Commercial cock rock bands nearly always paint themselves into a corner stylistically as time goes on and refuse to adjust their craft once all of their strengths have been played to their limits. There are very rare cases of such bands evolving and playing not just for the fans but also for themselves. Crüe are not one of those very rare cases.

They already re-recorded Too Fast For Love when they signed with Elektra, which sucks because the original version is way better but it costs like $1000 bucks.
When people complain about Motley Crue, I always tell them to check out the 94' album. Hidden gem, and John Corabi is a million times better frontman and singer then Vince ever was.
That album is amazing at the time I was so used to the standard Mötley Crüe sound so I didn't really appreciate it as much as I now. Funny note I met John he was doing a show in Newton NC my wife and I happen to be visiting family he was so nice so gracious. He even remembered playing a small venue years ago that I met him out in the early 90s. He's very proud of that album and what people say to him about it even though it's initial release was a commercial disappointment he's very proud of the work that they did on it.
@@thedrunkfox i dont wanna say jon is a better singer, cuz vince carries the legacy of mötley, but 94' was one of their best albums thanks to corabi's vocals and the fact that he played guitar along with mick mars
Shout At The Devil, Girls, Girls, Girls and Dr Feelgood are great albums to be fair but the rest of their stuff is bloody awful. I feel like Glam Metal bands from that time had a pretty short shelf life, Motley Crue included!
Not defending the band bc I was never a fan. But if you think about it from the perspective of they been doing this for decades. They are now old and don’t want to admit that. And don’t like the fact they went from millions of fans on top of the world to being grandparents now. This is something you will come to learn once you get older. I turned 40 this year and now I’m realizing my prime is over and I’ll only live my younger years again only as memories.
In the early 2000s, Vince was on a reality show featuring washed up celebrities. It was called ‘The Real Life’ and one of the challenges the cast had (they weren’t so much competing since the proceeds were for a charity) was to put on a skit or perform a song. ALL of the cast went out on foot and sold tickets for the show. Vince just pinned the tickets he was assigned to sell on a utility pole, wrote ‘Vince Neil Concert-Free’ and said he’d just “donate” $100 for them. He’s SO lazy! That’s obviously not the worst thing he’s ever done as he he ended the life of Hanoi Rock’s drummer in a car accident! Edited: To add a detail.
I saw that POS on skating with the stars one time and laughed till I nearly pissed my pants . What a pathetic turd. Whats the matter Vince you run out of drug money again . LOL
Yeah. Unpopular opinion: My favorite era of Motley Crue is in the early 90s when John Corabi replaced Vince Neil as the frontman in the band. Much better vocal work!
Same I like that they were trying to evolve their sound John Corabi is a way better vocalist than Vince Neil honestly I hate it when Vince Neil was brought back in the late '90s to be the vocalist of the band again i because he ended up making the band revert back to the same things that they were doing back in the '80s And that was the very problem with Vince Neil he wouldn't get with the times or even try to evolve which he ended up becoming a product of his own time You don't change you get left behind That's exactly what happened to Vince.
Yes, it's almost a necessity for bands with one guitarist, as the bass just isn't enough during solos. Rush had Geddy triggering his own from time to time, usually keyboard chords when he's playing the bass, keyboards he himself played in the studio.
Honestly I don’t get it. They’ve already lived the lives of ten men and have all the riches in the world. Don’t they just wanna go fishing now and hang out with their grandkids? WTF?
egh its more about it being a bit cringe or out of touch. They're a bit old to have the scantily clad women on stage and Tommy Lee complaining about not being flashed. Sure in the 80's there was shock value to it but now its just stale and kinda embarrassing. Like they're trying to reconnect with their youth.
Which is Why people rag on the modern versions of the bands, Which yes they suck but people really need to stop expecting 60 + year olds to be the same as they were in their 20's and 30's, The Mick Jaggers of the world are rare.
@@immortalgram Take away the album sales and Motley post Shout were still HUGE, you and others may hate them now and I don't even blame you but the revisionist history is getting a bit much.
It’s easy to trash a bunch of guys not wanting to fade away. Then again cash train doesn’t come along very often so if there are people willing to pay to get back the memories of their youth so be it. Let’s be honest people are not seeing them for who they are today it’s the nostalgia of what once was. Almost like a fountain of youth even if it only lasts a couple hours.
Totally correct. In their minds, people who go to see them think they are seeing and hearing the Motley of 1989. The reality is, they look like 4 way past their sell by date drag queens, and they sound like shit on a stick.
I saw an interview with the guy who produced their first two albums and he said he recorded Vince’s vocals ONE LINE AT A TIME. And he did this FOUR times. And then found each of the best lines and sequenced them together. This illustrates how Vince Neil has almost zero vocal skills without the smoke and mirrors. And why he was always so terrible live.
Mick's a little older but the primary issue is the degenerative bone disorder he's battled for forever. He was absolutely the most talented musician in that group. Also, WTF wants to watch Neil waddle and wheeze around? He hasn't been decent in years
since when was johnny depp "cancelled"... hes the opposite of cancelled he demonstrated that his wife was the abuser, to the extent that he was abusive it was completely dwarfed by his wife, who both physically and verbally abused him... Johnny Depp yelled at her thats about it
Some of you really don't know what "cancel culture" is. Depp was bounced from projects just for a false accusation, just because He actually fought to clear his name doesn't mean He was never cancelled.
I think that was his point was that it was an attempted cancelling seeing as Disney dropped him and lots of people initially kneejerk sided with herd and tried wrappung him up in the "ME too" stuff til i think everyone realized juat how much of a train wreck she really was.
Fun fact: Skinny Puppy actually was doing all of that live. They had several sequencers, a Fairlight CMI, and a Macintosh Portable running proprietary software on stage.
Same. I'm 53 years old, moved to Hollywood at age 20, did the whole scene thing. Loved all these bands. Bands were best when they struggled! Cheers from East Los Angeles. 🎸🎶
They're running around with a false sense of self importance and a total lack of awareness on how they are perceived by the majority of people. Narcissistic people do this and it seems there are at least 3 in the band. I used to like them, back in 1983. I began my disdain for them, back in 1985 and I regard them as the laughing stock of the 80s L.A. hair bands. There are literally zero redeeming qualities, unless you consider going to their show as a comedy act. Unintentional comedy, because they're not trying to be funny. They're just clowns.
A friend of mine who loved MC, he read that book thinking he'd be a bigger fan. No. He said he felt like they should have been unalived for some of their transgressions in that book.
People have been trying in vain to Cancel Motley for years, go read the comment sections of any "...all in the name of" vids and you'll see tons of people saying BS like "ZOMG!!!! They should be jailed for admitting to being attracted to 15 yo girls!!!!"😂 But sure.
I’m 52 & was the biggest Crue-Head in the 80’s, but this great video says everything I’ve felt…. Seeing what frauds they are the older I get. Ratt & Dokken blow these guys out of the water!!
The Dude's nostalgia for Motley is based on listening to a compilation album released in 2005 FFS, He was never going to know how to properly pronounce Hyperbole.
Cancelling, being cancelled is NOTHING. if anything, it HELPS the person. People wanting equality, diversity, cancel themselves. just, look at Velma and other things with certain matters put in. If you DON'T LIKE something, MAKE YOUR OWN! then see it succeed. stop changing known and established things. what does THIS have to do with the Crue? well. STOP.
The practice of "Canceling" has plenty to do with Motley considering tons of people have been openly calling for their "cancelling" for years from things in their book to songs like "...All in the name of" Which is about a 15 yo who faked her age to get into the adult film industry, Then there was the infamous rant Sixx Went on in 97' that got him and Lee arrested, So yeah plenty of attempts have been made.
I completely agree!! I was born in 65 during these bands coming to rise and I never liked Kiss since day one! Motley Crue was a 3 hit wonder band in my eyes as well! Shouting at the devil, smoking in the boy's room, and helter-skelter ( Beatles song) The Grateful Dead was a band I couldn't listen to either!
I'll never understand how this band (& other bands just like them) got so huge and bands like Kings X or Enuff Z'nuff (you know... bands w musical TALENT & actual songwriting abilities!) are still struggling. No justice!! 🙄
You cannot compare Def Leppard to Mötley Crüe please let’s be real. Def Leppard, very professional. They do not lip sync and they sound good and Joe Elliott can still sing where Vince cannot
You nailed it, couldn't have said it better myself. They are so desperate to be relevant that they just had to remind everyone that they should probably be in jail all because they saw Ronnie Radke getting clout and thought that was a good career move. If Crue were to continue, I'd like to see them evolve and grow past their history. They just did the opposite. And yeah, to top it off , the music is just derivative crap.
I was a kid/ teenager in the 80s,, so at 14, when I started getting into rock/ metal I was exposed to Dio, Judas priest, Iron maiden, Queensrche, king 💎 Diamond, . savatage, Europe, TNT, styper, firehouse, whitesnake, Dokken, so I just didn't get into ( motley Crue), I just thought they weren't very good. And obviously, Vince, can't sing. 😢😢😢
There's a good reason why Dokken (who I love), are relegated to clubs, and not just because of their popularity level (basically, it's Don's voice, he needs to retire before things get worse).
Marketing, marketing, marketing. And, a huge single like Home Sweet Home. That’s why MC survived. Having superior musicians (every member of Dokken) isn’t enough.
@@dusty3913 Huge "singles" like Wild side, Girls, Girls, Girls, Dr. Feelgood and even the remix of Home sweet Home were all bigger than anything Dokken ever did. Motley had the songs, Dokken didn't, it's that simple.

Tommy’s personal life-the famous video scandal only contributed to their name recognition and popularity. All style and very little substance. Mars was the only musician in the band.
@@dusty3913 Yes, and NONE of those were as big as any of the songs I mentioned Which was my point. More revisionist history, What's next Dio got a raw deal because of Ronnies resemblance to Rhea Pearlman?
The guy was a hired gun. He wasn't in the trenches with them in so cal scene in the 80s, he joined in like 2010. And when you can't tour properly (the way these bands and their crews make a living) you can't expect them to bend the knee just for you.
I was pretty young in 85" when I got TOP (7 years) but I can ¹00% say that Louder than Hell hooked me so hard it literally changed the course of my life. When I saw them in 98' Vince had already adopted the "every 5th word" style and clearly needed to start eating salad. But Mick? Fuckin killer tone, killer technique and zero mistakes. My conclusion? Motley Crue IS (was) Mick Mars. If the other 3 had any wisdom they'd have pandered to Mick. Long live the man who played the soundtrack to so many of our earlier years, we love you far more than you'll ever know Mr. Mars, grandfather of truly listenable and memorable metal 🤘
You’re not wrong about Mick. I’ll say it, their only good album front to back was Shout who Nikki said at the time was all about the riffs and tone Mick came up with after Too Fast.
Don't forget about how basically EVERY band that opened for them, even back in the day at their peak, completely blew them away in regards to talent, skill, energy, you name it! I'll give Loudness as just one example.
in the mid-70's i remember The Who using backing tracks on their Quadrophenia tour, and rather than try to hide it, they played it up in all their interviews & hype. they were heralded as breaking new ground in live Rock shows & fans loved it. 🤔😄
What's wild is that they don't even need to do this. They could've rested on their laurels. They're a big band. They did it already. Why phone it in as elder rockers when you're not really even able to commit, you lost the mojo... no offense or ageism intended, but they don't likely NEED to keep the act going. Meanwhile, look at The Cure - they're dudes in their 60s yet still arguably one of the tightest and most solid live bands and in some cases sound better now than they ever did, and they're legit. If Robert doesn't wanna do music, he won't. He's genuine for better or worse, and his band still got it, so they can play and play but in the case with Motley Crue and other hair metal acts, why play out if you're not even into it, can't play or sing anymore, lip-syncing... like dudes, y'all could've retired as legends. Nobody expects y'all to rock to the grave.
I like a few songs, but they tried to be celebrities more than musicians. I saw the Tommy Lee Band try and cover for Drowning Pool, after Dave Williams died. at one of the Ozzfests in the 2000s. After desperately begging the crowd to get up out of their seats, Tommy asked the ultimate inferiority question, "How are we doing?". Rob Zombie came on next, and the people were on their feet.
Every Band isn't meant to span multiple generations. Motley Crue's Nadir/Pinnancle whatever you wanna call their Peak were the albums "Theatre of Pain" and "Girls Girls Girls"....then Guns N Roses happened and they made Motley Crue look like posers. they were a Great moment in the 80's , but should have stayed there. if they broke up and stayed broken up. they could've maintained their Myth. ...The older they get, the better they were.
I still think it's funny people believe the whole story they have going with Mick right now. This band has always seen the power in "No such thing as bad publicity" the movie blows them up again(unfortunately) they come back to cash in, then to get their name relevant and drag out their cash grab get into highly publicized "feud" with one of their founding members. Gets people talking(including myself) gets theirs streams up, gets people thinking about them and litening and buying tickets. Come on man. This is all their career is based on. That's all they've ever been, publicity and hype. Marketing. Some decent songs but not much. And speaking from the perspective of a once young and impressionable kid whole idolized them getting wrapped up in the made up lore and couldn't see that they're just built around a bunch of fake stories, I find the group and everyone in it particularly disgusting. They marketed hard partying, drug use, and a misguided way of living and glamorized the hell out of it sending young men's minds to the gutter so they could get a crumb of relevance and a dime. I never took drugs but I certainly went off the rails as a young man who didn't know much about life and how to navigate the waters, and that's not the band's fault. But as an adult who went through the trenchs getting my mind right and finding my answers, I can certainly tell you this world would be a much better place without nobodies like them building this fantasy world around themselves and glamorizing it for the world(some of which might be unguided children) to see.
John 5 is one of the best guitar players out there, but it seems like he just says “yes” to every gig he can, a job is a job. That’s how he can pay for those weird expensive costumes.
It's kinda amazing (and sad) how they have completed ignored the 1994 album for 30 years....best thing any of them ever did and they have never even gotten close to releasing anything as good since then. i know Corabi was only in the band for a couple of years and Vince could never sing any of that stuff but still...shame they couldn't at least do the off show here or there and play some of those songs live.
I do like Motley Crue and the first time I saw them I really enjoyed it. They played all the classics and put on a great show. Then The Dirt came out..a movie I felt was not good, definitely had the wrong director for the job and missed out a lot of stuff I felt should’ve been prioritised over all the dumb stuff. Then I saw them again and the crowd was different. It wasn’t old school rockers with some younger fans it was a bunch of people who obviously were not fans of rock but saw The Dirt and thought “hey it’s that band from that movie on Netflix, maybe they’ll play that one song I know from the movie. Fights broke out in the crowd, they didn’t even give a shit about the support bands..was basically a pop crowd and I hated it. I wouldn’t be surprised if Motley Crue started showing up on festivals that weren’t even rock or metal orientated. Personally I feel a good biopic would be for Dave Mustaine..guess the only thing is his story isn’t exactly over yet Anyways sorry for long comment. Recently found this channel and really dig it.
I remember reading Nikki Sixx saying he despised Kate Bush and her music. I would’ve loved to see his reaction knowing she’s in the Rock Hall and he will never be.
@@VirgilFisher-y8q That's what every band says that isn't in the Rock n Roll hall of fame lol. Out of all the bands that say that, I honestly believe that only a small percentage of those bands would turn down the induction if they were voted in. Motley Crew would absolutely not be one of those bands. It would add to their hype (which is the most important thing to that band above all else), so of course they would instantly jump at the opportunity.
Yea their washed up now and the new music is unbearable. But you got a lot of the facts wrong on them like example, yes mars was pushed out but it was also because he was retiring from touring because of his health. He wanted to stay in the band to help record songs and … and he’d play locally and didn’t mind them hiring someone else instead for when they went on tours. Fucked up on how they kicked em either way but at least get the facts straight .
I’m a little biased being a guitar player, but for me, Motley Crue is all about mick mars. Vince has a distinctive voice and I’ll give him that as being a crucial part of it. But those riffs by mars are what carried this band imo.
Like him or not Sixx is what carried Motley, He wrote 90% of the music and 99% of the lyrics, Micks Solo album finally came out and every song on that even sounded like throw aways from a Sixx AM album.
I unfortunately saw them in the fair well tour in Tampa and it was rough. Mick was literally stuck in the same pose for 1:45 hours and Vince sounded like someone was kicking him in the nuts behind the curtain.
I'm 50... I remember when if you didn't have long hair and try to emulate these guys, you didn't get laid. I find it hilarious that girls in their late teens and 20's see this style as creepy and disturbing now. I recently went to a Warrant concert, the "men" in the crowd were all mostly wearing wigs and hair extensions... they're in their 60's playing this part, it was really sad.
I never liked this band aside from the Corabi album. This band is on a list that I like to call “chronically touring” as they are one of those washed up bands who don’t know when to stop even though they don’t have the ability to play live and resort to blatantly faking it. I just wish John 5 was in a better band.
When I was an angry teen in the 80s and heard the Peace Sells album, it changed my life forever, I finally found something that sounded like I felt, though I was listening tho Metallica first, Megadeth just resonated with me to my bones
I've always like the old crue albums and always will, they weren't phonies they just were not a good live band in big venues. They are a small venue band that had great energy in their first two albums before they became commercial,a lot of bands become "commercial". Heavy Metal was a catch phrase back then and Crue was actually more hard rock(like most supposed metal bands actually are). By the way Gn'R was just as bad or worse in large venues. I saw them in Orlando with Faith No More and Metallic and Gn"R was straight trash live in a big venue. Generally bands with constant rifts like Metallica and the guitar metal bands of that era are better in big venues because it's easier to maintain that sound consistency and just let the noise do the work for you. On the other hand hard rock music sounds really good in "big bar" type venues.
It changes with different interviews,,, unless he's reading it from the book.. I saw 👀 him on a TV interview and he was busted! He was scrambling to make the stupid story make sense, 🙄 when asked a specific question about shooting up in Denny's..
Nikki Sixx didn’t carry a diary around while he was strung out. He actually just scribbled on random pieces of paper and yes, a lot of addicts do this.
Old Man Storytime: (And by "Old" I mean I spent my teenage years in the 1980s) My first concert was KISS in '78, my dad and I hated them but his girlfriend loved them, my dad was into classic metal and NWOBHM and it rubbed off on me, I was into thrash, death, power. speed and anything metal, I never liked the glam scene in the 80s but I liked Dokken and Skid Row, GnR's first album was groundbreaking with the perfect amount of cowbell. My girlfriend throughout most of high school, I married her after graduation, loved hair bands so I had to take her to see Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Poison etc. a few times, yet she never wanted to go to thrash metal shows with me except Metallica/Metal Church on Halloween in Vancouver 1986. What makes me hate Nikki Sixx as much as I hate Gene Simmons is that I wanted to name our son Nicko after Iron Maiden's drummer and a huge influence on me as a drummer, she filled out the birth certificate paperwork while I wasn't there and named him Nikki, my son hated it, called it a stripper name, changed it when he turned 18 to Billy Marks, he's a rapper, has a YT channel.

In Slash and Duff's defence, those songs they recently came out with were mostly touched up demos from the Chinese Democracy sessions when G'n'R was just Axl Rose w/ backing band, apart from Hard Skool and Shadow of Your Love which are pre-Appetite. Yeah. Unpopular opinion: My favorite era of Motley Crue is in the early 90s when John Corabi replaced Vince Neil as the frontman in the band. Much better vocal work!
agree 100%
Same I like that they were trying to evolve their sound John Corabi is a way better vocalist than Vince Neil honestly I hate it when Vince Neil was brought back in the late '90s to be the vocalist of the band again i because he ended up making the band revert back to the same things that they were doing back in the '80s And that was the very problem with Vince Neil he wouldn't get with the times or even try to evolve which he ended up becoming a product of his own time You don't change you get left behind That's exactly what happened to Vince.

There’s definitely a difference between backing tracks and samples. One replaces musicians entirely, and they other enhances the performance
Yes, it's almost a necessity for bands with one guitarist, as the bass just isn't enough during solos. Rush had Geddy triggering his own from time to time, usually keyboard chords when he's playing the bass, keyboards he himself played in the studio.

In the late 80s there was Gn'R, Metallica, Megadeth & GWAR. I always saw Motley Crue as phonies.
When I was an angry teen in the 80s and heard the Peace Sells album, it changed my life forever, I finally found something that sounded like I felt, though I was listening tho Metallica first, Megadeth just resonated with me to my bones
And 100 other superior bands.

Motley, sucks now. But really they were good in the 80s. Us festival.
Nikki Sixx didn’t carry a diary around while he was strung out. He actually just scribbled on random pieces of paper and yes, a lot of addicts do this.
My sincere reaction was just... "Aren't you guys in your seventies?"
John 5 is Johnny Dep the actor. Probably fakes all his playing also. He is a phony. And "Cancelled" sounds like a pop country song. WTF
Quite the story at the end lol
@@nobody5228 Our Grade 12 grad dance was held on the same night as a Bon Jovi/Def Leppard concert, June 23rd 1988. Needless to say not many grads showed up and the next day, last day of school during the diploma handouts most of us were hungover or hadn't slept all night. Funny thing was that the grad dance had a Bon Jovi/Def Leppard cover band.
@@ll7868 A rapper. And he's worried about a fag name? I'd disown him if I were you. I would disown a kid for that. Fukcing wiggers.
It's over...
Yeah right, OMG WHY does this keep happening ?
Mick is a classy gentleman.
Nikki sixx used to be able write Catchy hits atleast. These songs are terrible. Same with g n r it’s like they just can’t write a song anymore
In Slash and Duff's defence, those songs they recently came out with were mostly touched up demos from the Chinese Democracy sessions when G'n'R was just Axl Rose w/ backing band, apart from Hard Skool and Shadow of Your Love which are pre-Appetite.
At this point I've got no hope for a properly new G'n'R album though.
I’m sorry but the repeated misuse of whom is annoying me
