    Now that a stunning specimen of a Melaleuca tree at the front. Best one I seen outside it native habit of Australia.
    For the avocado, most variety need 2 tree to pollinate well. Also they love organic matter, so digging compost and manure 1-2 time a year will boost it growth!

    The variety of aloes are amazing. What I seem to notice is what the two planters, which are not doing so well, have in common -- they both have black lava rock. Perhaps, the black lava rock is holding on to and soaking up too much heat. Absolute stunning garden! Scientific experiment: try subbing the black lava rock for something more heat deflecting?

    Hi Laura! Greetings from Michigan! I love watching your videos and learning about so many cool plants that won't survive over here! haha I'm in Zone 6A, but we get Zone 5 winters fairly regularly, at least for a few days if not weeks, and especially with windchill. I really liked the Coprosma / Rubiaceae and the Pittosporum in this video, so naturally trying to search for similar plants that will survive here, but not much luck. Wondering if you're aware of any ways to search for my dilemma in finding similar plants for my zone or if by chance there's a book for people in my zone that want that California look? Planted my first few Sedums this spring that should make it... wish I could say the same for my Dwarf Hinoki Cypress that are fried. :\

    Beautiful yards, front and back! This might sound crazy, but I believe that Judy's artificial turf looks good because it's installed in small doses and there are no straight lines where it abuts hardscape. Large expanses of artificial turf don't ever look like a lawn, they just look like...large expanses of artificial turf. Especially when installed against the straight line of a sidewalk or driveway. But here, the installations are small and curvy, and somehow, that keeps it from looking like that horrible green bleecch that you purchase by the yard off a roll at Home Depot.

    The black rock ground cover will hold the heat better than the white and it could be making the roots too warm and some of the plants and that may be why they’re not doing too well

    I had an agave rot today! Its in the garden and just received too much rain 🌧. So many months of it, then a short dry period and then rain again. It was slimy! Yuk. Anyway, let's see how the rest of the garden copes with winter...

    Why do you clip the ends of the aloes; like the ones by the putting green area?

  • @MIchelle-cairn_mom
    @MIchelle-cairn_mom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Need at least 2 healthy avocados trees for cross pollination. x3 in area is usually min. if want fruit

    • @MIchelle-cairn_mom
      @MIchelle-cairn_mom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Can also try flowers underneath to attract more pollinators sometimes helps. I just put lantana in pots so doesn’t spread, pretty low water.

    • @francisvlatko2834
      @francisvlatko2834 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I was told you need a male and female to cross pollinate and then it can take 2-3 years to bear fruit.
      Sure way is to graft an already fruiting tree branch(s) onto the non fruiting tree.

    • @MIchelle-cairn_mom
      @MIchelle-cairn_mom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@francisvlatko2834 the flowers have male&female parts for pollination but need lots of pollinators. Having more trees betters the odds 👍 I’ve only seen solitary trees fruit in heavy pollinators zones, or in portager.

    For the avocado trees that flower but don’t set fruit, several reasons are possible. Trees under 5 year old may not set fruit. I think It may be that they need more protection from hot sun and wind that can make it tough for bees (pollinators) to visit and cause blossoms to drop. I had this problem with a Meyer lemon in a pot on my elevated front porch with a western exposure subject to intense hot afternoon sun and wind. Increasing water and fertilizer wasn’t sufficient. I relocated the lemon in the pot to my backyard where it received a lot of afternoon sun but it was less intense, and the backyard is sheltered from wind. The bees were happy to visit the lemon plus the adjacent lavender-having other plants nearby attracting pollinators is also helpful. So if the trees are about 5 years old and providing ample water and fertilizer aren’t yielding results, provide more protection from hot sun and wind!

    Avocado’s apparently don’t like salty coastal air and they don’t tolerate the wind said my gardener from Mexico.

  • @teresajasoo2853
    @teresajasoo2853 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The avocados need to be together to encourage pollination what the NPK

  • @MIA-lu6pp
    @MIA-lu6pp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It took my avocado tree 10 years to start producing, if it’s a graft it shouldn’t take that many years to bear fruit.
