Installing a soapstone stove soon. Waited years and got very lucky finding one of the last Hearthstone Tributes, now discontinued. This is a beautiful cookstove, but my wife used wood for a family of four for many years. Cooking, hot water, heat. You choose wisely. Yes chimney install is a big factor. Installing mine myself saves 80% cost. Wood heat is mission critical. Life or death critical.
hey Simona, having now lived with it for a couple of years I love it even more! It heats the whole house, and I often have to crack the patio door to let a little heat out. I love that I can throw a chicken in a dutch oven and slow roast it on a cold afternoon and leave a stockpot on the stovetop and make soup for the week and it takes no effort or energy to do those few things while I am heating the house.
Your place and the stove are awesome! Very informative video. I thought at the end you were gonna say the dog died or something with that music... glad all is good!
I made 2 mode changes, I shortened the heated brick on the above to create a better heat transfer and added a key on the flu 10 inches above the stove top.
A beautiful kitchen. How much is a stove like that? You can record a detailed video of the kitchen's construction. There are no such stoves in Vietnam.
@@cbeyre go to any home hardware store and they can order it for you. Or one very much like it from the same company...or contact JA Roby in the link and ask them. I know you can get them in BC.
I have not checked in the last few years since we installed this cooking woodstove, so there could be more brands available now that meet EPA emissions values. So what makes this stove rated as it is for EPA certification is more government regulations. These things may or may not be important to anyone. It was a plus for me, only because we seem to becoming an ever regulated society and I just want to keep cooking on my woodstove and not get regulated out of having it.
Keep in mind that I've only used it for a couple weeks, that being said, so far so good th-cam.com/users/postUgkxAU9pOCSV9Y5JprooHvfxTpOrt4hx8uRM . Using it at 8 ft. by 8ft. deer blind that is insulated. I have to keep the door cracked for it to get enough air to burn, but that is very likely the wood I've used. Much better quality than I expected for the price. Now if I can just take it easy in the beginning it won't be 90 degrees in my blind. All in all it seems like a keeper.
Hello, I'm wondering how the removable lids work on the stove. What happens when you remove them? Do they give you flame access? Do you put your pots and pans on top of them, or do you remove them first? I mean, does lid removal give you faster access to heat? Thank you in advance for your reply!
No removing the lids does not place the pan directly on the flame. But it does get your cast iron pan a wee bit closer to the heat source. I have no problem getting a very hot pan. As I said in a previous reply, if your off grid, and this is your only cooking source, there might be better "cooking" models out there. But if you want a combination of good cooking, great heating, aesthetically pleasing, this stove offers it all.
We installed the stove mid Jan 2018, so we used it a season and half. We had a chimneysweep come in this summer and check out everything to see if we were getting build up etc. He suggests we sweep every other year. But that is because I burn hard wood, burn hot and don't burn garbage wood or paper in the stove. It depends on what you burn and how you burn.
Debating between your model jA Roby and a La Nordica America. Does the JA Roby have convection side panels? Also are the side panels sheet metal or steel, or cast iron. Last I've seen warrenty say 20 year limited and life time limited. Can answer this questions please and thank you.
Hi! Thank you for taking the time to film and post the video. We are hesitating between the cuistot (which is the version without the water tank) and the chief. Do you find the water tank really useful? Do you cook a lot on it? Bread? Thanks again! Can't wait to have mine!
sorry I missed your question till now. I do find the tank useful if there is a large gathering. Our version does not heat the water to boiling. But how we use it, is to fill it with boiling water and it keeps the water very hot for large numbers for tea. It is an easily cleanable stainless style container with a cover, and I have heard of others who use it for soup, or even hotdogs for 50! We however only have used it for hot water. I make sourdough bread and it does do a good job, but your really have to have your fire hot to get that flash heat that sourdough seems to need to do that jump rise that it needs. Other types of bread are really easy. We love it for rustic pizza, and just as a second oven for those large holiday dinners. In the winter I always have stock simmering so yes we use the stove top a lot. And of course the fire adds so much warmth and takes the damp out of the air even now in April on those chili spring mornings. It looks nice too... :) so that gives me a lot of joy in the dead of summer! It is not our only oven, so for some folks who might be off the grid, there might be better woodfire overns out there, but for our needs here on the farm it was the best choice and I have no regrets at all!
@@scottishpet Thank you so much! In the mean time, we did buy the Elda model (the same as yours but without the back and water tank) and we are super satisfied! Thanks again!
How is the draw? I have the smaller version and its tricky to start a fire in . I have too get it very hot to get the stove to draw enough to keep fire going.
Billy I have had no trouble at all. It takes about 30-45 mins of good burning and the oven is ready for something like roasting a chicken. Stove top...never an issue at all. Soup is always simmering. I love how functional it really is.
Can you tell me what this stove cost or vive me the link to who sells it. BTW I have the same stone wall where our blaze king is sitting. I want the cook stove for a shop.
I have so many questions that I hope you can answer as an owner. Do you have to drive the stove hard to maintain an oven temperature of 350 degrees F? Also, once you are done cooking, how long can you keep a fire going on a full firebox? I am torn between this stove or the Cuisiniere? This stove in the Cuistot would fit my needs better, but I fear the firefox is not large enough for an 8 hour burn time? My heating needs are for a fairly open 1280 Sq Ft. home, and well insulated. Thank you for your time.
Hi Robert, just found your question. We often will stoke the firebox up with wood and over 8 hours later we still have coals in the morning to restart. Those really cold winter nights it is wonderful. So much depends on your layout and where in the world you are located and how cold it gets etc, but we have about the same sq. footage on the main level and we are open as well. Cooking again is dependant on many factors, but we do not find it hard at all to maintain a good even oven temp. 350 is not a really hot oven, so that is not too difficult at all.
Back up power out snow storm or otherwise storm wouldn't hurt have back up one room or bigger enough kitchen so this fit next too electronic oven. But not hurt some in some smaller way in rest of home never hurt back up when eletric oven.
it has removable plates, but it does not allow pot to touch the fire directly. I cook with cast iron the stove top and placing a pan in the section the top is removed helps it get hotter. No problems cooking on it at all.
Thanks for the video are you still happy with this cook stove. I've been looking for one that is EPA approved not easy to find. I was chocked when you said it was made in Quebec where I live! Thanks again.
Still very happy with it. Probably the only reason I look forward to winter is that it is also woodstove season! Love the smell of the wood and the warmth of the fire. Love having bone broth simmering all the time, and bread rising on top of the warming cupboard, I love cooking on it and living with it...yep...love love love it!
Enjoyed your video. The accompanying music was too loud and very annoying. In future please keep the music down very low so we can hear the dialogue. Great stove. Thanks for the info.
I make sourdough bread a lot. Temp about 425, I spin the loaf about half way though, but I am not sure i need to. The hot water reservoir does not boil the water. I think there are several ways to hook it up, up i have it just as a reservoir, put boiling water in it and it keeps it hot which is nice if there is a lot of folks around, their is plenty for multi cups of tea.
Not sure if you are asking if it is legal? But yes it was installed and certified by all the right folks to make sure it is satisfactorily appropriate for all levels of bureaucracy. JA Rory is also the only cookstove that meets EPA standards…at least at the time when I was searching. There may be more out there now that I am not aware of.

But I live in rural Ontario and power outages happen here. Each person has to choose for themselves what is important to them in their life. For us, this was important for so many reasons.
