Good review and test for a 1 day use case. Considering it was in direct sunlight and the top layer still had ice, and everything on top was still cold, it did exactly what Yeti advertises it to do.
I agree. a lid would lessen the air exposure to ice. Air is the key factor to melted ice. When packing coolers in general, best practice is to fill them to the brim to eliminate air.

Ice buckets should come with lids. That come with the buckets free. Greed on Yeti' part high price on bucket with out lid then high price on lid, might scare people off is offered together. If you hated it make a great tub/ pool for Jill to cool off in.

It would be interesting to get the lid and then do a comparison of how much better it performs. Still impressive without the lid though.

I would put a towel over it, maybe add some rock salt to the ice. I think you’re supposed to leave the water in the cooler vs draining.
