Finally someone understands- I genuinely believe that Melanie Martinez’s music is such a good fit for Michael Jackson. First off, Michael didn’t have a childhood and struggled with growing up. He had such a childlike personality which is something I love so much about him. Melanie’s Music stems from her childhood and childlike thinking. Although her personality is very much grown-up, she still likes childlike things which is explored through her music. This childlike thought mixed with the adult ideas tackles a interesting blend of subject matter. Michael is more opposite- he enjoys these childlike things but it doesn’t really show up in his music, it’s not referred to in his singing career (other than the song “Childhood”)- it’s more of a personality and mental issue. Again I’m not glorifying anything such as abuse contributed by his father, but I feel like Melanie’s music really connects to Michael’s life. Of course this doesn’t apply to all of her songs just a few to a couple. For example: Mrs. Potato head, Tag you’re it, Detention, Dollhouse, Cake, Crybaby, Mad Hatter, Show & Tell, Drama Club, Recess, and maybe Copy Cat. Mrs. potato head refers to how his father called him big nose, ugly and “too black.” Which inevitably lead to him altering his face. Yes, I am aware he has vitiligo... Tag you’re it- refers to when his father would beat him when he was a kid. He said that he would run away and as long as his father couldn’t catch him, he was safe. Detention, Drama Club, Show & Tell, Recess- This is all about the media; the tabloids. The people that always wanted to go after him for money and fame. Basically how people ran him into the ground and essentially exhausting him. Plus, his underlying problems with being a perfectionist. Crybaby, Mad Hatter, DollHouse- this really refers to him being himself. Michael had a very soft, shy personality- he was very sensitive and he was different. And some people couldn’t handle that and so they made fun of him. The doll house kind of refers to how he grew up differently with his brothers being so talented along with himself and how his father treated them. Cake- I know Melanie really thinks this with a bit more as a relationship- like in a more sexual way, however, for Michael- I kind of see this as a way that everybody backstabbed him once he was accused for the alleged abuse against kids. (Of course he’s innocent.) Copycat- I think of it as more of everybody wanting to be like him, always going after him and his money. I don’t know it’s just something I see. I see the connections between the things that happened in Michael’s life with some of the subject matter Melanie sings about.
Can I just say that your analysis on this matter and giving some of Melanie's songs to the various things that happened throughout Michael's life does make a lot of sense.
