Godzilla Gets a YouTube Award Part 3 (Fan Parody Animation)

This is more like Part 2.5. This was intended to be the final scene of Part 2 ( • Godzilla Gets a YouTub... ), but I became very conflicted about it during editing. The scene went through many, many changes and I even thought about cutting the whole thing because it's mostly just a pointless detour that's barely tied to the previous parts. Hence why I made it a separate video.
The uncertainties came from the dialogue and the subjects discussed, which I felt were far too negative and detached from the rest of the animation. Certain monsters in my animations represent different viewpoints about to the giant monster film genre and its fandom, and the Danish monster Reptilicus here is meant to be a combined spoof of a stereotypical monster film hater and spiteful, closed-minded European. He embodies a hateful, dismissive and often hypocritical mentality that has been holding back the genre's discourse since the inception of monster films, a mentality especially strong here in Europe where these types of films have a far lesser impact and acceptance than overseas.
I and many other fans have experienced this ourselves, I've read about it in film literature dating back to the 50s, and I have written about it myself. Even the animation I originally wanted to make, before I decided to put that idea aside and make this TH-cam Award animation instead, would have been about giant monster films in Europe. It is a subject rarely spoken about by American or Japanese fans who live in their own separate worlds, but many of us Europeans think about it almost daily. In this video though, this topic is touched on in a more shallow manner and comes across as little more than a one-sided rant or an overlong gag.
At first I had a lot more jokes planned, including a reference to the infamous Reptilicus porn novelization, but they all needlessly extended the scene and veered too far away from the animation's focal themes. Even in the video's final form, the whole argument between Reptilicus, Yongary and Agon kind of goes nowhere and is overly repetitive. The editing and timing in the middle part is perhaps noticeably sloppy, as I had to reorder and recut the shots and completely change the original dialogue. I wanted to cut it down by a few more minutes, but removing those shots messed up the scene's flow.
I don't think the video's a total waste though, as at least Bagan gets more of an introduction and I also took the chance to include some fun cameos that a few people will probably find amusing.
I don’t know why but Reptilicus basically being a Kaiju sh*tposter who doesn’t get the actual concept of Kaiju just makes sense. And it’s satisfying to see him get blasted to pieces lol
Reptilicus is like Zilla but lacks a lot of the nuance/self-respect he did, which is why they get punished and Zilla walks off a victor.

I like this deep rooted and almost nihilistic view that less popular movie monsters like reptillicus and even Zilla seem to have. It really is just a projection of how the monster movie industry tends to go. Every different character was more or less forged from the same material, but not every monster is equal. It makes sense that the further from the king of the monsters one goes, the stronger they tend to hate their own genre.

Save you some time just in case-
TLDR: Basically, the nihilistic view of this whole series basically boils down to: if it's not Godzilla himself... Why bother? All the other monsters are either just there to make him look good or be fodder for him to beat up. He is *the* King of the Monsters, so any attempts to do anything that isn't Big G himself are ultimately shallow and a waste of effort (in the characters words)
Full thing:
Reptilicus is apparently from a movie made by Denmark in 1961, and is the titular character. The plot of which being essentially: "A giant reptilian tail is dug up which regenerates into the whole thing, and generally makes a nuisance of itself".
Reptilicus is p much Denmark's only giant monster movie, and, notably- according to the imdb page for Reptilicus, one of the reivews left by a user claims that they've met the writer and, to quote them quoting the writer- he said: "He substitued imagination for dollars"- Said user also stating that it's unfair to judge a movie based on it's limitations. However, obviously- The movie industry doesn't view all movies equally, and a general chunk of this series is poking fun at Godzilla and his many, many iterations, as well as the many ways he is viewed.
Reptilicus' movie performed very badly, and Denmark has never made another giant monster movie to date- So in the eyes of someone like Reptilicus, who is generally an offshoot of Godzilla- in his eyes, what's even the point of there being any other giant monsters if they aren't Godzilla himself?
This is the same view echoed by many characters throughout this little series, with even Godzilla himself claiming that every other Kaiju is just a knockoff of himself. Their achievements are his- so it just becomes this all-encompassing black hole where you basically have to have a monster who is SO stupidly significant from Godzilla to the point where they stand out, but are either overlooked, cult favorites, forgotten or just become fodder for Godzilla to beat up- As stated above.
@@truefailure6359 I can’t remember if he’s appeared in this series yet (I don’t think he has though) but I wonder where gamera would place on that list, all things considered probably cult favorite seeing how he was in hiatus for a looooonnngggg time and only recently came back through a Netflix animated series, though I do remember a fair number of people being excited when they released that video for the series anniversary that a bunch of people thought was a trailer, then again it was probably just kaiju movie fans being excited, and not really anyone outside the fandom.

I’m guessing since Bagan went through a lot of concepts art before being ultimately cancelled, is the reason why he can transform into all those forms
In the original pitch Bagan could shift through several forms--a water, air, and land form--before turning into a single coalesced being based on the other 3. Bagan was scrapped for costs and the 1984 reboot became focused on Godzilla. The 2nd time Bagan came up was for a mothra movie, but that eventually turned into the godzilla and mothra movie. It's never mentioned if he could transform for that. Just that he was an ancient dragon released by global warming or something.

In one origin story I read for Bagan, he is a DNA hybrid of all the previous monsters Godzilla fought. basically a Kaiju version of Cell from Dragon Ball. he had dozens of powers, which is why Godzilla needed to become Super Godzilla to fight him.

@TigerBiteCK This robot-looking thing. Tahtorak is its name. Lived in Metru Nui, which is basically inside a COLOSSAL humanoid spaceship, that can use tractor beams to collide planets. Basically, Tahtorak was a poor homage to kaiju while Mata Nui(the colossal robot) became one of the biggest yet wasted potentials of the Bionicle franchise.

Highlights for me was Bagan in general, especially with his oversized gun, Gorgo and his son riding the UK and the main three in the episode.
(The fact that Gorgo’s son was speaking heavy Londoner was hilarious, and relatable since I live in the UK.)

It'd be interesting for sure to see them interact with each other. Reptilicus seems to despise anything non-European more than monsters as a concept, so I think he would see Zilla as just another one, while Zilla, I think, would see Reptilicus's "pride" as the epitome of absurdity. They are so different, yet so close in this series...
I think zilla is a lot smarter and more nuanced than reptilicus and would have fun knocking him down a peg

I'm an african kaiju fan, so I can somewhat relate to that too. I'm probably the only kaiju fan within a radius of 2000 km, and the only person that know somehow godzilla are either people who caught 2014 once on TV last year, or older people who watched king kong vs godzilla at the movie or on TV decades ago. We don't even have our own crappy kaiju like reptilicus

I think it might have been a deep cut in the kangaroo kaiju from the cancelled game Colossal Kaiju Kombat. Painting itself green because the barely kaiju from the game is green.

Duncan, a furry’s original character. There was going to be a game called colossal kaiju combat made by some devs that worked on Godzilla: Save the Earth but unfortunately Duncan and, I shit you not, his furry mafia, pooled their money together to get that kangaroo into the game before ultimately sabotaging the game’s development until it’s cancellation.
This makes me actually love the idea of Bagan being a shape shifter. And his white color scheme. Actually I'm just glad you're using Bagan at all.

I love that Tahtorak is in this, I rarely get combiners, but I got him recently because I love the reptilian bionicles. So far, Zilla is my favorite character in this series because I think the humor with him is the funniest in it, but I also really like the thin dragon one from this episode, I love how troll-y he is. Keep up the good work with the amazing Godzilla and Bionicle animations. You're portrayal of Ultraman is also great!

My personal headcanon is that Bagan was sent to purgatory after the Island of Unmade Godzilla Movies was blown up or was at least forced to find a new home. Now, he is hunting Godzilla to get revenge for never giving him the chance to be in a movie

The double reference to the giant kangaroo from Courage the Cowardly Dog and Duncan* the big green kangaroo from the Colossal Kaiju Combat videogame that failed to meet crowd funding goals and mismanagement by the developers.
(*NOTE: Duncan Roo is the fursona of an actual person that was added to CKC because he paid the appropriate tier to get it on to a list of possible kaiju publicly voted on to have added to the game. And I've chatted with him on Twitter about it so I can vouch for the game's failure not being his fault as quite a few folks have claimed.)

Nice. I had a few different ideas for the cameo but I wasn't certain if it should be more obvious or vague, and knowing the controversy and accusations around CKC, I feared it might be a touchy matter to some people. Also, mocking actual film characters from big companies is one thing, but it would have felt odd to poke fun at what is basically the OC of someone I don't know. So I decided on a safer option and re-modeled the kangaroo model I already had into the kangaroo monster from Courage, as that was the only official giant 'roo media character that I could find.
