I only watch youtube... I've given up on free-to-air TV. I watch 4 to 6 hours per day. Pretty much every content creator I sub to... I watch their videos within hours of them putting it up. I have several friends that do the same. So... there's not "nobody"!
Here's a slacker (3 PM in the office)!
I'm no slacker, I'm retired! LOL Not meaning to annoy anyone, but I made lots of money owning my own manufacturing and import business and got to the stage where I was fed up with the stress and boredom, so I retired when I was 32 years old. I have so many hobbies and projects on the go that at times I have worn my fingers to the bone (literally) working 7 days a week on my projects. By the way, your fingers recover their shape, but the first time it happened I freaked out. I would have huge indents in my thumb and forefinger with only skin separating from the bone. I love working that hard and being exhausted when I go to bed when I get an endorphin and satisfaction rush as I lay in bed before I fall asleep. Living with a dog is a massive icing on the cake. They are great to walk with and great to cuddle and play with for a break during the day. I'm 59 now and starting to feel it, and I would recommend to anybody, if you can, stop working when you are young, because it's highly likely you will be too worn out to enjoy your retirement when you get old.
I think you may be underestimating how many of us pay for TH-cam. Unless others have a much higher tolerance for the incessant ads than I do. I also pay for Netflix but spend far more time on TH-cam. I seldom have the time or patience to sit down and watch something an hour or more in length.

Yes, agreed. I am canceling HBO and Netflix but keeping TH-cam.
I have multiple screens here and at work while fixing stuff , I could be watching this at any time of the day. But usually youtube only suggests you after work regardless of your upload time. So always around 7pm gmt.
I see the same bathtube curve, except that my Monday just peaks out Sunday, probably due to being half a day ahead of the US. Thursday is pointless apparently.
I Blame Wednesday it Hump Day, and they fall asleep till Friday..
Bottom line, you can’t control viewer habits. If they’re not conforming to what “the algorithm” wants, there is nothing you can do. People watch TH-cam when they want to/can. The content to be watched won’t change that.
Take this as questions not criticism - Why does it matter if you release it on a Wednesday and I watch it on the weekend? That is, as long as you get the views, (why) does it matter when that happens?
It is only an analytical issue. The algorithm ruleth supreme and must be appeased.
I'm an outlier -- TH-cam is pretty much the only video service I'm paying for these days. (I share a Paramount+) I watch a TON of TH-cam these days and only a very select few TV shows, and rarely see movies.
One thing to consider Fran is the time zone -- the chart is in yours, the viewers could be anywhere!
It would interesting to see the viewers Local time -- this shows peaks at either east US coast at 3:00 PM and/or west coast at 6:00 PM

I'm watching at 13:50 GMT in the UK right now, a 5 hour difference (8:50 in Philadelphia). How much overseas traffic do you get, Fran? Is there a region by region breakdown for this or is it too minor?
I watch from the UK so don't know if it corrects for the different timezone. I do tend to catch up at weekends and can watch videos days or weeks after they are published.

Fran I watch youtube videos every day from 8AM to 7PM GMT , even I going to wach your old videos. If youtube not show this day your video no problem I go to your youtube and watch. Than youtube show me your video on top page. Funny algorithm.
Proud slacker and youtuber here. It does not matter much to me when you post. It is not like TV, I don't have to watch you when you are on. Sometimes, I don't have time or attention span for a long video.

I'm the slacker. Not only I have no fixed job (hello weekdays), but I also live on the other side of the world and I cannot sleep normally. The latter is certainly nothing to be proud of, it happens, but it almost guarantees that I see the videos as soon as they are posted.
Apparently these graphs are based on the the creator's local time. Wouldn't it make sense to correct for the viewer's time zones?

Are those graphs based on Eastern US time? Maybe most of your viewers are in UK/Europe and they ARE viewing in the evening? That is when I view your and any other you tube video becasue I work during the day.

One month of data does not make a trend. Not at all. It may turn out to be. But, you should have enough data from over the years to know what your seasonality is like, whether there are other factors (weather?), etc. are playing into this.

Sounds like a good schedule for 3 videos would be friday-sunday-tuesday, good even spread, and none on the completely dead days of wednesday and thursday. Unfortunately, that makes a 4 day video schedule lopsided since you'd want friday-saturday-sunday-tuesday to catch the best days.

It’s currently 4am here on a Thursday night. Well technically Friday morning but I don’t call it Friday because I haven’t gone to bed yet. I work the night shift and tend to watch TH-cam from 3am to around 6am before I go to bed every night. Morning for most other people.

I hate the algorithm, I do not want to be dictated to as to when or whom I watch. I tend to binge watch various channels on my TV not phone or PC when I have time. I hardly ever watch stuff when I’ve been notified or what appears on the algorithm. You Tube is watched by myself for my fun. Now if I got paid to watch the algorithm or recommendations then I would. I do enjoy watching your content when I can

Yes; it’s just a simple pulling back of the curtain. A lot of people would turn this into stuff like “viewsmax your content!!” which is such a tired approach, imo.

How big does your channel need to be to get to the point where one video a week released on the weekend will work? Asking because I know of several bigger channels who only release Sundays. Is there a point when you have enough viewers where the algorithm doesn’t matter?

Having recently freed myself from a work career that was taking everything I had to keep up, I'm catching up around the house and watching Fran now that I've retired. The Bathtub Curve is used to predict failures, is it not? The shape you are seeing here is an artifact of how many folks who watch your channel can't do it from work, and that's not a failure. When I was still working, I tagged videos I saw at work to "watch later". I wonder how many others still do the same.
Diversify your content, and the number of platforms you use. NEVER put all your eggs in one basket.

The way that TH-cam has modified the ads, how long and where they occur has also had an impact on watching. And no, I don't use an adblocker.
I have reduced my TH-cam view by 50% due to adds.
Did they recently decrease the amount of ads? I was not logged in on one computer and got 2 ads maybe every 10th video.

Hey, we're not "nobody!" I usually catch your videos a few minutes after they drop.
Of course, I'm retired, so my whole life now is slack. It's sweet.
My weekends tend to get busy and I may be late to pick up on the latest TH-cam videos then, but I do get caught up, usually later in the evening.
Whenever we catch you, we do make sure to catch you. Don't sweat the analytics. TH-cam is just trying to play with your head. That's why I usually search on my subscriptions. TH-cam doesn't tell me what I want to watch, I tell TH-cam what I want to watch.
That's why I run Slackware Linux. It doesn't tell me what to do, I tell it, and it doesn't do ANYTHING I haven't specifically told it to.

Bob Dobbs... Been a while since I heard that name. Well, seen. Was that a tacit reference as to the direction YT is going? Lots of people (both watchers and creators) are finding other things to do these days, and YT has become long in the tooth enough that fewer people step in to fill the gaps.
I'm retired & watch your videos when I can. Even in retirement, I have lots of things going on & cannot sit at the computer. You are appreciated Fran more than you know.
2:14 - NO, 3 to 4 per weeks is the counter which means play your gigs on friday saturday and sunday and release something less relevant in the middle of the week
But this is what we have observed here in germany, not the US, and I wonder what youtube is doing with your international audience cause your view pattern shows a quite significant focus on just a few hours, but europe is about 5 - 7 hours earlier watching.
Here the car channels play all week their videos, mostly the tuesday - thursday - friday - sunday gigs.
A few have an offset of 1 day to the others to throw the net into the sea while the others are not fishing.
But it will be great to see if you adopt the schedule to youtube viewership stats how much the success will increase or new trends will kill the current view pattern. But here thursday is a big win - at least for car and tinker channels

Everyday of the week in the evening, sometimes Saturday and Sunday daytime depends on the weather or my health. If I turn on and your new video is up I watch it, I think I see it though because I am subscribed. Glad to watch anything you can do.
