***** Funnily enough, in times gone by in the case of divorce a man would legally inherit the kids (at least in Victorian England) as the primary breadwinner and financially able to support them. It's only been with the rise of feminism that women have inherited the kids while the man pays child support for them. Also in a country that makes laws and social responsibilities that overwhelmingly burden men with colossal responsibilities to help protect women from the burdens and dangers of society - just look at William Blackhill's sentiment on the matter.
Feminism - the art of bitching how life is permanently unfair to half the population whilst ignoring reality. :P

Without men women would have to blame each other and they would. The need for a nemesis doesn't disappear just because one has slain the said nemesis. No it attaches itself on to the next best target. The momentum will keep searching out for a new enemy. Women are safe from other women as long as men exist as collective hate objects.

I'm beyond caring at this point. If I am considered "obsolete" then I'm totally fine with that. I'll just go back to playing video games and minding my own business as I always have. As far as I'm concerned there was never a competition to begin with, just a bunch of very unpleasant people shouting at me because I happened to be born with a penis and they're easily ignored.
I will fight to the death over my vidya games though >:(

Skippy19812 The problem is that its easy to lose freedom rather than to obtain it. If the men of the world don't address this neo-feminism view that people have and just let it build up, there could be serious consequences.
It's just like the rising of the Nazi party: people didn't care that Hitler was on a crusade against jews because it didn't affect them, until it did. But then the world had to go to war to get rid of this mindset, and this could be the start of a gender war. I don't want to meet a really nice girl, cute, funny, and hot I hope, and just ruin it all just because I say that it's stupid that men hate women.
I know you are joking, but this is something that is actually scaring me and other men, because it's getting to the point where being a neo-feminist is the norm, just like it was being a nazi in World War 2.
I know it's a bit exaggerated comparing neo-feminism with nazis, but it really isn't that far away from each other.

lol, Im sorry, but I chuckled a little at the thought of "women working together in harmony" in a future without men. At all the jobs I've worked at women were the first to badmouth other women and create the most conflict. These people that want to think "the decline of men" will bring forth some sort of utopia of cooperation and understanding are in for a treat if they get their wish come true.
That doesn't mean they were bad at their jobs, far from it. But most didnt miss the opportunity to scheme behind each other's backs about the most trivial shit imaginable. Not saying men don't do that, but holy shit women do it on a whole different level. It was some scary shit to imagine what they were saying about me when I wasn't in the room. :D

    • @WillieNero

Think about all the times you got to choose to work with men or work with women. It is always better to work with men. Hell, most women I know say they would rather work with men then other women.

Well, I don't mind the gender of the person working with me as long as they do a good job. My point was, some people want to blame men for the problems in the world and put women on a pedestal saying without men everything would be wonderful and all women would just all get along in some sort of utopian society. Thats not true at all.

The difference is that most men are used to hearing this.
When my dad was a boy, in the 1930s and 40s, only the rare lunatic said this kind of stuff.
When I was a boy, in the 1960s and 70s, I heard it everywhere: tv, radio, newspapers, magazines, even in comic books and real life.
Even then, most of us knew it was mindless venting. Its become a lot more extreme since then.
Today, a lot of young men and boys really do believe they're useless and that the world would be better off without them.
Suicide is the top killer of men and boys under 30. Its quite high in all men as far as that goes.
Without men, our society would collapse overnight.
Without women, it would take decades to collapse. In fact, we would have less violence too. Without women to fight over or even inciting fights, there's not much to fight over.

When a man tells a woman he is lonely, scared, lost, angry or insecure she tells him to grow up, be a man or ignores him. When the same man says he feels suicidal she lables him as a creep or crazy or talks down to him like a little baby. He can definately forget about sex or being in a relationship or keeping his relationship. Of course this is not all women but most women only care about their own feelings and are the complete opposite of empathetic. This is why some men only think women are good for one thing. If you cannot get emotional support then what good are you as a friend or lover. By the way this is also why some women like bad boys or to date jerks because those men rarely express any vulnerabilities. Then those men rise up in society and we end up in a violent world...thanks a lot ladies!

Reminds me of a quote by Camille Paglia: "There is no female Mozart because there is no female Jack the Ripper". I really can't stand how any man who does something wrong is an example of the evils of masculinity, yet when a man discovers Penicillin, invents general relativity, creates a culturally influential film, they are just good people, and if women weren't so oppressed they would be doing it even better.

I as a man I do feel that women are faultless, victims and in need of encouragement. Whereas men don't cry nor give up, need a woman, are flawed and need harsher criticism. This is the result of the rhetoric I have grown up with and cause of much pain and shame of being male. I guess men need to be oppressed to be sympathized with, as is the trend for the oppressed. It hurts to see women yell at me for being too masculine and then blame me for not being happy because their needs are not being met by virtue of my male nature. I'm thankful for this women airing on the side of maintaining respect in a flawed but socially abundant argument.

Actually there is a third option here in which the statement is somewhat true: that "male" and "female" both may be phased out, to a large extent. To just treat everyone like individuals (at least outside our romantic lives ;) ). In that case, men will keep doing what they excel at, and so will women... and so will the men and women who gender-bend.
Which is probably what you, and also most anti-feminists, think is a much better way to look at things. Gender certainly contributes to our wiring, and we can speak of it "as a rule", but its purpose is diminishing. We no longer have such scarcity that we need to specialize the genders beyond what they really want... so why should we?

I went to therapy with a female therapist, Susan Captein, here in Portland OR. She told me: "men are superfluous", and she believed that I should agree with her. I have filed a complaint with the State of Oregon. You can find specifics here: www.yelp.com/biz/susan-captein-lcsw-portland
I have sympathy for the experiences of trauma that induced Ms. Captain's categorical bias against my gender. However, it is inappropriate for her to work with men, whom she considers to be fundamentally less than women. In the therapeutic context the therapist must create a space in which it is safe for the client to address their issues. To be categorically denounced as belonging to a group (men), who are "superfluous" is, to put it mildly, counterproductive to creating an environment in which effective therapy can occur.
While I am a man, my primary identification s as a human being, first and foremost. As such I find the rabid defenders on both sides of the "gender wars" problematic. No human being is either obsolete or superfluous.

The sad thing is, the question should not be are men obsolete, but "are men needed?"
Truth is, we men have been told too many times that we aren't.
We now live in a society that favors women so far past the scale of equality that men are realizing just how unfair, unjust the system is.
So, can you imagine a world where men are constantly being told that they aren't needed and men saying, "Okay, have it your way, you are on your own."?
That is the reality that women are facing now. Men are now saying, I am not going to play this game anymore, not with these rules. Marriage, relationships, even jobs and education.

When I hear these claims that men are obsolete, the first thing that comes to mind is "She probably just got dumped." In all honesty, the only times I hear women complaining about men is when women aren't getting what they want. It's like an angry child who's been told she cannot have candy, so she stomps her foot and says "Well, I didn't really WANT candy anyway!" and storms off.

    The gender wars is stupid.
Men and women are biologically different and those differences manifest in different ways.
That doesn't mean however that either is incapable of blurring the lines and performing tasks and roles which the other may normally excel in.
Ultimately it comes down to the individual's choices.

If we made a bell curve of each sex compared to inherent characteristics like aggression, empathy, etc., we might find overall, statistically-significant differences between the sexes, but I would hypothesis that there would also be a lot of overlap. A successful society allows the individual to engage in the roll they are most viable in. A nurturing man would be better as a care-taker than a miner. An aggressive woman would be better as a cop than a waitress. Moreover, people who try either forcing individuals in traditional gender-roles or forcing people to break them are not allowing the individual to thrive in the environment they need to be in.

Focus on yourself and surrounding yourself with people who make you happy- falling in love isn't something you necessarily need, but having people you can rely on to support you is definitely an asset. Don't throw the whole gender out to pasture just yet; there might be a friend worth having in there.

Sure we all would like to be nurtured by women like babies... it feels nice. But one day we all have to grow up and realise that it's up to you to care for others or be on your own cause as a man ain't no-one going to care for you. You either accept being on your own or a slave to a females needs for the sake of enabling her to nurture kids.

What exactly, does a woman sacrifice, to get a man, that is not equally replaced (often with more) by that man?
My mom cared for me once. But I grew up and that stopped once I left home. For me and most men that is the end of "care" of the kind that benefits in any material way.
Men then have to go on in their lives sacrificing for little more than the deluded belief that a woman loves them and a conduit to having kids. In reality though when that man is dead or they are seperated, she will have a far easier time moving on than he will without her, and probably own all or half his stuff.
What does a man really need from a woman that he can't obtain for himself or from other men... other than the other half of a reproductive equation? Genuine question.

  • @psychoh13
    @psychoh13 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

Christina, I'm extremely disappointed that you would entertain the question without even looking at the language used. When are we using the word "obsolete"? Simple, we use that word for machines, we use it for appliances, we use it for devices, we do not use it for human beings. Underlying this question is the deep seeded misandry that men are just utilities for the benefit of women, and throughout this video, that's how you treated the subject: men are the laborers, men are the doers, and they are still necessary in those jobs, so at the moment we still need them right? I'm not going to change my phone now, it's the top of the line, but when the next one comes out, mine will be obsolete, and I'll just throw in the trash. This is disgusting.
And no, clearly no, women would not be happy without men, and they would certainly not put on weight, because there would be no men around to transport the food directly to their tables in their well-lit apartment with their nicely regulated air conditioning and their running water. Clearly, if men were not here, women would just lose all their comfort and they are treating us like appliances, blaming every ills of society on men, and inventing non-issues like man spreading to add more to their bigoted and vile sexism.

    • @ArtistLunatalia
      @ArtistLunatalia 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

psychoh13 Yes, I was astounded by this use of language. The narrative: Women don't want to do these dirty jobs, therefore we need men.
Good to know what my use is.
""Woman was an idol of belly-magic. She seemed to swell and give birth by her own law. From the beginning of time, woman has seemed an uncanny being. Man honored but feared her. She was the black maw that had spat him forth and would devour him anew. Men, bonding together, invented culture as a defense against female nature. Sky-cult was the most sophisticated step in this process, for its switch of the creative locus from earth to sky is a shift from belly-magic to head-magic. And from this defensive head-magic has come the spectacular glory of male civilization, which has lifted woman with it. The very language and logic modern woman uses to assail patriarchal culture were the invention of men." "

Great video! One thing that I cannot mention enough is the overtaking (especially in academia) of feelings over facts, which is sadly happening more and more. Whether it be students, researchers, staff, or faculty, we should cherish facts over feelings as that's where learning starts. The "my learning ends where my feelings begin" should die already, and sadly that is not happening. While I do love great educators, PC correctness shouldn't limit educational institutions. Students (and staff) are taking advantage of these loop holes constantly (I know I've been a victim of it myself). Imagine being banned from a class because you were being taught false information as if it were true, and spoke up about it to correct them politely. That's not how a university should be!

    Part A
    vs
    Part B
Part B drives automobiles built by Part A, walks streets and sidewalks, eats food grown by Part A.
Then claims to be independent of Part A.
Furthermore: In material philosophy there's a notion that part B is incapable of higher thinking due to the fact that Part B derives or acquires her status via sexual attractiveness.
The entire persona of Part B is based on the sexual.
    Enter the term "sexual transmutation"
This philosophy suggests that higher reasoning can only be attained by transformation of sexual energy into production (building) or reasoning. (Arts, philosophy, science)
Part A, time and again must leave the realm of sexual pursuit for necessities of life and the pursuit of material things.
Agriculture arose from this and with that the industrial revolution.
Part B's roll in all of it was the sexual attractiveness that she used to acquire the things that Part A strove for.
Part A's pursuits within the material world were apart from sexual conquest and survival required that.
Part B survival need only be sexual. Secondary reasoning, Secondary problem solving.
This truth makes part A vastly superior in intellect and survival.
Part B claiming that she is wholeheartedly independent of Part A is a fallacy

Great video! I don't understand why people focus so much on men vs. women when there are so many things that define a human being.
I'm a girl and there are plenty of girls I get along with very well and understand: we share the same interests, have similar ideas, etc. But there are also a lot who I don't understand and they seem like aliens to me because I have so little in common with them. There are guys who I have lots of things in common with and get along with well and some who I don't understand at all.
Variety is the spice of life. If it were only girls, that would be boring. If it were only guys, that would also be boring.
And it's the same with other traits. If everyone had the same sexuality, were of the same race, were all extraverts or introverts, had the same taste in music, had the same goals, etc...that would be boring.
Yes, there are differences between men and women, both biological and psychological. However, that's not the only thing. There are also differences between sexual people and asexual people. And differences between extraverts and introverts. And differences between older people and younger people. Plus lots of others.
And they're all okay. One's not always better or worse than the other in any of those cases. No one should think it'd be fine if men (or women, for that matter) all disappeared and it's the same as it wouldn't be fine if all introverts, all heterosexuals, or all white people (or whatever else) disappeared.
Acknowledging differences is totally fine. Acting as if one if better than the other and establishing all these hierarchies is not fine.

"For most of human history, men have been the dominant sex..."
There are two groups of people. One of them works, sacrifices, bears the unbearable and risks life, limb & eyesight for the benefit of the other. The other takes a passive position, accepting the work and offerings of the first. Between the server and the served (and allowing for minor, random deviations and outliers where this is not the case), who is truly dominant?
And that society of fat, happy women would collapse into chaos and starvation the first time a hurricane or earthquake leveled a city. Because without construction workers, engineers, laborers and the ones doing the dirty & dangerous jobs, buildings collapse, water stops flowing and electricity disappears.

The fact that there are intellectual feminist such as Christina Summers fills me each time when i see one with joy. It gives me a bit of hope that even though the big thing now a days for feminists/SJW is absolute equality, there are still those people who knows that men and women depend on each other. Men will probably fuck shit up and so will women, but there will be those people that instead of spitting in their face as they lie down knowing what the did didnt ad up or work who will instead reach out to them and say "its oke it didnt work, but if you change it a bit, maybe it will next time, yet until then i dont want to see you give up".

Seriously....emotional intelligence doesn't determine logical capabilities. It just means the ability to keep stock of one's own emotions as well as those of others. Mercedes Carrera has an engineering degree. A fine example of women's abilities to be "goodzz at math or dat fanci logyk." There are also women doctors, chemists, and scientists.
Don't attribute your own meaning to something if you don't quite understand it.
As for the psychologist thing, I don't think emotionally intelligent is quite the same thing as emotional. I'm pretty sure psychologists need to be in control of their emotions enough not to let their patients issues affect them too harshly or their judgement. It makes sense that most psychologists would be males, as men's emotions tend to be less outwardly visible than women. As for the great part that's subjective to your own opinions.
Men are probably less likely to seek help in suicidal situations because they worry it will ruin their image (professionally or socially) or be embarrassing. I would encourage anyone having suicidal thoughts to seek professional help. There are people trained to help you through hard times like that.

Honestly here's the extremely complex ideology that the modern world cannot seem to grasp: Males and Females (as well as people in general) are different. There are absolutely no ways around that, but just because we are different doesn't mean we CAN'T BE EQUAL. WHY CAN'T SOCIETY JUST UNDERSTAND THAT? Thank you for being someone who understands that. I really love your videos and the ideas that they provide.

Being myself a men that doesn't fit most stereotypes, I kind of take offense when you characterize men as this and women as that. I think that as society becomes safer and more technologically advanced, some traits characterized as (but far from being) exclusively masculine, such as aggression, will become naturally milder as consequence.
Just as women collectively had to learn to be more assertive, more rational and more competitive in order to survive and thrive in the job market, it's only natural that as predetermined gender roles cease to be necessary their characterizing traits diminish.
This pattern is even seen in nature. For example, lions have drastically altered behavior when in a safe and plentiful habitat when compared to a harsh one. One of the most significant traits is how the males become more family oriented and patient and playful with cubs. In fact, the only reason why this hasn't happened more drastically in our society yet is because one of the gender roles men are expected to have is to repress their emotions and, therefore, take much longer to get in touch with their own frustrations than women, whose gender role was to be in touch with their emotions from the get go. That explains why women were more capable to take the first step since the source of the problem for both genders is of an emotional nature.
I assure you that men were (and still are) just as frustrated with the traditional gender expectations as women were. The generalization that men are this and women are that are extremely narrow in my perception as if men were incapable of developing more empathy, verbal intelligence and emotional maturity as it becomes more socially accepted and/or required. Men surely don't inherently lack the capacity. After all, many if not most of the greatest writers, philosophers, artists, trailblazers in psychology and so on were men.
I think the big mistake is the assumption that people are limited to what the stereotype of the gender is, which greatly underestimate a person's or a class of people's ability to adapt, grow and change. Women did it. There's no reason to assume men lack the ability to adjust to new paradigms. Gender roles are not a predetermination of what you can be. They were actually designed to stop you from being all that you are to better serve the species. And that's the gift of the society of the future. The possibility for both men and women to be exactly who they are on an individual level without being limited by their specific gender roles.

This is by far, the best feminist stuff I've ever heard... only Because it's all facts and logic, I hope all feminists are like this, but unfortunately, nearly all of them are not.
