It's bad writing in the sense that Kidd probably should have had a lot less or more screen time. Kidd in general had okay writing outside of the point of his character being a little less clear.

I think the whole thing with Kidd being after Kaido and deciding to go after Big Mom with Law instead was Oda’s way of showing Kid bending the knee to the goat with the coat, the future pirate king, Monkey massive d Luffy. Since Kidd would never say or admit it, Kidd trusting in Luffy to handle Kaido was a big deal. The respect that Luffy is able to garner from everyone around him, including his peers and rivals is what sets him apart and makes him a Yonko/future pirate king and Kidd leaving Kaido to Luffy despite his grudge is a perfect example. I just wish Oda was less subtle with it. Mihawk saw it back at Marineford.
That being said I just finished the video and do somewhat agree with KOL, I think comparing him to the bandit is harsh. He did kind of have bandit energy in Sabondy but I think he’s come a long way since then.

Kaidou wrecked Kid, put him in jail, and is responsible for Killers condition. But people forget this and excuse this saying its because "Kid was never that guy" and then they use that to justify Kid "not being that guy" in the future. When really its just Odas fault for building up his character poorly. But Dont get me wrong when I and most people say Bad Writing its an exagerration. Cause even the bad writing in One Piece is better than most other Shounen. Its simply sub-par writing. It holds but it has a weak foundation.
i like the parallel of law and kid both fighting emporers. Law learned the importance of haki and used it in his fight, while kid is still just relying on his devil fruit.

This chapter did nothing wrong. The “bad writing” occurred back in Wano when Kid utterly failed to live up to the expectations Oda set for him as a rival to Luffy. Like, there are now people who straight up think he would lose to Sanji. That is insane. In one arc, he went from Luffy’s rival to Sanji’s rival. That’s how low his reputation has fallen.
Was he tho, did oda ever actually state that kidd was his rival. I mean there where implications back in the prison that they could be rivals but it was pretty clear from early on in the fight that he lack a lot of what luffy had also what if he never intended for him to rival luffy in the first place how would it be bad writing if he never planned to do that in the first place
I understand both sides of the argument but I think Oda kinda screwed this up slightly and just wanted to write out Kidd and show that "bad" pirates will always get destroyed by the "good" ones In my mind Oda should've gone a different route with Kidd here similar to Bellamy earlier in the series given some edits to the previous arc as well. I didn't love how Luffy went from being one shot to beating Kaido in like a month just due to some minor haki training then a crazy awakening which should've destroyed his stamina so I think having multiple people team up to beat Kaido as well as Big Mom would've been better. However, Kidd has conquer so maybe he will power scale similarly after this defeat?? See below for my notes on the Kaido fight and the Kidd/Shanks meeting. First Kidd has always been stubborn and ready to die at any cost since he's one of the few that has stood up and taken on high powered people throughout the story even though he always takes an L. So as KoL says Kidd letting Luffy take on Kaido alone felt dumb and off base. Kidd needed to stay with Luffy and at least help in the defeat of Kaido directly to avenge his first loss and Killer's condition. Personally would've liked for him to use his magnet powers on the massive sword on the island to pierce Kaido?? Anyways then Kidd still goes after Shanks the same way but instead Shanks jumps to the boat and his haki knocks everyone out but Kidd and Killer who struggle to withstand it. Then Shanks directs his attack to only de-arm Kidd and drags them to an isolated part of the island. Lucky Roo can show off his speed saving the rest of his crew before the ship gets wiped out by the giants. Shanks then gives Kidd an ultimatum to either fight and die or turn to a life of "good nature", join him, and train until he calls upon him because a war is coming and Shanks needs Kidd's power to help the efforts. Then maybe Kidd tries to take on Shanks but is stopped and fought by Beckman who took his arm until Kidd realizes he's no match. This prompts Kidd to understand having friends and being "good" creates more power than the life he's been living (flashbacks to Luffy and his crew plus all the others he influenced helping out) and gives in to turning over a new leaf followed by training with Beckman for the foreseeable future. Doing this would also highlight how spending time around the Nika fruit bends people to being "good natured/friendly" and joining forces as was explained as the fruit's most terrifying power. Also if you want to see some cool speculation stuff about Kidd's power scaling or possible reasons why Shanks could one shot Kidd so easily refer to the @ST L comment. I agree with a lot he says. Including how characters being caught off guard which we've seen in a lot of other manga can result in deaths, dismemberment, or just large damage.
As much as I enjoy Oda's work, I do believe it was bad writing for Kidd to go after Big Mom when his true enemy was in front of him. It made no sense. Now, if Big Mom was going to kill Killer, or she started playing with the souls of his crew, it would have made more sense to me. It would have better characterized Kidd and his crew. As is though, I think it was poorly written, but in Oda's defense poorly written stuff is bound to happen. I can't imagine how tough it must be to drop as good of stuff as he does weekly for over decades.

Oda bigged this guy up for over a decade for him to be more underwhelming than any character in recent memory….. dude legit never even had a solo moment when quite literally everyone else including Apoo and Hawkins have. His ship is gone now so just take him out of the story no one wants to see him anymore and if he does something like come back and sneak attack Shanks it’s just like what’s the point? I agree that Kid served his purpose. He was also the only other direct competitor to Luffy outside of Blackbeard. Law nor Shanks want to be the King of the Pirates. They are moreso interested in the void century(Law and shanks) and friends/family(shanks)....also they are allies to Luffy and probably won't ever fight each other seriously...though I would pay good money to see Zoro and Shanks get a good sparring session in down the line.
I want to believe Oda has a plan for Kid simply due to him having Conqueror’s Haki, and this devastating defeat will result in a haki bloom. He doesn’t give that ability to scrubs, and it wouldn’t make sense for Oda to off Kid without him ever showcasing it. Oda gave him the traits of a conqueror for a reason.
Nah, Kid is done. He has potential, but he's not the type to train and hone his haki. He's too one-dimensional being devil fruit dependant. He's too reckless, thoughtless, and lacks survivability when it comes to the end battles. He's lacking so much that it's very unlikely he'd catch up even if he survives, and I do believe he will survive. But he has been conquered. Conquerors can be conquered, too. Kid was being saved for this moment.
Honestly, my theory is that Kid was suppose to have the importance and portrayal that Law has but when Oda saw Law's popularity skyrocket to Strawhat levels he switched them. LOL

My issue is that luffa is gonna be like the only great pirate to have no rivals. Roger and whitebeard clashed many times over the years. Everyone puffy faces he beats and moves on. I know people say law is new W.B but even he and and Liffey didn’t fight they joined up up to be kaido.
I have several points to add to the power scaling conversation: 1. Kid is a very defensive fighter, he usually surrounds himself with scrap to take damage in his stead, the only true damage I can remember he took on the roof top was the living lightning strike from Big Mom where it was a low damage (for a Yonko class fighter) AOE attack that everyone (who weren't Luffy and Law) tanked without a problem. 2. In the two vs one fight against Big Mom, he took the most damage from Killer's attacks against Hawkins (which I think is weak by design in order to mitigate damage against his own captain) and Hawkins himself hitting his head into the building (which to a fighter on the level of Kid is annoying at best), during which Law was taking the blunt of Big Mom's assault. Big Mom herself also proved to be a highly emotional fighter who only uses decisive moves against enemies that deserve them in her mind (Page One and Ulti), a struggling Law and a distracted Kid is hardly worth her strongest attacks (which is the case with almost all of the Yonko class fighters, Kaidou pull out stronger attacks only after finding a worth opponent, so did Luffy on Egghead refusing to use Gear 5th and COC coating against the Seraphim), by the time she gets serious (on screen) her attacks gets intercepted and was put in the defensive position soon after Kid and Law uses their Awakening, it is hard to say if both of them was down after because of the damage they sustained during the fight or because of the ability usage and Awakening drained them of their stamina. 3. Kid's Damned Punk could have put him into a most vulnerable state due to the long charge time and concentration required, there might also be a level of Haki infusion in to the cannon's frame that leaves his body exposed to danger, that is why he only uses them in conjunction with allies' covering his position, for his Haki control cannot protect him fast enough to intercept surprise attacks. We have seen even Yonko class character like Oden getting one-shotted when distracted, and commander minus level character like Kinemon survive COC coating attacks when focused. 4. Shanks was desperate to save his allies from total annihilation, leaving him with very little room to held back his swing, making this a decisive level attack on a far higher magnitude than a Thunder Bagua from Kaidou (more equal to his Fire Drum Dragon form if anything), it is arguable anyone can take an attack like that head on without fainting (high level fights involve a lot of dodging, as a serious Kaidou had shown). 5. It is very possible that Kid and Killer were only knocked out for a few minutes, and could theoretically get up and in fighting shape again if they were not immediately nuked by a Hakoku Soveignty immediately after, it happens to Luffy all the time when he lose consciousness in the middle of conflict. 6. COC infusion attacks may have a side effect of knocking people out if they are not sufficiently protected with their own Haki coating.
The great thing about this is, either way, Kid is gonna be a much better character in the future if he survives this! And if he didn't, it's still sick ngl😂
I know oda is trying to portray kidd as unluckiest pirate but come on, he's one of supernova of the new generation. I don't like him going down easily. And I hate how the whole fandom is calling him "mid".. it's such a sad thing to witness that I wanna leave this fandom

Please be Law on that Black beard ship greatest shout I've heard. Oda make it happen. Law + Kuzan= formidable. Plus could prove or disprove a lot of Theory's and sub plots.
Every pirates in the One Piece world does have a goal to become a Pirate King, its not just limited to Luffy. The story of One Piece is we follow Luffy's perspective and adventure to the goal. Kid is like the representative of the other pirates who went after the same goal and failed (which is how we see a lot of them either dead or under a big pirates banner). We didn't see the adventure of other pirates but we see it through Kid's story. A pirate from somewhere trying to make a big name of themselves trying to reach One Piece but was overwhelmed/defeated by another pirate in the end. I'm sure other pirates also have their moment of win and lose before finally gave up. The way to the goal is the same, defeat big names to get the Lode Poneglyph. Only difference is the method to do it.
Yo I'm never going to forget that translation of when Kidd shot Big Mom with that beam and she looked at Law and said, " As soon as this gets done tickling me😂" That right there was a violation
I've been watching KOL for 12 years and he's easily my favorite TH-camr, I agree with his takes 8/10 times, but I've NEVER seen him meat ride a character as hard as Shanks. The power scaling is OBJECTIVELY bad, the portrayal and how it was handled was poor. It's Oda's fault people think Kid is useless, when he's set up an expectation that could never be met. I used to love Shanks and I was hyped when I saw divine departure, but this fandom has just gone too far. but hype and agenda>logic as always. They were right. It was always about the agenda...But hey, he's just a Blackbeard and DAMNED ONE JIKA victim in the end.
KOL wanking Shanks is funny but so far he’s been correct. Kidd should’ve never been implemented into the story tho just terrible decisions by Oda. If he was going to go this route Luffy should’ve been the one to knock him out of the race.

In all my years following this community I have never seen even the most die hard Kidd fan say that he had a chance of being pirate king KOL, most of the time what people mean as Luffy's rival is akin to what Shiki was. But putting most of the other points aside, since that would make this post way too long, I dont think Kid losing is bad writting per se, but him not pulling himself back together or even dying is and thats for one single reason, chapter 1k. Oden's prophecy states that the pirates that would come and defeat Kaido would be the ones leading the next gen, and Kid is one of them, so it makes no sense for him to be included in such group that includes the next pirate king and possibly this gen's Whitebeard, but then become a nobody just a few weeks. And the justification for that is Kid being a violent pirate? when people like Rocks, Blackbeard and Kaido are all way more savage than him but are all still legends? To me that sounds like straight up self insert mary sue activity for Shanks ngl, so for the sake of the story I hope Kid bounces back during the Elbaf arc

I just wanted to see more about kid. I liked the Law/Kid/Luffy dinamic. But Kid wasnt ever a noble guy, or the strongest or even had a good rivarly with anyone. When I saw him going for shank I just thought "How and will he survive? I hope so..." But win? Never.
That is why Law is my favorite character. He has the sauce, he has the rizz, he has the drip, he has the sad backstory and most importantly he has the heart. Law is that Dude. He has done so much for the gang, it’d be a crime if we don’t see him in the final war.
I think it's great story telling. Kid and Law were set up to show how powerful Luffy and his crew really are in comparison. We've known for a long time that Kid and Law have to combine their power in order in order to match Luffy, and we've seen it twice now in fact. Once with the Pacifista and now with the Yonko. The three of them were meant to show the younger generation overcoming the older generation and now that, that time has passed Kid and Law are now facing off against the peak of the younger generation(BB and Shanks). This is the moment they realize they aren't meant to be Pirate King, and that Luffy is the only one of the three of them that could reach that goal.
Cope. It is bad writing, it would be fine if One Piece was a manga where stakes were always high.l, but it isn't. Odaone shots/kills Kidd here but can't do so to countless other characters with less build up. Kidd wasn't going to win this fight no way, but for anyone paying attention all this time, give him a fight before the finisher it's stupid. One shotting makes Shanks look cool sure, but it makes every character before now look even worse. So Shanks can technically just 1 shot Blackbeard all this time and has neglected to do so for years in the story? What a joke. Why didn't Shanks one shot BB at the war? Nothing could have stopped him.

The balancing narratively is all messed up now: if the yonko are supposed to be relatively equal (because if one is weaker, the others would have eaten them whole and taken territory), how did Kidd stand up to one and help beat her but get hilariously no-sold by another? Was Shanks always leaps and bounds beyond Big Mom? If so, and he has such a focus on the "next generation", why didn't he rinse her and free the countless islands from her so that newcomers could set sail on their own journeys? He cares so much about weaker people - why not save thousands of such from his weaker Yonko rivals? But he didn't. He sat and drank and got tossed off until it was time to humiliate someone that Oda wants to showcase as being this feeble, harmless nuisance to Shanks himself. "Oh well you'd hurt my fleet? I don't think you're being fair to Kid's crew. Zoro was going to sacrifice his life to protect Luffy, and know from Luffy's words that he can't become the Pirate King without his crew. Kid's crew gave up some paper in exchange for their captain's life. His dream doesn't die until he does, so being setback for a while is a small price to pay. Not the best analysis on this imo
Fair but if we’re being real, falling and losing as much as he did (ship, poneglyphs, crew, etc) at this point in time is the worst thing for him to go through. We’re in the endgame rn. The One Piece is right there for the big hitters and to be set back this far when we’re already so close gives you the impression that, while he may survive, there’s no way he’s gonna be able to get himself back in the race in time.

But even if you say Law didn't catch a stray here.... he did. Laws goal was to take down Doflamingo, who took over that? LUFFY. Laws was low diffed by Doffy, dude was playing with him. Mind you Doffy was Laws GOAL and he didn't even roll up on the Doffy with his crew, he rolle up on him with Luffy's, and he STILL got dropped. I feel like I can't over state but Rayleigh is VITAL to Luffy's advance. The situation simply is that Luffy got the advanced course while Kid and Law really could only run on their own feet. Yeah they did damage but face it, even when it comes to their own goals, the one winning for them majority of the time is Luffy. I think if Luffy was in the same boat and didn't run into Rayleigh, people would be emphasizing the L in Luffy about as much as people say captain mid.
Yeah thats the major thing they overlook Luffy and the Strawhats got trained by the best pretty much while the other pirate crews went straight into the new world. The one thing that can probably be explained is due to Luffy being nice is the fact he learned ryo while imprisoned in Kaidos prison while Kid didn't get that. Though it is kinda weird that Law and Kid didn't achieve a haki bloom of sorts since they have been in the new world longer than Luffy and fought most likely strong opponents especially Kidd (Shanks and Big Mom's commander). It does just comes down to plot and being the main character.

It's not bad writing for Shanks to kill Kid, no. However, given that event happened, it IS bad writing to portray Kid as a rival to Luffy without giving him proper feats to make that believable. It seems like a waste to have Kid appear in Wano as much as he did, and he could have had as little screen time as X-Drake and Apoo with as much effect. Or his adventures could have been off screened to have him do something else impressive elsewhere. The big mom defeat was not a true defeat due to adding in the explosives and falling into a big hole. And even then, he had to team up with Law. So it was obvious from the start that he wouldn't stand a chance against Shanks and it would seem so weird for Oda to just make him run up to Shanks just to die. But it doesn't matter in the long run and we can just ignore it. It only matters on the re read, because now you know that every Kid scene is just a waste of time.
It’s not just about Kid dying. It’s about how it’s being handled. For him to just go out like that is terrible writing. Kid is trash and not fleshed out at all and again that is terrible writing. He’s just simply a wasted character. Oda handled his character terribly. If Oda watched this, I’m sure even he would laugh and not know what the heck Kol is talking about 😭. Yeah the problem isn't that Shanks one tapped him, The number of people saying stuff like people were thinking kidd would win are ridiculous. Even on my highest levels of cap, I still didn't think Kidd would win but he'd at least get in a shot or he'd get away. Almost everyone, even kidd fans, thought Kidd would lose. The issue is the idea Kidd is dead when they were hyping Kidd up HARD. Dude was keeping pace with Luffy when he was in prison, him and Luffy were often portrayed as having nearly the same personality, and sameoutlook on life. They gave us the idea that if anyone had the potential of Luffy it was kid. Well now ALL of that feels like it might have just been a big lie just so we can get Shank's stocks up and it makes Kidds entire existence as a character negligible. It's bad writing because it turns Kidd from an actual character into a filler character who might as well been completely non canon.

Still stand by it should have been Luffy and Kidd vs Kaido, trying to one up each other and then Kidd take Yamato spot fighting Kaido 1v1 for a time until Luffy gets back and then Kidd gets knocked out leading to Luffy finishing it. Kidd got betrayed, lost an arm OFFSCREEN to Ben Beckman, Nerfed by Hawkins in his first major fight, needed bombs to beat BM, Right hand man killer ate a smile permanently crippling him, didnt get his revenge on kaido after the fact, got one shotted by shanks after not being able to see him last time and lost his entire crew. It’s crazy to think aswell that kidd got his entire backstory in a SBS and hasn’t even gotten a proper 1v1 fight after being introduced 554 chapters ago. Meanwhile his peers law and luffy had multiple 1v1 fights on screen and bounced by from the minor L’s they took before. He had a rushed character arc in wano aswell. Oda loves puts kid in bad situations it’s getting repetitive. His not a well written character post timeskip at all and overall just disappointing.

If Odas plan was to body Kidd like this, he should have let Kaido do it. We were told constantly how Kaido would break people will to join him, but we never saw it happen, we were only told. It would have been great to see Kaido actually do that, to especially someone like Kidd with conc. Haki, to show us just how terrifying Kaido is, instead of just telling us. It would have created alot of interesting drama, like if Killer saw his once energetic Captain just be a hollow shelll of his former self, also to the readers.

Exactly. I'll admit that Kid has been a major disappointment in my eyes, but he hasn't lost to any scrubs that we know of. It's like people forget that Luffy lost his first "fight" with Caesar Clown. Then he technically lost to Doflamimgo even after Law destroyed Doffy's internal organs. He also had trouble taking down Cracker at first. And all of this was after he went through a 2 year training program set up by Rayleigh. So far, we know that Kid went straight into the New World causing problems and has only lost to Benn Beckman, Kaido (so did Luffy), and now Shanks. A loss is a loss, but those are about as respectable as losses can get from what we've seen so far. Luffy is just seen in a more positive light because he's the protagonist and gets the opportunities to redeem his losses. Plus he has a flashier moveset and is overall a more likeable character

It certainly was a hype moment to see Shanks finally in action but IF Kidd is written out of the story from this, it's just bad writing. It's not the fandom's made-up expectations that Kidd will be something big, Oda literally stated it multiple times that Kidd was the only worst generation pirate that was created to be important and he even started attacking the Yonkos before Luffy. Sunk Big Mom's ships, stole her poneglyphs, lost his arm to Beckman and captured by Kaido before Luffy even got to Whole Cake Island. Roger couldn't knock out Oden with Divine Departure and Oden was significantly weaker at that point, Roger was the first Yonko level fighter he encountered, while Kidd has experience fighting 3 Yonkos and defeated one of them. Makes no sense to be one-shot like that if Law could put up a fight with potentially the FINAL VILLAIN of the series. Shanks is crazy strong we know that but Kidd is not weak enough to be oneshot and get "annihilated" like that.
Nothing really implies Roger was going all out when attacking Oden. And the opposite is implied when he and Whitebeard's nameless attacks when clashing with each other are stronger than the Named/DF attacks they used on Oden. Law has more durability feats than Kid. He took attacks from Kaido and Big Mom directly, including an ACOC attacks from Kaido and several DF attacks from Big Mom, straight to the body. 95% of the attacks that Kid took in Wano were cushioned by his metal constructs. It's very likely he's a glass canon when it comes to his natural durability compared to his DF's durability and AP. If we go the durability = physical strength route, then Kid without his DF would be as strong as Base Luffy pre Udon training as they were shown as physically comparable in seastone. Law also had more AP feats than Kid. Mostly due to Dura neg as opposed to raw stats, but his counter shock and injection shot which don't dura neg were able to damage Big Mom and Hybrid Kaido despite their durability, and Puncture Willie's shockwave AP is enough to make a massive crater in the land of Wano under Onigashima, so feat wise, he has some up on Kid. Kaido and Big Mom even specifically acknowledge Law, the latter while Kid was still right there in the fight. So while on paper it makes sense to compare Kid to Law, in practice, it doesn't line up. There's also the fact that Shanks used Future Sight and blitzed Kid while also most likely negging his own Obs Haki. And Shanks most likely used more power than Kaido did against them and Big Mom did until she life force amped herself

Kidd was hard carried through Wano... in the race for the OP he never stood a chance. I'd be fine if he was out of the story for good... He had some development and moments throughout the series, if there's any greater purpose to that it's for 1) showing how strong Shanks is and 2) showing the kind of mistakes a strong pirate could make, and highlighting the differences in crew and temperament between them and strawhats I think KOL broke it down good, great vid

I think the whole thing with Kidd being after Kaido and deciding to go after Big Mom with Law instead was Oda’s way of showing Kid bending the knee to the goat with the coat, the future pirate king, Monkey massive d Luffy. Since Kidd would never say or admit it, Kidd trusting in Luffy to handle Kaido was a big deal. The respect that Luffy is able to garner from everyone around him, including his peers and rivals is what sets him apart and makes him a Yonko/future pirate king and Kidd leaving Kaido to Luffy despite his grudge is a perfect example. I just wish Oda was less subtle with it. Mihawk saw it back at Marineford.
That being said I just finished the video and do somewhat agree with KOL, I think comparing him to the bandit is harsh. He did kind of have bandit energy in Sabondy but I think he’s come a long way since then.

i like the parallel of law and kid both fighting emporers. Law learned the importance of haki and used it in his fight, while kid is still just relying on his devil fruit.

This chapter did nothing wrong. The “bad writing” occurred back in Wano when Kid utterly failed to live up to the expectations Oda set for him as a rival to Luffy. Like, there are now people who straight up think he would lose to Sanji. That is insane. In one arc, he went from Luffy’s rival to Sanji’s rival. That’s how low his reputation has fallen.

I understand both sides of the argument but I think Oda kinda screwed this up slightly and just wanted to write out Kidd and show that "bad" pirates will always get destroyed by the "good" ones
In my mind Oda should've gone a different route with Kidd here similar to Bellamy earlier in the series given some edits to the previous arc as well.
I didn't love how Luffy went from being one shot to beating Kaido in like a month just due to some minor haki training then a crazy awakening which should've destroyed his stamina so I think having multiple people team up to beat Kaido as well as Big Mom would've been better. However, Kidd has conquer so maybe he will power scale similarly after this defeat??

First Kidd has always been stubborn and ready to die at any cost since he's one of the few that has stood up and taken on high powered people throughout the story even though he always takes an L. So as KoL says Kidd letting Luffy take on Kaido alone felt dumb and off base. Kidd needed to stay with Luffy and at least help in the defeat of Kaido directly to avenge his first loss and Killer's condition. Personally would've liked for him to use his magnet powers on the massive sword on the island to pierce Kaido??
Anyways then Kidd still goes after Shanks the same way but instead Shanks jumps to the boat and his haki knocks everyone out but Kidd and Killer who struggle to withstand it. Then Shanks directs his attack to only de-arm Kidd and drags them to an isolated part of the island. Lucky Roo can show off his speed saving the rest of his crew before the ship gets wiped out by the giants.
Shanks then gives Kidd an ultimatum to either fight and die or turn to a life of "good nature", join him, and train until he calls upon him because a war is coming and Shanks needs Kidd's power to help the efforts. Then maybe Kidd tries to take on Shanks but is stopped and fought by Beckman who took his arm until Kidd realizes he's no match.
This prompts Kidd to understand having friends and being "good" creates more power than the life he's been living (flashbacks to Luffy and his crew plus all the others he influenced helping out) and gives in to turning over a new leaf followed by training with Beckman for the foreseeable future.
Doing this would also highlight how spending time around the Nika fruit bends people to being "good natured/friendly" and joining forces as was explained as the fruit's most terrifying power.

As much as I enjoy Oda's work, I do believe it was bad writing for Kidd to go after Big Mom when his true enemy was in front of him. It made no sense. Now, if Big Mom was going to kill Killer, or she started playing with the souls of his crew, it would have made more sense to me. It would have better characterized Kidd and his crew. As is though, I think it was poorly written, but in Oda's defense poorly written stuff is bound to happen. I can't imagine how tough it must be to drop as good of stuff as he does weekly for over decades.

I agree that Kid served his purpose. He was also the only other direct competitor to Luffy outside of Blackbeard. Law nor Shanks want to be the King of the Pirates. They are moreso interested in the void century(Law and shanks) and friends/family(shanks)....also they are allies to Luffy and probably won't ever fight each other seriously...though I would pay good money to see Zoro and Shanks get a good sparring session in down the line.
I want to believe Oda has a plan for Kid simply due to him having Conqueror’s Haki, and this devastating defeat will result in a haki bloom. He doesn’t give that ability to scrubs, and it wouldn’t make sense for Oda to off Kid without him ever showcasing it. Oda gave him the traits of a conqueror for a reason.

Nah, Kid is done. He has potential, but he's not the type to train and hone his haki. He's too one-dimensional being devil fruit dependant. He's too reckless, thoughtless, and lacks survivability when it comes to the end battles. He's lacking so much that it's very unlikely he'd catch up even if he survives, and I do believe he will survive. But he has been conquered. Conquerors can be conquered, too. Kid was being saved for this moment.

I have several points to add to the power scaling conversation:
1. Kid is a very defensive fighter, he usually surrounds himself with scrap to take damage in his stead, the only true damage I can remember he took on the roof top was the living lightning strike from Big Mom where it was a low damage (for a Yonko class fighter) AOE attack that everyone (who weren't Luffy and Law) tanked without a problem.
2. In the two vs one fight against Big Mom, he took the most damage from Killer's attacks against Hawkins (which I think is weak by design in order to mitigate damage against his own captain) and Hawkins himself hitting his head into the building (which to a fighter on the level of Kid is annoying at best), during which Law was taking the blunt of Big Mom's assault. Big Mom herself also proved to be a highly emotional fighter who only uses decisive moves against enemies that deserve them in her mind (Page One and Ulti), a struggling Law and a distracted Kid is hardly worth her strongest attacks (which is the case with almost all of the Yonko class fighters, Kaidou pull out stronger attacks only after finding a worth opponent, so did Luffy on Egghead refusing to use Gear 5th and COC coating against the Seraphim), by the time she gets serious (on screen) her attacks gets intercepted and was put in the defensive position soon after Kid and Law uses their Awakening, it is hard to say if both of them was down after because of the damage they sustained during the fight or because of the ability usage and Awakening drained them of their stamina.
3. Kid's Damned Punk could have put him into a most vulnerable state due to the long charge time and concentration required, there might also be a level of Haki infusion in to the cannon's frame that leaves his body exposed to danger, that is why he only uses them in conjunction with allies' covering his position, for his Haki control cannot protect him fast enough to intercept surprise attacks. We have seen even Yonko class character like Oden getting one-shotted when distracted, and commander minus level character like Kinemon survive COC coating attacks when focused.
4. Shanks was desperate to save his allies from total annihilation, leaving him with very little room to held back his swing, making this a decisive level attack on a far higher magnitude than a Thunder Bagua from Kaidou (more equal to his Fire Drum Dragon form if anything), it is arguable anyone can take an attack like that head on without fainting (high level fights involve a lot of dodging, as a serious Kaidou had shown).
5. It is very possible that Kid and Killer were only knocked out for a few minutes, and could theoretically get up and in fighting shape again if they were not immediately nuked by a Hakoku Soveignty immediately after, it happens to Luffy all the time when he lose consciousness in the middle of conflict.
6. COC infusion attacks may have a side effect of knocking people out if they are not sufficiently protected with their own Haki coating.

Every pirates in the One Piece world does have a goal to become a Pirate King, its not just limited to Luffy. The story of One Piece is we follow Luffy's perspective and adventure to the goal. Kid is like the representative of the other pirates who went after the same goal and failed (which is how we see a lot of them either dead or under a big pirates banner). We didn't see the adventure of other pirates but we see it through Kid's story. A pirate from somewhere trying to make a big name of themselves trying to reach One Piece but was overwhelmed/defeated by another pirate in the end. I'm sure other pirates also have their moment of win and lose before finally gave up. The way to the goal is the same, defeat big names to get the Lode Poneglyph. Only difference is the method to do it.

I've been watching KOL for 12 years and he's easily my favorite TH-camr, I agree with his takes 8/10 times, but I've NEVER seen him meat ride a character as hard as Shanks. The power scaling is OBJECTIVELY bad, the portrayal and how it was handled was poor. It's Oda's fault people think Kid is useless, when he's set up an expectation that could never be met. I used to love Shanks and I was hyped when I saw divine departure, but this fandom has just gone too far. but hype and agenda>logic as always. They were right. In all my years following this community I have never seen even the most die hard Kidd fan say that he had a chance of being pirate king KOL, most of the time what people mean as Luffy's rival is akin to what Shiki was. But putting most of the other points aside, since that would make this post way too long, I dont think Kid losing is bad writting per se, but him not pulling himself back together or even dying is and thats for one single reason, chapter 1k. Oden's prophecy states that the pirates that would come and defeat Kaido would be the ones leading the next gen, and Kid is one of them, so it makes no sense for him to be included in such group that includes the next pirate king and possibly this gen's Whitebeard, but then become a nobody just a few weeks. And the justification for that is Kid being a violent pirate? when people like Rocks, Blackbeard and Kaido are all way more savage than him but are all still legends? To me that sounds like straight up self insert mary sue activity for Shanks ngl, so for the sake of the story I hope Kid bounces back during the Elbaf arc

I think it's great story telling. Kid and Law were set up to show how powerful Luffy and his crew really are in comparison. We've known for a long time that Kid and Law have to combine their power in order in order to match Luffy, and we've seen it twice now in fact. Once with the Pacifista and now with the Yonko. The three of them were meant to show the younger generation overcoming the older generation and now that, that time has passed Kid and Law are now facing off against the peak of the younger generation(BB and Shanks). This is the moment they realize they aren't meant to be Pirate King, and that Luffy is the only one of the three of them that could reach that goal.

It is bad writing, it would be fine if One Piece was a manga where stakes were always high.l, but it isn't. Odaone shots/kills Kidd here but can't do so to countless other characters with less build up. Kidd wasn't going to win this fight no way, but for anyone paying attention all this time, give him a fight before the finisher it's stupid. One shotting makes Shanks look cool sure, but it makes every character before now look even worse.

The balancing narratively is all messed up now: if the yonko are supposed to be relatively equal (because if one is weaker, the others would have eaten them whole and taken territory), how did Kidd stand up to one and help beat her but get hilariously no-sold by another? Was Shanks always leaps and bounds beyond Big Mom? If so, and he has such a focus on the "next generation", why didn't he rinse her and free the countless islands from her so that newcomers could set sail on their own journeys? He cares so much about weaker people - why not save thousands of such from his weaker Yonko rivals?

I don't think you're being fair to Kid's crew. Zoro was going to sacrifice his life to protect Luffy, and know from Luffy's words that he can't become the Pirate King without his crew.
Kid's crew gave up some paper in exchange for their captain's life. His dream doesn't die until he does, so being setback for a while is a small price to pay. Not the best analysis on this imo
Fair but if we’re being real, falling and losing as much as he did (ship, poneglyphs, crew, etc) at this point in time is the worst thing for him to go through. We’re in the endgame rn. The One Piece is right there for the big hitters and to be set back this far when we’re already so close gives you the impression that, while he may survive, there’s no way he’s gonna be able to get himself back in the race in time.

But even if you say Law didn't catch a stray here.... he did. Laws goal was to take down Doflamingo, who took over that? LUFFY. Laws was low diffed by Doffy, dude was playing with him. Mind you Doffy was Laws GOAL and he didn't even roll up on the Doffy with his crew, he rolle up on him with Luffy's, and he STILL got dropped. I feel like I can't over state but Rayleigh is VITAL to Luffy's advance. The situation simply is that Luffy got the advanced course while Kid and Law really could only run on their own feet. Yeah they did damage but face it, even when it comes to their own goals, the one winning for them majority of the time is Luffy. I think if Luffy was in the same boat and didn't run into Rayleigh, people would be emphasizing the L in Luffy about as much as people say captain mid.
Yeah thats the major thing they overlook Luffy and the Strawhats got trained by the best pretty much while the other pirate crews went straight into the new world. The one thing that can probably be explained is due to Luffy being nice is the fact he learned ryo while imprisoned in Kaidos prison while Kid didn't get that. Though it is kinda weird that Law and Kid didn't achieve a haki bloom of sorts since they have been in the new world longer than Luffy and fought most likely strong opponents especially Kidd (Shanks and Big Mom's commander). It does just comes down to plot and being the main character.

It's not bad writing for Shanks to kill Kid, no. However, given that event happened, it IS bad writing to portray Kid as a rival to Luffy without giving him proper feats to make that believable. It seems like a waste to have Kid appear in Wano as much as he did, and he could have had as little screen time as X-Drake and Apoo with as much effect. Or his adventures could have been off screened to have him do something else impressive elsewhere.
The big mom defeat was not a true defeat due to adding in the explosives and falling into a big hole. And even then, he had to team up with Law. So it was obvious from the start that he wouldn't stand a chance against Shanks and it would seem so weird for Oda to just make him run up to Shanks just to die.
But it doesn't matter in the long run and we can just ignore it. It only matters on the re read, because now you know that every Kid scene is just a waste of time.

Yeah the problem isn't that Shanks one tapped him, The number of people saying stuff like people were thinking kidd would win are ridiculous. Even on my highest levels of cap, I still didn't think Kidd would win but he'd at least get in a shot or he'd get away. Almost everyone, even kidd fans, thought Kidd would lose.

HARD. Dude was keeping pace with Luffy when he was in prison, him and Luffy were often portrayed as having nearly the same personality, and sameoutlook on life. They gave us the idea that if anyone had the potential of Luffy it was kid. Well now ALL of that feels like it might have just been a big lie just so we can get Shank's stocks up and it makes Kidds entire existence as a character negligible. It's bad writing because it turns Kidd from an actual character into a filler character who might as well been completely non canon.

bad writing is making a character go on a journey along with our main and make them seem like an important part of that journey only to remove them without reason because the writer didn't have a proper plan. that's what oda did with kidd

Kidd got betrayed, lost an arm OFFSCREEN to Ben Beckman, Nerfed by Hawkins in his first major fight, needed bombs to beat BM, Right hand man killer ate a smile permanently crippling him, didnt get his revenge on kaido after the fact, got one shotted by shanks after not being able to see him last time and lost his entire crew. It’s crazy to think aswell that kidd got his entire backstory in a SBS and hasn’t even gotten a proper 1v1 fight after being introduced 554 chapters ago. Meanwhile his peers law and luffy had multiple 1v1 fights on screen and bounced by from the minor L’s they took before. He had a rushed character arc in wano aswell. Oda loves puts kid in bad situations it’s getting repetitive. His not a well written character post timeskip at all and overall just disappointing.

If Odas plan was to body Kidd like this, he should have let Kaido do it. We were told constantly how Kaido would break people will to join him, but we never saw it happen, we were only told.
It would have been great to see Kaido actually do that, to especially someone like Kidd with conc. Haki, to show us just how terrifying Kaido is, instead of just telling us. Exactly. I'll admit that Kid has been a major disappointment in my eyes, but he hasn't lost to any scrubs that we know of. It's like people forget that Luffy lost his first "fight" with Caesar Clown. Then he technically lost to Doflamimgo even after Law destroyed Doffy's internal organs. He also had trouble taking down Cracker at first. And all of this was after he went through a 2 year training program set up by Rayleigh. So far, we know that Kid went straight into the New World causing problems and has only lost to Benn Beckman, Kaido (so did Luffy), and now Shanks. A loss is a loss, but those are about as respectable as losses can get from what we've seen so far. Luffy is just seen in a more positive light because he's the protagonist and gets the opportunities to redeem his losses. Plus he has a flashier moveset and is overall a more likeable character

It certainly was a hype moment to see Shanks finally in action but IF Kidd is written out of the story from this, it's just bad writing. It's not the fandom's made-up expectations that Kidd will be something big, Oda literally stated it multiple times that Kidd was the only worst generation pirate that was created to be important and he even started attacking the Yonkos before Luffy. Sunk Big Mom's ships, stole her poneglyphs, lost his arm to Beckman and captured by Kaido before Luffy even got to Whole Cake Island.
Roger couldn't knock out Oden with Divine Departure and Oden was significantly weaker at that point, Roger was the first Yonko level fighter he encountered, while Kidd has experience fighting 3 Yonkos and defeated one of them. Makes no sense to be one-shot like that if Law could put up a fight with potentially the FINAL VILLAIN of the series. Shanks is crazy strong we know that but Kidd is not weak enough to be oneshot and get "annihilated" like that.

Nothing really implies Roger was going all out when attacking Oden. And the opposite is implied when he and Whitebeard's nameless attacks when clashing with each other are stronger than the Named/DF attacks they used on Oden.
Law has more durability feats than Kid. He took attacks from Kaido and Big Mom directly, including an ACOC attacks from Kaido and several DF attacks from Big Mom, straight to the body. 95% of the attacks that Kid took in Wano were cushioned by his metal constructs. It's very likely he's a glass canon when it comes to his natural durability compared to his DF's durability and AP. If we go the durability = physical strength route, then Kid without his DF would be as strong as Base Luffy pre Udon training as they were shown as physically comparable in seastone.
Law also had more AP feats than Kid. Mostly due to Dura neg as opposed to raw stats, but his counter shock and injection shot which don't dura neg were able to damage Big Mom and Hybrid Kaido despite their durability, and Puncture Willie's shockwave AP is enough to make a massive crater in the land of Wano under Onigashima, so feat wise, he has some up on Kid. Kaido and Big Mom even specifically acknowledge Law, the latter while Kid was still right there in the fight.
So while on paper it makes sense to compare Kid to Law, in practice, it doesn't line up. There's also the fact that Shanks used Future Sight and blitzed Kid while also most likely negging his own Obs Haki. And Shanks most likely used more power than Kaido did against them and Big Mom did until she life force amped herself

Kidd was hard carried through Wano... in the race for the OP he never stood a chance. I'd be fine if he was out of the story for good... He had some development and moments throughout the series, if there's any greater purpose to that it's for 1) showing how strong Shanks is and 2) showing the kind of mistakes a strong pirate could make, and highlighting the differences in crew and temperament between them and strawhats
