Alocasias are one of those plants that has tuberous base, although it might look dead, it can bounce back if not wholly rotted from the base and under dirt parts. I send you warm thoughts and hugs. I lost my grandfather last year and due to corona had not seen him before and couldn’t attend the funerals either. Hope you have lots of loving memories to keep with you.

I did read about the Australia floods on the BBC News, I don't recall it being mentioned in the US news though. Yes, that yellow one is Oncidium Tiger Crow 'Golden Girl'. I think it is one of the prettiest yellow Oncidiums but it is very hard to find here.
The company I bought from included installation. The man came out with his son and installed it on to a pre-prepared / flattened area of my backyard. If you are located in Australia I can give you the details

Not sure if it’s just my plant but this oncidium has always been very temperamental for me
