Honored to be a part of this recording..Playing guitar alongside Spanky,Pino,D,Quest,Bilal,Anthony,James and the rest of the crew in this band…Essesnce Fest was a fun show ……..
dude are you serious?!?! Theeee Chuck Treece, punk drummer & Philly skate icon, is on this 98 Essence Fest crew? ON GUITAR no less?!?! How did you get on this, Spanky (RIP), Jeflee (RIP), Quest? So much Philly in this mix it makes me proud. Plus I been a Chuck Treece fan a damn long time
I don't know how this recording happened to exist but whoever thought about pluging a recorder into the stage console to keep such a rehearsal session had to be wanting the best for human kind.
Sits right next to Prince in terms of creativity, instrument fluidity, vocal ability, production, composition, appreciation for the various genres and respect from his fellow musicians and artists.
Wow wow wow...this is the reason I appreciate recordings of rehearsals and "live" recordings! That bass gnawing at ur soul, D'Angelo jabbing at u w/ his adlibs, and that ORGAN AT THE END!!! GOOD LAWD AH MIGHT!!! Mannnnn LISTEN
D'Angelo and the 'Quarians dug deep to cook up this rendition of 'Lady'...damn. Sounds like Al Green, Sly Stone, and the Mighty Clouds of Joy got into Funk Fight on stage. #respect.
That Minnie Riperton in the beginning set it off but when the guitar and bass come in it takes me all the way into a vibe unlike anything we've had in years 22 years later still killin
Whenever I hear or listen to Pino playing with D'Angelo it reminds me of myself when I was in US. Coming from eastern europe, the only people who I really bonded to were only the soul brothers, playing stuff like parliament, or prince and just enjoying the best music that just appeals to human soul.
Truly amazing!!!! You can feel the music rather than hearing it. Touched my soul - closed my eyes and let the music wash over me. Musical notes soothed my soul. Truly inspirational. Thank you.
This man was and is one he'll of a talent. Only soul r n b strings arrangements close to this is Marbin Gayes bands on the I want you and Midnight love albums
@@khamaumaualso thought so, same as this one right ?? th-cam.com/video/wssNWY9KMsE/w-d-xo.html at 1:32:30 - do you know the name if the song, cant find it
Arbi Alexander Yessir! Maaan, I watch that entire concert at least once a year. I know that whole show top to bottom! Yes, the name of that EWF song is Getaway off their “Spirit” album

I remember seeing you in Paris in July 2020 for the Voodoo tour, you had that fly style man
Yessuh doc! Channeling that quartet life. 😂. Y'all on the map.

D’Angelo is one of the undisputed great artists of all time! What a gift!
Sits right next to Prince in terms of creativity, instrument fluidity, vocal ability, production, composition, appreciation for the various genres and respect from his fellow musicians and artists.
Livie's Lovelies facts. His discography is tough to match up to. Still feels fresh, what 20 years later?
In Spanish we translate O Good Lawd to Ay Dios Mio dang DAngelo put it on me......sit on it .....or something
still facts.

Pino doing the Sly Stone "Thank you for talkin to me Africa" bass groove too crazy!!!
If you're not feeling Sly and the Family Stone, I know you haven't lived long.
Oh my God Pino killing that bass.
Once a bass goes Pino, it never goes back. Good lawd.
Bass line resembles "Thank You For Talking Me Back To Africa" by Sly. I'm sure it is by brilliant design!
@@Backpackfiles my brotha...Best Sly & the Family Stone album

Crazy he like another prince when it comes to playing every instruments
If the rehearsal was this dope, I can’t imagine what the actual performance was like. Respect ✊🏽
Ooh this shit sound good. I love him Real bad
The intro needs it's own video. D'Angelo has always fucked with the best musicians and him being one himself just take it to genius levels
hearing anthony hamilton's sweet ass tone in there too, my lord.
I am glad that I found this. DeAngelo and Prince are both musical genuises.
Achievement Unlocked: Superior Taste In Music
I hear a little bit of “Thank You For Talking to Me, Africa” from Sly Stone in Pino’s bass licks. 😊🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'm only now realizing this is a half step up from the original and most of the other live versions.
Love me some D Angelo
I keep coming back to this year after year. It’s a classic
the horns quoting Getaway by Earth Wind and Fire at the end….
To God be the glory that I have this full recording
Please share it if you will!!! My band is doing a tribute to d angelo In a few weeks would love to hear it.
Yo!!!! Can u please share!!!!
this is legendary.
Spanky’s guitar is fire
Wish there could have been footage. I would have liked to see their interactions at the end, after something like that.
It's a shame, and there is no footage of the Voodoo tour, too. why?
You can hear all of his influences compounded into this 13 min recording. That Baptist chuch breakdown about halfway through took me out!
Pino! Cutting that Bass up like a bag a Baltimore Smack!
On My way to see badu...in md
My hero 🧘🏽✨🫠🌊🌊🌊❤️🔥🌻
Uncle Spanky killin that guitar groove
rock this on some good acoustic head phones to truly appreciate how he massage that bass and those drums
I know we all like what we like, but that guitar riff same on the record and the same here, absolutely gorgeous and impossible to improve upon.

Gave me so much life!! 😩🙌🏽 bad boys!
I wish I could've been there. Anthony for my mom, D'Angelo for me! Would've been dancin' our ass off
The instrumentation is very reminiscent of his Prince cover of "She's Always in My Hair" - i'm sure it was released around that time
Off tha damn chain. WOW!
This joint so funky it’s crazy my lord
They locked that Quartet drive at the end 🙌🏿🙌🏿🔥🔥🔥
