In 1990 one slogan came in PTC pallavane pallavane nee nallavan aagividu. At that time TATA and FORD were scrapped. A few TATA buses were retrofitted with leyland engine.
Been watching your videos for the past few days. Your indepth analysis is amazing. Please share how you developed a passion for buses. In this age when even middle class people are shifting to cars, it is heartening to see you making videos on buses. Have you made any videos on electric buses? Recently I chanced upon a video on e-bus from AL in collaboration with ABB. The super fast charging was amazing. Looks like AL is going to emerge as a pioneer in bus industry. My gut feeling is AL is going to take the industry by storm. At a personal level, I am fond of bus travel compared to travelling in confined car journeys. That's how I came to your channel. By the way, the TN buses of the 80s and 90s were comfortable to travel. The buses of this century seem cramped, with smaller seats (or may be, I have grown horizontally) and less legroom. Could you please do a video on the new blue moffusil buses? Looks like these buses are slower than their predecessors. Best wishes for success with your channel. God bless!!
even the video is in your native language I do appreciate it very well and i have read all the english comments! My question is what do you think of HA6DTI2U engine? you can find it in ashok leyland 2518 and in ashok leyland 4018h tractor. Is this engine realiable? I am talking about the 5789 cc old engine with bosch rotative injection pump not the 5660 cc? Thank you so much
In 1995 PTC got 20 TATA buses G602 to G621 alloted to Mandaveli. For the first time TATA had the gear lever above the bonet box. Old ones the lever was outside the bonet box which looked like letter z.

Thanks for sharing your experience Mr Dharmasivam. What you pointed about technical domain expertise is true. But I would like to advise that within Tata group, Tata Motors is a huge company and is bigger than Ashok Leyland(compared as automobile companies). They are the largest commercial vehicle manufacturers in India.
Tata buses are very successful throughout India for last 50 years. Their entry level buses(1613, 1510, 1312 etc)- 130hp models are a great hit. But higher end models- starting from 155hp/160hp have NOT done well. In this segment, Leyland rules the market Presently, more operators are going for high HP engines. Thats why Leyland is preferred over Tata motors even in North India now.
In PTC the longest serving passenger service bus was D80, TMN8264. It ran from 1977 to 1998. Till 1995 it ran in KK nagar and after that it ran in Alandur. This is only for bus. But many non passenger vehicles are serving more than 50 years.
Even till now, there are many MTC buses with 15 years service. Yellow line/blue line buses launched in 2005 are still running in good condition. Yes....buses Converted into service vans are running over 30 years in many depots
@@JohnVictorIASteacher Blue line buses which came in 2006 are almost scrapped. One or two 2005 buses are running as they ran as Driving school buses for a while.

Ashok Leyland and TATA are same kind. Can anyone clarify why in other Southern States like Karnataka, AP, Telengana and Kerala have mixed fleet, and why TATA is almost as successful as Ashok Leyland in those states? Primarily it is Driving that makes the whole difference. Except for a handpicked few in TNSTC, most of the drivers are copy cats. You can , very calculativly, shift gears upwards on Ashok Leyland, but difficult in TATA. As U observe during my ocassional bus commutes, I have noticed many, including blue uniformed drivers, do not know the very basics. They do not know appropriate gear shift intervals - engine RPM and Vehicle speed, due to which, first of all the vehicle drive line, clutch components, will wear out, and side hy side pass vibration to the body. Now, even with Hydraulic clutches, for effortlessly gear shift, drivers shift gears with half clutch, damaging clutch and gearbox. Any hus driver must be made to know the value of his vehicle, and understand the vehicle, by undergoing a proper driver training. Why are TATA products good in West, North, and East India. No manufacturing company manufactures bad products.
I never underestimated TATA buses. They ruled all Indian states since 1950s. I only told that they never suited MTC in Tamilnadu. Tata 1510/1312/1613 buses are huge success in India. Above 160hp(1616, 1618 lpo) TATA buses are NOT great success. Leyland rules in this segment.
Can you recollect that Nesamony Transport Corporation, Nagerkoil, had a major Tata fleet. Even Cheran Transport Corporation, Coimbatore operated Tata buses in The Nilgiris hills. MTC drivers only are the epidemic. Agreed that Ashok Leyland will tolerate mishandling, Tata needs to be looked after carefully. I am a retired owner driver of NP Leyland and TATA trucks. Indeed, marginal savings were there on the Leyland working expenses, over Tata. Ashok Leyland could put up with ocassional abuse too. I am a first class diploma holder in Automobile Engineering passed out in 1979. I have used my technical prowess till now to my benefit. You know, even now, in deep forests, Tata semi forward 1613 SE is still preferred. Each, better than the other, in their own ways.
@@KANDETHPNAIRMuralidharan sir compared to Leyland,Tata requires lot of maintenance work....so for the sack of owners most of them are prefer Leyland over tata....
Tata buses use Cummings engines which is American based. Ashok Leyland buses use Hino engines which is Japan based. Historically Japanese engines are more reliable than American engines be it low capacity engines or heavy vehicle engines. Same continues with these Indian brands using their engines.
In hilly area like our place Northeast it is not true what you've said.it happens a few years back in North Eastern Hills University.(NEHU)Shillong they purchase one ashok leyland bus but atlas they have to scrap the bus, because they cannot afford it anymore, maintenance is very high
Thanks for your comment. Ashok Leyland maintenance is low only; i dont know what exactly happened at your place. Probably they didnt have service centers or the owners were reluctant to maintain the bus. Generally, AL is a good success in hilly parts of states like Kerala, MAHA, TN and even Himalayas(HR, Punbus)
Basically you are a leyland fan...most of your videos is against Tata...in Kerala most of the long distance buses are Tata...if you go Himachal mind will get changed
The same reason why they neglect TATA. Further, Bharatbenz dont have entry segment mass transport chassis like AL viking. Their luxury segment 225hp 12 M is slowly becoming a hit in India now, lets see if SETC buys bharatbenz for luxury chassis in future
Another reason for Tata's failure is their lack of variety. 1515 and 1616 may be breakthroughs for sure, but unlike Leyland we can use them only for city , school and mofussil operations whereas Leyland's Viking can be used as a school bus, city bus, sleeper bus( in very few instances), mofussil bus and so on. Even the new AC bus of Chennai and TNSTC's 3*2 buses were built on Viking chassis whereas 1515 and 1616 have not much variety like Leyland.
Yes, AL Viking(160 hp) was really an allrounder indeed- Citi bus, intercity, staff, tourist- it was suitable for all operations But please keep in mind, the old TATA platform(135 hp)-1613/1510/1312 was an all rounder like AL Viking. Now, it has become largely marginalised due to higher power requirement and BS6 norms
@@JohnVictorIASteacher Of course sir. Tata surely had all rounders no denying these facts. I think the LPO 1618 chassis of Tata is an all rounder as well.
i saw the video on youtube too. Im not sure about the credibility. Leyland has not issued any official statement about it. We have to wait and see. The front face of that bus is aerodynamic but the rear overhang is very long. If they dont modify it, it will be a failure only.
Hello sir latest update from Tata bs6 bus chassis. Leyland is still using the Viking brand, while Tata has fully dropped both 1616 and 1515 and merged both the models into a single brand LPO 1618 BS6 with 180 HP while AL Viking BS6 has 200 HP. Maybe Tata may come as a competitor to Leyland Viking as their engines are way quieter than before.
Thanks for your comment. But Tata 1618 platform has been there for a long time. It is used for private inter-city coaches as well as metropolitan govt buses eg, 2010 batch of Tata Marcopolo buses in MTC
TATA have spoiled their engines now a days I agree. But during 80's and 90's & early 2000's TATA was good & refined only. Even in 80's 90's TN state didn't had a single TATA bus. People don't like a hindi north Indian TATA company simple.
The 1995 batch was scrapped in 2007.In 1997 G800 and G900 series came and it also ran till 2007.In 1998-99 A300 to A500 series and H400 series had a few TATA, these ran till 2008. In 2003 H700 and H800 series got TATA they were scrapped in 2010.
I think in plain area ashok leyland is best, but in hilly region like our place in Northeast Tata is best it climb faster and overtake ashok leyland very easily
I feel it is the choice of the state government,. Both TATA & Leyland are good,. but if you observe in ghat roads or hills area most prefer TATA, but for level roads Leyland is the king.( for eg. Tirumala hills 90 % are TATA !) I remember Cheran transport those days had many TATA buses,. In Kerala TATA has good share. In the end both are good. It's once choice !
Endha busum maintain pannadhan nalla irukkum. Namba tamil Nadu government kitta endha strong vandi irundhalum. Namma tn government veenakkiduvanga. But tara vandinga ellam sema powerfull. it's a good hill rider.
Yes, PRTC speed limit is high- 95kmph. thats why they overtake tnstc. But nowadays even TNSTC buses speed limit have been increased to around 90 kmph in puducherry route
Why most of your video content are in favor of only Leyland company. It seems like you are getting paid. Do some more content on commercial vehicles, JV's like Eicher-volvo. Why MAN trucks quit india business. There are lot things apart from Leyland.
The words of a man shows his character..... Im a patriot. I dont need certificates from people like you. People like you will even suspect our own country's Jawans. Watch all my videos properly. People like you should be ashamed of putting comments like this.... Even if I praise Leyland, I have the right to do as a fan. what bothers you. Learn manners and respect in life..
Dont compare tata buses wit Leyland, leyland is far far better compare to tata specially in buses, its like gun leyland is king, tata is just for local cities..

Kindly check again next time. Half the buses have rear air suspension, rest don't have. The first batch of buses(simple front grille design) all have air suspension. From second batch onward, the govt has deliberately made non-air suspension buses for 50% volume to cut cost.
Im not denying...but 50% buses in MTC have become derelict due to lack of maintenance. They are lying in sheds unused. Further 1618 (chassis) used in marcopolo is not a very successful model compared to Tata 1510 or 1613. Its best suited for intercity buses. The exhaust smoke is also high. Thats why MTC has gone for LPO 1515 chassis for the new Red buses.
First of all , understand that TATA has been a flop only as far as MTC (chennai) is concerned. I never told Tata is a failure in Tamilnadu. Its a success in short routes of TNSTC. There are many factors for this- 1. TATA didnt suit MTC's requirements- since Tata 1613/1510 engine has low power compared to Leyland, they cannot be speed locked. If MTC runs them without speed limit, wear and tear will be high. Life span will be less. 2. MTC didnt show interest to do maintenance for Tata buses for long term. Spare availability was better for leyland only. Some Tata spares are costly. Even dashboard of bus is very costly. If its gets damaged, you have to spend in thousands. 3. Chassis comfort. Tata cant match Leyland viking chassis.
TATA buses won't come in TN as TATA is a North Indian company. TN people hate hindi & North India, so they don't want to make benefit to north Indian hindi origin company. Ashok Leyland is a Tamil Nadu based company.
It does not have anything to do with culture or emotion. Tata has good presence in Tipper and Trailer truck segment in TN. It also has decent presence in entry level bus segment, mainly STUs( Govt buses)
@@JohnVictorIASteacher May be I was wrong, but this is what people discuss. Majority TN registered vehicles are Leyland only, this creates doubt. Majority tamil people don't cooperate with tourists if we speak in hindi or English they answer in tamil only. People in TN & Kerala should try to mingle with other state people & globally. And should buy other company buses like Eicher & TATA too.

Yes, AL Viking(160 hp) was really an allrounder indeed- Citi bus, intercity, staff, tourist- it was suitable for all operations
But please keep in mind, the old TATA platform(135 hp)-1613/1510/1312 was an all rounder like AL Viking. Now, it has become largely marginalised due to higher power requirement and BS6 norms
@@JohnVictorIASteacher Of course sir. Tata surely had all rounders no denying these facts. I think the LPO 1618 chassis of Tata is an all rounder as well.
Social media la ashok leyland multi axel photo and video varudu say about that please
i saw the video on youtube too.
Yes sir very true. Actually what I meant to say was that all the brands( 1515,1616) now come under a single brand that is 1618

Thank you

Have u seen best transport bus body built?? It is very simple and A class solid chk n if require pls go for shoot
Ashok leyland is king of the road
TATA have spoiled their engines now a days I agree. But during 80's and 90's & early 2000's TATA was good & refined only. Even in 80's 90's TN state didn't had a single TATA bus. People don't like a hindi north Indian TATA company simple.
Tata is not good for buses
And also tata vehicles are not good for lond drives
The 1995 batch was scrapped in 2007.In 1997 G800 and G900 series came and it also ran till 2007.In 1998-99 A300 to A500 series and H400 series had a few TATA, these ran till 2008. In 2003 H700 and H800 series got TATA they were scrapped in 2010.
Nice explanation
Try to add some pictures if buses while explanation..,it will be better
Thank you. Will try to do pictorial narration in future
Sir pls with buses vedio
I think in plain area ashok leyland is best, but in hilly region like our place in Northeast Tata is best it climb faster and overtake ashok leyland very easily
I feel it is the choice of the state government,. Both TATA & Leyland are good,. but if you observe in ghat roads or hills area most prefer TATA, but for level roads Leyland is the king.( for eg. Tirumala hills 90 % are TATA !) I remember Cheran transport those days had many TATA buses,. In Kerala TATA has good share. In the end both are good. It's once choice !
What about elcher bus
Super bro

He his right, speaking truth, Tata need's lot of maintenance
Pondicherry PRTC blue color buses always overtaking Tamilnadu buses . PRTC pathi konjam sollunga...
Yes, PRTC speed limit is high- 95kmph. thats why they overtake tnstc. But nowadays even TNSTC buses speed limit have been increased to around 90 kmph in puducherry route
Tata buses Hills Area ku thaan best
Pls use a better camera, professional mic and tripod

Excellent news Anna ji

Why most of your video content are in favor of only Leyland company. It seems like you are getting paid. Do some more content on commercial vehicles, JV's like Eicher-volvo. Why MAN trucks quit india business. There are lot things apart from Leyland.
The words of a man shows his character..... Im a patriot. I dont need certificates from people like you. People like you will even suspect our own country's Jawans.
Watch all my videos properly. People like you should be ashamed of putting comments like this....
Even if I praise Leyland, I have the right to do as a fan. what bothers you. Learn manners and respect in life..
@John Victor IAS teacher haha the IAS teacher can't even take online comments positively. Fate on your students.

Dont compare tata buses wit Leyland, leyland is far far better compare to tata specially in buses, its like gun leyland is king, tata is just for local cities..

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, Ashok Leyland is an allrounder in this regard.
No air suspension in red bus, only wheveller suspension front & back
Kindly check again next time. Half the buses have rear air suspension, rest don't have. The first batch of buses(simple front grille design) all have air suspension.
From second batch onward, the govt has deliberately made non-air suspension buses for 50% volume to cut cost.
Only in ASHOK LEYLAND .Not in tata
@@NanNan-tk1sn Even in TATA, a portion of buses have Air suspension
How can India's leading commercial automotive company produce a bus / chasis with lesser quality/ performance than their second competitor ?
Bro Marco polo bus build quality super, suspension super, ippavum nan roadla pakren.
The first batch of BMTC Marcopolo buses were also a major failure!
Tata 1515c has 600Nm torque and 158hp
To running on ksrtc
Bmtc eppadi Tata motors sirappa irukku
First of all , understand that TATA has been a flop only as far as MTC (chennai) is concerned. I never told Tata is a failure in Tamilnadu. Its a success in short routes of TNSTC.
There are many factors for this-
Ashok leyland is the king.
If you don't believe me go to their website and seek information whether its true or false,
Wrong decision by MTC. Don't risk tax payers money.
The RED bus METC making red bus 🚃 need 2000

Unfortunately.....Yes..in all likelihood.
Ss I saw in coimbatore
Way not testing on Eicher bus
TATA buses won't come in TN as TATA is a North Indian company. TN people hate hindi & North India, so they don't want to make benefit to north Indian hindi origin company. Ashok Leyland is a Tamil Nadu based company.
It does not have anything to do with culture or emotion. Tata has good presence in Tipper and Trailer truck segment in TN. It also has decent presence in entry level bus segment, mainly STUs(
Govt buses)
@@JohnVictorIASteacher May be I was wrong, but this is what people discuss. Majority TN registered vehicles are Leyland only, this creates doubt. Majority tamil people don't cooperate with tourists if we speak in hindi or English they answer in tamil only. People in TN & Kerala should try to mingle with other state people & globally. And should buy other company buses like Eicher & TATA too.
