Basically his criminal history was solicitation of murder. He went through a period where he cheated on his wife, and it snowballed into him trying to pay someone to murder her (although the man he tried to get to do so was an undercover police officer).
Now, while that was obviously unacceptable, he’s been showing serious remorse for his past, and has been trying to grow from it, and become a better person. One of the ways he’s been doing so is with Jake Luhrs of August Burns Red’s organization called Heart Support, which essentially takes former convicts and helps train them to assimilate back into the world - basically, helps them become productive members of society. Tim’s been working with them, as a former convict, to help other former convicts who feel lost in the world and don’t know what to do.
Essentially the entire Shaped By Fire album is about Tim’s remorse for his last wrongdoings.
That's why arguably I'd say Shaped by Fire is their best album. For pure energy, messages/lyrics

It was also attributed to his steroid use whether its true or not but he has openly admitted to using and his spiral happened in that time period its plausible but a lot of people have gotten past it even his ex wife accepted the apology

Phenomenal album
There was a point in time back in 2012 when Tim fell down a dark dark path, he got into bodybuilding and was pursueded to use steroids. From this, his vision and views became very clouded and he almost became a different person entirely, he was angry and hateful and worst of all, he lost his faith in God. Through this, he tried to find someone that would murder his wife while he was at the gym, so happened to be an undercover cop that he asked. He was sentenced to 6 years in prison and in those six years, the fog over his eyes lifted and he realized the mistakes he made. Initially the band wanted nothing to do with him, they hated him.. but after he reached out to them many times they eventually decided to listen to him. He basically told them that they deserve to feel this way, they're right, he was blinded and he couldn't understand what he was doing. But now, after years of remorse they figured what better way to spread their message of second chances than through their music. Tim regained his faith in God, he volunteers at the local prison to help teach and train convicts basic skills to help them get on their feet after leaving prison. As I lay dying are doing a world tour at the moment in the name of the foundation heart support to help other with mental health problems, they donate heavily to the cause. And finally Tim accepted his past, he knows he can't take it back, but he learned, and he grew from it, and paid the absolute price from it, and that's enough in the eyes of God.

You need to listen to Soilwork!!!!!!!! I subscribed just so I could tell you about them, Soilwork is one of the best unknown metal bands, you would love them, plus great to lift to!
As I lay dying is the best metalcore band on the planet period and has always been. But! A close second is Miss May I!! Check them out. Anything off the monument album is awesome! Specially the song “Colossal”.

It did. He did his time. He's trying to repent. If anyone who ever wanted someone dead were to be unforgiven... then most of us could be put into jail forever. Myself included. People can change. I have. My ex wife slept with one of my best friends. Trust me. I was seconds away from being one of the unforgiven. Mindsets change. If Tim didn't succeed in his heinous thoughts, he can redeem himself. Give him that chance.
