The PC version runs at a very odd framerate: something like 62.455fps. I don't know if the fan patched version fixed this, but both the DOS (in DOSBox) and Windows versions are kind of stuttery because of this without taking extreme measures.
I think the N64 version would be the one to play in 2024. It’s easy to emulate. With zero load times and solid gameplay. Fine. The other versions have extra characters but, it’s a trade off.

Windows is easily the superior version here as it's load times are barely noticeable and its the only version of this game I will play. pain in the ass to setup though.

saturn can do half transparencies on background layer without any problem, the true is that probe software wasn't skilled enough to use that capability.
Black Popeye I like the 64 version because of the 3 vs 3 and more of Shao Kahn's lost treasures and no load times but I prefer the PS1, Saturn, and PC versions because of the character selection and better graphics.
I have Trilogy on both N64 and PS1. And I'd rather play on the N64. Yes, it may not have all the characters, but so what? The music isn't cd quality. But I'm not playing the music, I'm I'm fighting. Plus I've always had my N64 hooked up to a nice stereo system so back then I never noticed. The game just plays better on the N64. That's why in MK Trilogy tournaments a lot of people prefer the N64 version. It may not have all the bells and whistles as the PS1. But the N64 still plays better that the PS1. More isn't always better. The only time I play my PS1 copy is to remind myself on how bad it plays.
Saturn. PC has slighty better palette and better HUD interface due to сommon transparency problems on Sega. But Saturn has better looking arenas (2:40, 5:25, 11:20, there are messed up colours on PC) with additional animations on background (look at water 5:25). Also that checkerboard pixelated shadows on Saturn gives some positive effects: Sega hasn't shadow layering problem like on PC (look carefully at shadows on PC).

And the messed up colors must be because of some incompatibility when running the game, which was designed for older versions of Windows (although I believe several fanpatches have been done to fix all the possible problems). It shouldn't look like that for sure and my version doesn't look like that in fact.
I love the fan patch that basically uses the Saturn/Playstation disc to install the PC version. Fixes a lot of the graphical issues (e.g. same sprites being used). Sadly, it doesn't fix the missing color-cycling on the Dead Pool's reflections.
The Windows port destroys the Saturn port and is superior in every way possible. You must enjoy horrific loading times and constant pausing and loading of all of the finishing moves during gameplay, something that this poor comparison video fails to show. Playing as Shang Tsung is an absolute nightmare on the Saturn and PlayStation ports of the game.
Both look too identical outside pf the cor issue on pc but read its hardware compatibility issues. I dont think the pc version was meant to utilize the hardware it looks to be a straight port with the settings of the graphics on ur card making the difference. Also note. 680x480 crt using a vga graphics port vs a 525x525 tv using either s-video or composite video will be a big difference. As i was saying bout the n64 version of MK4. I went back and looked at MK3 Ultimate on the Saturn and characters had proper shadows, and some nice transparency effects. I don't know what the hell happened during this port but the Saturn had more to give than the developers put out.

Those comments about transparency in the HUDs are almost Idiotic. First I think I am missing something cause each time the characters jumped on the saturn version you can see them trough the Lifebars in red sectors (transparency) , and cant see them in the Blue sectors (no transparency) But the same is happening in The PC versión! Just Pause the game and check by yourselves. BUT IN THE END why someone would care about it!? This is a Fighting game. In all my years playing and mastering Fighting games and even other genres, I Never heard someone saying something like ! HEY DUDE This Fighting game sucks becuase, even than it has perfect gameplay, the HUD dont have transparency!! :S Complaining about the Hud transparency sound like someone repeating someone else arguments whitout thinking a little about it.
people complaing because the HUD looks hugly with dithered transparency on the edges. it looks much better on UMK3 for Saturn. in fact, if all shadows were the same as UMK3 it would be better. People would only have to deal with them when using the agressor bar.

Not sure why they made the whole energy bar on Saturn a dither. They could have made it the exact same as the Playstation. Saturn can do transparencies, something like the energy bar wouldn't be overlapping anything either so it wouldn't cover it.
Probably due to hardware compatibility. You have to jump through hoops to get the thing working on anything newer than Windows 98, and there are patches to fix things the incompatibility causes, and to actually make it work on newer PC's.

Although some things are better on PC, I definitely prefer the Sega version... because the scenarios and everything are correct, also the loading times are not as long, and it is best to play it with the Saturn controller.

Prefer PC. No dithering and while I don't like the bottom of the screen cropped, the characters don't sit as high on the horizontal plane. Something that annoys me with the disc console versions of the game.
I have this game for the Play Station and enjoy playing that port. I have played the N64 version but that was long ago. The Sega Saturn version wins this comparison in my opinion.
I love these videos but, PROTIP: If you're going to compare MK games, you *have* to include stage fatalities and fatalities in general. People don't play MK for the mechanics (we have SF for mechanics); we want to see how the stage fatalities match up, and then the normal fatalities. Learn from Nintendo's mistakes, I implore you.

The PC has quite a few small additional details in the backgrounds and smoother color gradients. HOWEVER, the PC has some really awful color selection and inaccurate changes to the color of the sky; the Pit II and Courtyard are just two examples of this. They look absolutely horrendous and I would take the Saturn without a doubt due to these alone.
These are happening due to the PC compatibility issues, running on much much different hardware than intended, if running on proper hardware or proper options enabled, these do not happen

Don't flash your copy of Saturn MK Trilogy on the streets of a third world country because the game is rare and runs for a steep price. Somebody might shank you to get the game.
The PC version is the only version to say round one, round two, round 3, PS1 and Saturn versions don't have it for some crazy reason. Saturn version is also incredibly pricey these days, again for unknown reasons.
I used to love MK, but that love has faded with time, I became more a KoF, Samurai Shodown, World Heroes, Darkstalkers, and SF Alpha fan with time. However, every blue moon I'll fire up an MK, can't be newer than 4 though (I don't like the later efforts all that much). 4 is alright if taken in small amounts, just don't overdo it.

For PS1, The load time in Shang Tsung morphs basically kills what would otherwise be the best version of the game.

All conversion of MK on PC, begins with MK1 and all the others, are the best on PC. Very close to arcade ever.
I used to have the PS1 version but noticed the Saturn was Sharper looking and has a smoother frame rate.
If anything, the loading time is a hint shorter and the "sound quality is very sharp" = They just filtered the sound, just like the PC version.
Overall developer Point Of View Inc (Spawn Armageddon, Blitz The League) did a great job on both the Saturn & PC versions.

They could have used the 4mb ram card in the Saturn to ditch the loading times completely, just like Capcom did on some of their fighting games.

Don't flash your copy of Saturn MK Trilogy on the streets of a third world country because the game is rare and runs for a steep price. Somebody might shank you to get the game.

Pc version is better. Smoother graphics and no loading.
PC have better sounds and have no loadings, but have cutted and bugging backgrounds.

Eu prefiro o n64 e ps1.
The PC version is the only version to say round one, round two, round 3, PS1 and Saturn versions don't have it for some crazy reason. Saturn version is also incredibly pricey these days, again for unknown reasons.
I used to love MK, but that love has faded with time, I became more a KoF, Samurai Shodown, World Heroes, Darkstalkers, and SF Alpha fan with time. However, every blue moon I'll fire up an MK, can't be newer than 4 though (I don't like the later efforts all that much). 4 is alright if taken in small amounts, just don't overdo it.

why are the backgrounds all messed up?
PC background color issues are due to graphics set at "2X". Set them at "Full Screen" or "Optimal Size" to fix them.

Prefiero la versión de N64, solo falla en el sonido, pero no tiene tiempos de carga, al parecer las versiones PS1, Saturn y PC son iguales
Arturo Macías jajaj n64 es una reverenda cagada por el simple hecho de sacar varios personajes y por ser una versión taaan limitada... ninguna consola de la época tuvo el equilibrio que tuvieron los arcade... una pena que no hayan hecho uno con este juegazo..
santiago abuelo No entiendo, solo no tuvimos a Sub Zero sin máscara y a Kintaro, el resto son personajes de relleno sin frames de correr (MK2), de lo demás están completos, hasta Scorpion tiene 3 fatalities en N64,

I feel the Sega saturn had the best port. The graphics look better, loading times were quicker than PlayStation I think the Saturn port is the definitive port. The most expensive XD
