Yes, there are a couple Americana videos on our site. The kimura and Americana are both key locks (ude garami) and the difference is that the Americana is done from mount and is 'inverted' to the kimura.
Combat is fluid and unpredictable..so there may be many options available to you in an MMA fight. Having said that, once you have secured both hands on his one arm, you'll have superior leverage to get the tap or submission (usually). There are MANY examples of kimura submissions in MMA, so it is an effective tool for your tool box.
Yes..we should have been specific. A mounted position (side of full). Going for a an americana when someone is in your guard is a bad idea because you don't have the leverage like you do with a kimura.
You guys really know what your talking about. Thanks. I'm sixteen, from scotland. I quit boxing last year, wanted to practice MMA, and mabye take it somewhere. Thats my dream :P
@AUInnocent It depends. In this situation, I would think the thumb would help. The gable grip, however, is a LOT stronger without using the thumbs. Also keep in mind all the other submissions this can set up. This sets up the inverted triangle, the omoplata, and the carnie. Lets not forget sweeps - there's a flower sweep and/or arm bar here as well if u trap the far side arm before using this technique.
it's almost like your going for the omoplata but you stop half way and do a kimura. I like it, you could swith into this if you try for an omoplata and can't get it. Great vid.
Yes, we release all our new videos on our main site first, several days before we upload them to you tube. If you guys want the lastest vids, check out our site daily!
@jahoppas Old comment, but I agree with you. Thumbless grip is much better for pushing motions (you can use the heel of your palm), but for me, anything to do with grip/pulling is better with the thumb in there. Haven't ever heard or been shown something differently, but then again, I've only trained for like a year.
@morgantheron1: ya but to get the omaplata you're gonna have to bring the other leg toward you... i see where you're coming from, but too much work. the kimura used in this demonstration is kickass because it's explosive. should be easier when gi'd up.
@Submissions101 Longtime viewer, Even on my old account. I don't understand which direction your shooting your leg??? I try this and I know its how I'm shooting my leg thats hindering me. 1st off Are you launching from your foot or knee? 2nd is your foot or knee suppose to go diagonally towards the opponents shoulder almost or do u literally shoot it as if you were trying to knee yourself in the nose? I've tried this technique and since it wasn't working I'm sure it was my execution to blame
Think outside the box for jiu jitsu with the things you learned and/or looked up and youll do good.im on my 3rd day of bjj and im making brilliant progress.they taught me a basic guard pass (didnt freaking work),looked around on youtube and found one of better quality.
@tyebo87 I'm not a Judo player, but I don't see why it wouldn't be. Since Masahiko Kimura was a Judo player, and he tapped Grandmaster Helio with it, that seems like it should be the most legal move lol.
We just did the basic kimura from the guard in gi at practice today. I like this no gi variation, much quicker for sure. Would you say that this is a higher percentage variation compared to the basic?
I don't know a great deal about Jujitsu so this may sound like a stupid question, but: When the guy is leaning over you with his arms down, could you not just smack him in the chops (=face, i'm english)? Obviously I appreciate that in a training environment you don't want to be smacking the crap out of each other, but in for example an MMA match, would you go for the armlock or try the punch?
one question does your other leg have to remain locking the opponent..to be more secure...hey anyways awesome technique..this is my first submission on someone :P
@jumpman366 im on maybe my 9th class and ive learned a little more than a basic guard pass but i rolled with my friend and tried the basic guard pass (yupp didnt work) but i learn more all the time i learned a few better ones in class and on youtube
Unfortunately all we have here is that damn American Tae Kwon Do Association or other Tae kwon do schools. I been doing striking arts such as Tang soo do since I was 11 (29 now) want to build a good grappling and ground game. Till i find something close and affordable, I'll watch this. Good videos : )
To get the omoplata isn't there at least 2-3 extra steps to finish it ? And the kimura is just right there. Kimura seems like the quicker finish right there.
technically, isn't the Kimura 'reverse Ude-Garami' ;)... pioneered by the Judo legend, Masahiko Kimura!... used to break Helio Gracie's shoulder? nice vid, though. these little intricacies make the difference...
@Submissions101 I've been trying this technique and I don't understand why it hasn't been working??? something about how i move my knee, Advice? I don't understand how your moving your knee
Stupid question, but why do you need the monkey grip when controlling the arm? I've been an MMA fan for a while now and I'm trying to learn more specific details about submissions and whatnot, but I haven't seen any explanation WHY to use the monkey grip. Anyone help me out?
"bouncingboredom" In an MMA match the guy in the guard probably won`t try to pass guard that way...In Bjj guard is a totally dominant position,in MMA its 50/50,so the guy in the guard is probably going to use his 50% which is ground and pound,THEN you will go for your subs, cuz your strikes are ineffective at that point.
@lilgoalie im guessing you have never trained so i cant help you.you probably never heard of bridging which is important to reversals and you probably dont have the strength to bridge.

You guys always have awesome demonstration videos. Great job!

Always good stuff! Keep up the excellent work.

Thats my dream :P
You bet. We'll add some more soon!
sure....that is available also.
@1lostinspace there are always different ways to get moves in jiu jitsu. Even in the GRACIE family, there are variations on moves.
omg pure awesomeness kimura!

excellent instruction.
Thanks a lot you guys! Great videos!

sort of like a half scissor sweep to get them into position, I like it
wow awesome new way of doing it

great set up for an omaplata as well

awsome move
I've always wondered how is the Americana different from the Kimura? There aren't any Americana videos here are there?
Very nice tip by the way
Someone's done their homework ;-)
@Submissions101

@spellmakerone The no longer make them but we have our version of rash guards on our site that are pretty kick ass ;-)

nice... i like how you guys don't just focus on subs alone, but you show guard passes and some good sweeps... can we see some more sweeps???
@tyebo87 I'm not a Judo player, but I don't see why it wouldn't be. Since Masahiko Kimura was a Judo player, and he tapped Grandmaster Helio with it, that seems like it should be the most legal move lol.
very smart

u can also kimura lock him with your leg if you did this, I noticed

With your leg already that far forward, would you say that going for an omoplata would also be a good idea?
@510Kirky Keep training, my friend. U'll get there
@DonutsRGreat ppl speak different languages on youtube, and the translation software is not without flaws

What's the brand of your training camp?
Fucking A! I love this channel.
sneaky-sneaky!
at that position would it be a good idea to go for the omoplata?
Do you keep the same "thumb to thumb grib" while trying to apply the kimura?
sure
Is the kicking motion at all similar to the motion of an omoplata?
Where can I buy those shirts? They are not in the hayabusa website.
@chartizzle How does this resemble a scissor sweep??
Stupid question, but why do you need the monkey grip when controlling the arm? I've been an MMA fan for a while now and I'm trying to learn more specific details about submissions and whatnot, but I haven't seen any explanation WHY to use the monkey grip. Anyone help me out?
doin this monday
looks like if u miss the kimura u could get an omaplata
can you do an omoplata from this?
@bigtomo69er where can I find this
Anyone know any submissions from the Guard?
@BushidoCode72 Yep. We made a video specifically for this: Rubber Guard 101 watch?v=wUDqbU2jwxg
@Submissions101 why does ur comment have 4 thumbs up

@jahoppas I have no idea why I said that.
@1lostinspace If it makes them tap.. it aint wrong. haha. thats my theory.
@lilgoalie im guessing you have never trained so i cant help you.you probably never heard of bridging which is important to reversals and you probably dont have the strength to bridge.
omoplata
