higgins, it's just an interesting fact for fellow music nerds like myself, and since the fact pertains to the song that was referenced, then it actually could be deemed relevant.
@@Daymare_666 its not relevant to what he said tho
If he's a big enough fan of em to be watching a reaction video and suggesting songs he probably knows this anyway
@@Francis_Higgins, damn bro, you really pressed about a little fun fact, huh?
I as a Stan want to tell him face to face
“we love you, we love everything you do.. you’ll never lose us”
This was my first time hearing this-it’s beautiful.
Brother I love your reaction, especially your Eminem reactions! Keep it up!😃
God bless you🙏
Never heard this one before, great song, loved the reaction as always but there's one more thing... I just realized that my neighbor never returned the tools he borrowed about a month ago. Thanks for reminding, Imma go get them back 😂
Hell yeah thanks for the shout out
lol, no problem! How could I not??? 🤣
Once you react to the song believe I will be stoked those were the only two songs I've been requesting for awhile lol. But if you don't I'm grateful you got to one of them atleast. They're on the same album. Just wanna say I subd the day after you reacted to em for the first time so been a pleasure to watch you go through the journey appreciate the time you put in for us as I'm sure you do as well.
Oooo! Walk on water. Already love this and I haven't started the reaction yet :)
lol! Hope you did!
Amazing reaction as always
I don't know if anyone's mentioned the "DeShaun" reference and I couldn't see anything, but it's a reference to Proof who's name was DeShaun Dupree Holton. So when he says "But the only one who's looking down on me that matters now's DeShaun" he's basically Proof is watching over him and that's all that matters.
Love the videos btw!
Absolutely amazing reaction video, everything you said was on point to what the song was relaying which a lot of people overlook because they just dont get him
You have to do the song that immediately follows this .. it literally flows straight into it. Its called Believe.. ill get you a link
th-cam.com/video/JrIoKNaM-8w/w-d-xo.html - believe
Love your videos! Keep doing you!
Thanks so much!
The reference is about his buddy Proof who he lost years ago. His real name was DuShaun Dupree Holton.
I, as a Em listener, never expect a lot by him. I just listen and love his music
Unfortunately don't have time to watch right now. (I am at work 😏.) But wanted to thank you first for doing this reaction. One of my all-time favourite songs from Em.
Thanks H!
Loving the Eminem reactions as always! Would be great to watch you react to some of his interviews
Believe, the next track is so good.
Yes Finally been asking for ever
We would love to interview you. You are such a wholesome person and a wonderful role model but you always keep yourself from diving into things you want to say.
Thanks so much!
@@larryshair Wow you really do read a lot of comments, never expected you to see this one 💜
Bey has an amazing voice!
What a great reaction man 👏👏
Appreciate you Chris, not just your reactions but I can tell you as a person are amazing
You too, Aj! You are so very kind!
I feel the same way and numerous other as well! lol. Doesn't matter how many times I hear it. I just want to give the guy a hug and tell him everything's going to be ok!
I always cry when I hear this his pain hurts
I cry also
@@mariavaughn8303 your a real one then
this one is special for Eminem.. The real stan knows..
Just keep going Chris, No Life Shaq started from nowhere and now gets stuff directly from Em, so it may happen to you, you never know!
And it's been said that Em seeks out reactors to his videos, so it's very possible Em has already watched Chris at least once
Hi Chris. Kind of scary how much you love Em. 😀 Hope you have a great week!
Hey there!
@@patriciajohnson9654 Hi Patti! Hope you are doing well.
Eminem- guts over fear, is right up your street Chris.
I've never really liked this song for some reason (hoped it would grow on me but it never did but oh well) really glad you did tho :)
The singer is Beyoncé btw
Its an awesome song i love it
Chills 5 years later…!
I love this song. I love that he shows his vulnerability. Please react to Believe next. It's the track right after this one on Revival.
Can you believe people hated revival one of the realest albums ever shows you the world doesn't want real truth he opened his heart on this and got torn down that's fucked up em is a fuckin masterpiece everyone's gunna regret when he's gone he's such a legend
Those who hated didn't listen unfortunately.
@@cindyw262 facts I was mad for him he poured his heart out
@@Abnormalofficialme too!! After my first listen through, I was like how can people possibly hate this. Then as I listened more and more, I became even angrier cause it's so good.
Even today when people say it's trash, I tell them to go listen again and again and again lol.
There are so many profound truths that I have heard from that album. There will always be haters out there, and I truly feel bad for them.
@@larryshair facts I love your reactions man keep doing you I appreciate your appreciation for em
I'm glad people now appreciate this song. When this came out, the "fans" just jump on me whenever I say I liked Revival overall.
Agree . I own this CD. It's actually stuck in my CD player in my car. If I try to eject it it will get stuck and ruin 🤣 needless to say I know every single line of every song off revival 🤣💙
