- Senator Fatima Payman quitting Labor gives Prime Minister Anthony Albanese “one hell of a headache” if her defection leads to a new fringe party, according to Sky News host Steve Price.
Ms Payman has not ruled out working with a group planning to run against Labor MPs in seats with large Muslim populations, saying she does not have any intentions of collaborating with them “at this point”.
“If she does endorse that movement or join it as a Labor Senator turned martyr it could change forever Australia's political landscape,” Mr Price said.

Senator Payman is a dual Australian citizen. According to a High Court decision, if an elected politician with dual citizenship has made reasonable attempts to rescind the foreign citizenship, they may stand. Senator Payman's family fled Afghanistan because the Taliban made them in fear of their lives, and subsequently, when she requested that he Afghan citizenship be rescinded, the Taliban was not in a position to do it. I suggest that your comment is totally irrelevant and supremely ignorant.

Without getting into the Muslim party debate (which I personally am against). The issue I have is that senators elected under a party banner should not be allowed to just go rouge and leave the party and remained independent. The way a senate vote operates is mainly on the party and the people of WA mostly voting Labor voted to have Labor representation, not an individual representation. Sane with Thorpe, if they leave the party that won the seats then the party should be able to put in another person.

If you think of her background you would think she and other recent comers fleeing from Middle eastern backgrounds would be happy to live safely, securely, peacefully in a very wealthy country with lots of benefits.
