    My washer is still washing fine even almost 2 decades of use every week.
    I still don't know the repalcement washer until the maytag dies, but it's going to be nothing that would explode during the spin cycle like some of the new models.
    The modern mc hoods might have those modern washers in the laundry room.

      Ours gets a good bit of use, and is still working after 25 years. Look into either a Speed Queen or a vintage machine. EVERY McMansion has a MillenniWasher in it, except the 2% who have a Speed Queen.

      @@isaac24 There is a high chance that the future washer would be new out of the box. If my parents don't mind buying a Speed Queen from a locally owned appliance store, then it would give the feel of the Maytag. My local family members live in normal houses and they have a milleni washer except for one of them whose got a Maytag front load washer from 2008 which still works.

    That's another thing I like about these. If you notice when the spin cycle stops, it takes a second or two before the motor centrifugal switch drops out. Almost every other machine I have heard drops out almost immediately.

  • @andrewg593
    @andrewg593 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wait a minute. Where's the load sensing? Using SO MUCH WATER!!! There's no way the towels could be clean in 40 minutes!!!
    Did an excellent job like always. Maytags are unstoppable. No machine will ever come close to the quality of these. Except maybe the old Whirlpool belt drives.
    Damper pads are definitely worn. The machine is shaking way too much and is making a metallic sound. Just keeps going though. Any HE machine would have exploded immediately and taken the whole house with it.
    That sound in the dryer could be either the rollers, the idler pulley, or possibly the blower wheel is stripped out. Your dryer is easier to repair than my 2006 was which is why it was replaced.

    • @isaac24
      @isaac24  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The load sensing sped out of here in a BMW X5. I hope that this machine, by itself, causes climate change.
      Yeah, they got it just right with these. Direct-drives from this time are also great, but in a different aspect. I think the Whirlpool belt drives are my favorite washers ever produced. Maybe. I like the Kenmore ones because of the control panel design.
      It was shaking because that green bath mat absorbs water like you wouldn't believe. It's always done that to whatever load I put it in. Yep, this machine didn't even break a sweat. Granted, I wouldn't let it run for an hour like that, but still. As you saw in the clip I inserted of the GE washer, yep, walking across the floor. It would have taken the McMansion with it. Good, we need less of those. Even though I consider my house McMansion, it's not very McMansion like, minus the archway in the front. The rooms are all large, and it looks that way from the outside. Typical McMansions look very big from the outside and have very tiny rooms inside.
      That's what I was thinking. I've never done a single repair on it, so that could be an upcoming video.

    • @andrewg593
      @andrewg593 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@isaac24 Direct drives are really nice. Not quite as durable as these but very easy to repair. The belt drives are hands down the best machines ever produced. Built like tanks. Whirlpool should have kept that design.
      This machine could spin like that for an hour no problem. Although I do believe your damper pads are a bit worn down. The McMansion that GE was in would have exploded just like the machine itself. Such lackluster build quality. I never understood why these McMansions have totally open floor plans. I like defined rooms myself.
      Does the dryer make that sound if you run it on air fluff? Try to listen and see if you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from. It sounds to me like the blower wheel but you said the noise stops once it warms up. This doesn't sound like bad rollers but it's possible. My dryer made terrible squealing noises with bad rollers.

    • @isaac24
      @isaac24  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. They are also quite a bit more common than this, because they were made for longer, and cheaper. They have better performance in cleaning ability (by a slight edge) but require more expensive fixes. I think that if a certain government hadn't intervened, they would still be making direct-drives. The belt-drives are more muscular than a direct-drive, no questions asked. It's like a 70's muscle car vs. a Chevette, but a direct-drive is more powerful than that. I don't know why they stopped making the belt drives, but it may have been that they just wanted a redesign. I think they also clean better, and are more gentle, especially with the PentaSwirl. And the sounds that they make are not even a question, the woo-woo's are always going to beat the chucka-chucka-chucka. Personal preference, though.
      They probably are, they've never been replaced. I'm surprised that the GE in that video hadn't walked itself to the curb. I hate open floor plans, and looked at houses with them. This house does feel more open than our old one, but that could also be because the ceilings are 10 feet throughout the entire first floor. The room are pretty separated, though.
      I don't think it does. It only does it if you have a heavy load, like towels. It almost never does it with regular clothes. Although this isn't a squealing, it's more of a squeaking.

    • @andrewg593
      @andrewg593 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@isaac24 I'm pretty sure the direct drives are the most produced top loader ever. These were made for almost 60 years. Direct drives were only made for about 30. No question the belt drives are very powerful machines. I think they were discontinued because they were so expensive to manufacture and not the easiest to service. The woo woo is awesome but it's hard to beat the low speed motor hum of a Maytag. Both are much better than the direct drive in that regard.
      Damper pads are not an easy job. The machine will probably run like that without issue though. If you were to move the tub around, does it feel like metal on metal? If so, then the pads are shot. Open floor plans SUCK. I like to know where the living room and the kitchen are. Not have it all be a wide open space. It seems like dining rooms don't exist anymore either. Everyone eats in the kitchen now I guess. Before too long, there won't even be bedrooms. The GE will walk to the place it was purchased from if the owner let it.
      I'm guessing the idler pulley. Might be a good idea to do an overhaul. Replace both rollers and roller shafts, idler pulley, belt, and possibly even the front glides. The dryer will run for many more years after that. Not the easiest dryer to service, but certainly much easier than the newer design like mine was.

    • @isaac24
      @isaac24  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you are right on that. The low speed Maytag does sound nice. I want to get one with the Pitman transmission.
      No, it just "sits there" like a machine with suspension does. I don't care either way about formal dining rooms, the house I grew up in from 1964 didn't have one. Our house now does, though. Yeah, tiny houses will be the new McMansions.
      That might be something to do in the summer, when I have some time. I plan on keeping it for a while. The only thing that could happen, is if if I can find the matching dryer to the washer, regardless if it's electric or gas (I can do both), I'll switch it out. I'll switch to gas if the price is right with those. When we took the control panel off of that one Maytag, it had "off balance problems" or so the guy said. He had the matching dryer, gas. I wanted to take it.
