My friend, you are on track to having a VERY successful solo RPG channel if you keep it up and remain consistent. I have stayed away from Mythic because I never fully understood the generator, and other demonstrations seem to be missing a lot of context for me to follow. But the narrated follow along playthrough while using Mythic was excellent! Your voiceover on this video is beyond flawless man. Soothing and very enjoyable to listen to and learn from. I hope I can emulate what you are doing to some degree for my channel. I hope you bring in a mix of other games and such, and review other games. Would love to see what you think of other systems, and perhaps you can review my games one day, if your down of course! Amazing job, and you have earned a new follower! Keep em coming bro!
This was so very kind of you to say! I appreciate the words of encouragement and am about to watch your Rising Legends actual play right now! Thank you so much for watching! 😊
I also do plan to play different RPGs and use different source books! Seeing what kind of story comes out of a new RPG is probably my favorite part of this hobby!
Thank you so much for watching!! Yes, you can totally dungeon crawl solo! We'll be doing a lot of that here 😊 If you need any help getting into it just let me know! There are so many great resources out there.
This was great, I have subbed. I really like to be shown the process followed when watching a solo RP session (as you did), rather than 'just' be told a story. That way i can incorporate new ideas into my own play. Thanks.
Ahhhhh thank you so much!! I also enjoy knowing about how mechanics inform the story when watching or reading an actual play, so I tried to make sure anyone watching can at least partially understand what's going on mechanically! I appreciate your words of encouragement so much!
awesome vid! and helped explain some parts of Mythic 2e like Scenes. i'm eagerly awaiting the rest! FYI i would love to see your obsidian templates/setup or a play through of a modern rpg!
Ahhhh thank you so much for the encouragement!! I'm using a really basic setup for Mythic in Notion, but maybe I'll cover it in a video sometime! Maybe I'll wait until I've gone through enough sessions for my notes to reach their "final form" before sharing 😂 I tend to start really basic, and expand my notes with known sections as I need them! I try to avoid over-preparing at all costs!
Is this using Mythic 1e? In 2e, the chaos factor changes based on how the scene goes, not the altered scene etc. Love the concept, by the way, and this looks like it is going to be a lot of fun to follow.
Thank you so much for watching! This is based on 2e, but I'm using the Fluid Scene Structure from Mythic Magazine #34! Basically you choose when to ask a Scene Question, which is like a Fate Question that decides the next scene, and adjust the Chaos Factor based on whether the resulting scene is expected or not. You can also update your lists whenever you remember to, rather than stopping for book keeping between scenes. I love how it really does feel fluid and fast, while remaining functionally similar to the default scene structure!
This is amazing! I thank you for sharing this. I have the Mythic GM Emulator but have not used it to play a solo game yet. I have been a bit intimidated by it to be honest and being my own worst critic, figured I would flub it up somehow. It's been very interesting seeing it in action as you play. I have a host of RPGs and would love to play them, and I think if I continue to watch your videos, I'll get the courage to try myself. Keep up the amazing work!
This was a really inspiring comment to read, thank you so much for taking the time to share your struggles! I'm confident that you can find a solo roleplaying flow that will work for you. Please feel free to ask any questions, I'm so happy to help!
Thank you so much for watching!! I follow guidance from Mythic GME 2e on how to run published adventures solo, which involves looking barely ahead of your character, such as looking into the next room as you're walking into it. I find that this preserves enough of the mystery to still be exciting and to not ruin surprises while allowing you to make good calls as the GM!
@TheLonelyDungeoneer i have been looking everywhere for a comprehensive guide to doing prepublished modules as a solo without ruining everything. Hoping to learn a lot from you as I continue watching. Looks like I will be picking up some pdfs and trying to play along as well. What an awesome way to celebrate D&Ds 50th
Awesome video! I'm just getting into solo RPG and this is a great example of actual play, especially on the narrative side. Fluid Scene Structure seems really interesting as an alternative to choosing whether the Chaos Factor goes up or down in each scene. I found it interesting how you used random events as prompts for additional worldbuilding rather than an actionable event like an NPC showing up or an encounter breaking out. Makes me realize there's a range of possible interpretations to what an 'event' consists of. Also interesting that the party is controlled by Mythic as well. Do you expect the PCs will always be Mythic-controlled or will you control them primarily once we get to know them better (i.e. defined enough to need a charsheet)? I'm so curious to see how this will play out. 😄 Keep it up I'm really looking forward to more! EDIT: I forgot to mention that currently your description links are broken.
I really enjoy the Fluid Scene Structure and decided to break it down more in episode 2 based on all of the comments here, so look for a better explanation early in that video! And yes, there's a wide world of ways to interpret a random event! In my experience, taking the broadest range possible helps to keep the adventure flowing, which is the big challenge in solo play. You want to keep the adventure marching forward at all costs! In this session I imagined that the NPC actions we triggered caused the respective events to happen through their influence!
I think I'll go back and forth between controlling them myself and allowing Mythic to emulate their behavior! Especially when I know what's coming I enjoy emulating their behavior. It's like I'm stepping back and forth between player mode and GM mode. Also thanks for sharing about my broken links! This channel is so new that TH-cam won't let me have full links in my video descriptions yet 😂 I'll be sure to update them as soon as I can! Thanks a ton for watching!!
There is an app, but it's currently being discontinued and then replaced! There are computer based tools as well, along with Mythic cards that are pretty fun!
Just wanted to say that this is the most comprehensive solo RPG actual play that I've ever seen.
Thank you so much!! I try not to assume that the viewer already knows what I'm doing so people don't get lost!
This is an excellent tutorial for the Mythic Emulator. I have been looking for just such a video, thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for the kind words!! I'm glad you're here!
Awesome start to a campaign. Subscribed!
Ahhhh thank you so much!! I'm about to learn about Shadowdark on your channel!
Hope to see more!
Thank you so much!! I'm almost done with episode two, I'm going to try to finish it up today! 😊

Sweet video, excited for this series
Edit: I found your video from your reddit post btw
Ahhh thank you so much!! 😊 I was really surprised by how many people reacted on Reddit! So happy you're here!

@@TheLonelyDungeoneer oh sweet! I'll check it out.
Let me know what you think when you do! It doesn't seem to affect gameplay very much mechanically, but it definitely feels different!

I feel like this is the video I have been searching for for years. Sub'd.
Question: Do you read the modules before setting up to play the first time?

This seems more like a mythic video than a d&d video. 15 minutes in and not a single D&D action or roll has been taken, it's been all mythic.
I'm really interested in the Mythic DM emulator. Is there a actual app version or is it only in print currently?
There is an app, but it's currently being discontinued and then replaced! There are computer based tools as well, along with Mythic cards that are pretty fun!
