Planpraz is a plateau located at an altitude of around 2,000 m on a flat area of ​​the Aiguilles Rouges which constitute the western slope of the Chamonix valley facing Mont-Blanc.
The view from Planpraz is as fantastic as it is panoramic! In the front, the entire Mont-Blanc chain, in the behind, the Aravis chain, the Carlaveyron nature reserve and its vast virgin territory, the Fiz chain, then the Buet, nicknamed the Ladies' Mont-Blanc. Planpraz offers some of the most beautiful restaurants with terraces in the world!
This plateau is linked to Chamonix via a gondola. It was originally a cable car, carried by concrete pylons, and opened in the 1920s. It was converted into a gondola in 1979, retaining the original pylons.
The installation was completely renewed in 2008: the Chamonix-Planpraz section was reopened on December 20, 2008. A second section, still equipped with a cable car, connects Planpraz to the summit of Brévent and constitutes the Brévent cable car.

Hi, thanks for visiting! You should expect some melting snow during the month of May, as some lifts are usually closed during May and non Winter season for this particular lift starts in June. Please check summer Hiking Trails and Trekking Guides section on Chamonix website for more information.
